QUOTE The notion that children belong to a state government rather than their own flesh and blood is the most disturbing statement made in recent political times. Not even close.
QUOTE He [Glenn Beck] also said there were plenty of people enamored by the MSNBC host’s theory, who would gladly “hand over†parenting responsibilities. Funny, because there are plenty of people whom I'd like to see hand over their parenting responsibilities because they suck at parenting.
QUOTE It is society’s responsibility to ensure that the next generation is equipped to handle the ever-changing world. FUCK. NO.

I think the progressive movement in this country is pushing down harder on the gas pedal. What their inherent shortsightedness doesn't see is the inevitable violent crash.

Off the top of my head, I don't think it even cracks my top ten list. Not that I could recite that list offhand, but I don't think it'll make it.

One has to have compassion and empathy in the first place before one could comprehend how serious aa thing it is when people start talking about how the government should relieve parents of their children.

QUOTE One has to have compassion and empathy in the first place before one could comprehend how serious aa thing it is when people start talking about how the government should relieve parents of their children.
Zing. Since you want to start chucking pebbles...
I didn't watch the clip in question, but I'm betting if a more damning quote existed, it'd be there, so I'll go with this... QUOTE “So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents, or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.†... as the worst thing said.  Is "belong" a particularly dumb (and inaccurate) word to use here?  Yeah, but I don't think she's talking about communal parenting from "A Brave New World."  I also think it's quite a fucking stretch to get there from those words.
Quotes from pissed reactionaries... QUOTE “The notion that children belong to a state government rather than their own flesh and blood is the most disturbing statement made in recent political times. When I saw "community" I didn't think "state government."  Kind of interesting that sprang to this dude's mind.
QUOTE "They don't want to surrender their parental rights to the ‘village.’ It's this same contempt for education beginning in the home that spurs many parents into home-schooling.†I didn't see anything about giving up rights.  And as for home-schooled children, I have yet to meet one that didn't have a huge fucking social deficiency to overcome, that I'm willing to bet wasn't helped but not interacting humans outside their family on a daily basis.
QUOTE Political pundit Glenn Beck condemned the clip during his radio show Monday, calling it an almost “parody of reality so far beyond what we have ever thought as a nation.†I think the same thing about Glenn Beck's crazy ass.
QUOTE “Unfortunately not all of our families have the 'know how' or the resources to do what is best for their children. They need support.†The requirements for having a kid are pretty goddamned low.  John Belushi told his brother to join all the extracurricular clubs in high school that he could.  He said it was because their parents were shitty.  While they were in high school, both of them stayed out of trouble; certainly only shades of the shit they'd do later in life (John's speedball OD and Jim's acting suck OD).
I also see nothing in that quote about how the gov't should be taking children away from their parents. Â I see the notion of people who aren't their parents giving a fuck when they're a counselor or gym teacher or something. Â Because if you do fuck up raising your kid, with or without a fucking village, you aren't likely the kind of parent that's going to prevent him from fucking the surrounding community. Â Then we are raising your kid by paying for his incarceration.

I see where you are coming from, Malcolm, but having just watched the video that's not what she meant. Â But neither did she mean what all the hoopla is accusing her of meaning.
She was specifically and only talking about spending money on schools, saying the reason we don't spend more on schools is because we look at children as the individual responsibility of each family instead of as part of our community, and that if we did the latter perhaps we would collectively invest more in their education. Â That's it, that's all she said. Â No more, no less.
QUOTE And as for home-schooled children, I have yet to meet one that didn't have a huge fucking social deficiency to overcome, that I'm willing to bet wasn't helped but not interacting humans outside their family on a daily basis. Felicia Day turned out hot well adjusted.
