His summary is not wrong. Â Given the facts at hand it is perfectly valid to look at the case in that light. Â However it's also perfectly valid to claim - given the facts at hand - that Zimmerman was merely defending himself from a crazed lunatic suddenly trying to kill him without provocation. Â Because there are basically almost no facts at hand to really characterize the incident, which is why he was found not guilty. Not because he did nothing wrong, but because it couldn't be proven what he did or did not do since the prosecution had no evidence to speak of. That's the way the system works.
But I don't fault Oliver too much for picking a valid viewpoint and going with it. Â It's his job as a comedian, after all, to make the most humor out of something like this that he can. Â Plus he's a Brit, which means he'll take the pussy anti-gun stance by default.
