Detroit style pizza is pretty good, I LOVE carmelized (burnt?) cheese at the top. The crispy is delicious.   And Buddy's is where I got it.

No.  We had Pizza Papalis.  Buddy's is good too.  Actually, I'd say it's really good.  But, it's extremely, obscenely over priced.  Pizza Papalis is way better, and a bit less expensive.  Buddy's charges more because it's "Buddy's", not because it deserves it.  It would still be a more expensive pizza because it's good enough to be.  But not as expensive as it is.

There is now a Pizza Papalis in Toledo.  By the new stadium down town I believe.  When ordering, keep in mind that their pizzas feed twice as many people as a normal pizza.  If you and 3 other people normally split two medium pizzas, one medium Papalis pizza will be enough.  It's Chicago style and it's really really thick.  Also justifies the high price.  You are getting a lot more food in their mediums.  This is the best pizza I've ever had.  Second best would be a place in the Connecticut area.  I don't remember the place, or exactly what I ordered.  But it was amazing.  I would put Gino's pizza above Buddy's, just by a bit.

I never knew that was "detroit style".  We order that Pizza all the time.  It's what I would consider good, cheap pizza.

Pizza Papalis has been downtown for 2 years now.

It's decent, but you've got to get it fresh from the oven. Also, their sauce could be better.

Takes 45 minutes to bake one, so plan for the wait.

At night it turns more into a bar with live bands and whatnot, especially during baseball season. Thus, if you're doing the family thing hit it during the dinner hours to avoid the young adult/obnoxious drunk crowd. (Although, the obnoxious drunks head there after Hens games too.)

It's also not "Detroit style". It's Chicago style. They invented the deep dish pizza, or so I've been led to believe.

Granted, each location might be different, but I don't think their sauce is perfect, nor do I think they put enough on.

It also might be the cooks involved. I've had nights where you cut into and it oozes out sauce and melted cheese, and other nights where it seems like they're rationing for war.

Oh, and it sucks cold. (Although, I think most pizza sucks cold.)

It's DEFINITELY Detroit style.  It's like Sicilian pizza crust, but with sauce on top, and they often double-bake the crust, and usually oil or butter it.

Based on that Wiki, Chicago style is still the best description of Pizza Papalis' pizza. In fact, their tag line is "Authentic Chicago Pizza". Again, according to the Wiki, they make the "stuffed" version of the Chicago style.

Oh, and the picture in that Wiki for Chicago style looks exactly like Pizza Papalis' pies.

Maybe the Toledo store if fucking shit up then.  We've eaten at 4 different stores up here and the pizzas are always exactly the same.  To say there's not enough sauce would imply you like pizza soup.  There's sauce in between the layers of crust as well as sauce on top.  I normally order extra sauce on every other pizza I order, except for Ginos and Papalis.  So, again, if you want even more sauce. . . you are eating soup.

There are only two conclusions.
1. You are insane.
2. Toledo is fuckin' shit up.

And cold pizza is not edible.

Being that I've never seen, or heard about you eating/liking cold pizza, I have no evidence to say that you like it.  So, until further evidence surfaces, I'll say that you don't like it.

Like I said, we've had a couple that were oozing sauce and cheese, but more often than not, it isn't.

So I'm more than willing to concede it's a quality control issue.

But yeah, they still need to improve that sauce.
