I think the variety is good. Let's see which ones sell better.

What we really want to do is remove social pressure that keeps people from wanting to be fat and at the same time socialize health care for fat people.

The Medical Community: "Obesity is the number one killer in the U.S. All the more tragic because it's preventable. We really must do something to educate the public about healthy eating and exercise."

Am I crazy or would mandatory military service go a long way toward teaching healthy eating and exercise?

QUOTE (Alhazad @ Jan. 29 2016,08:30)
QUOTE Am I crazy or would mandatory military service go a long way toward teaching healthy eating and exercise? I don't think those are exclusive. While folks would be in better shape during military age it wouldn't be because of their diet.
I was in the Air Force and played golf with a hangover every Saturday and Sunday morning. Plus, I ordered a lot of pizzas from a pizza joint on base near the BK.
Point being, I was in great shape because I was getting exercise and because I was young, but they weren't really teaching me healthy eating habits.
Meanwhile, a lot of veterans just get chubby because when you're forced to workout a LOT, you tend to slack off once you have that option.
Although, I'm absolutely in favor of mandatory service (not necessarily military), but that's another subject.

1. Institute mandatory federal service (Israel already has this). 2. When needed, beat people into compliance.... with love. And bruises. But there has to be a point to the beat'n. 3. Some people need to experience discipline before they can learn self discipline.

QUOTE QUOTE Although, I'm absolutely in favor of mandatory service (not necessarily military), but that's another subject. Fuck no. Â I'm all for requiring some sort of service to earn the right to vote or something like that, but you have to give people the choice to opt out. Â I personally would want no part of your totalitarian state. Â I put too much value on individualism and personal freedom. It's a tough call. I agree, not everyone needs their heads pulled forcefully out of their asses. Perhaps showing signs of obesity at the age of 20 should be the trigger. "Young and fat? You need help with your life. Welcome to the army. We're gonna make you strong and show you the world."

And if they just refuse to comply? Some people are quite stubborn. Do you send them to jail? Kill 'em?

I could argue all day that you're already required to do things you don't want to do that stifles your individualism and personal freedom.
However, I'm totally on board with a Heinlein do and vote or don't and don't vote situation. I don't think you'll see the Democrats backing anything like that though...
