All that fireworks-watching, flag-waving and potato salad-eating this weekend could in fact lead to a vote for the Republican party for your child.

I guess patriotism is something liberals hate?  You don't say.  Nice that they admit it, if even in a roundabout way.

When children were exposed at a young age to the Americana fanfare associated with the Fourth of July, they were more likely to vote Republican and make campaign contributions to the party.

And the stats from Harvard back up the claim.

Well, there's your first problem.  The study was done as an excuse by bored, overpaid, probably incompetent fucktards looking for more grant money.

QUOTE
Harvard researchers David Yanagizawa-Drott and Andreas Madestam found that kids who attended one rain-free July 4th celebration before the age of 18 were four percent more likely to vote Republican before the age of 40. And whether or not they went to the polls, young Independence Day revelers were more likely to identify with the right wing by 2 percent.

Rain-free?  Are they equating fireworks with brain-washing or mass hypnosis or something?  Maybe that's how the Chinese have been doing it all these years.  By the by, the folks are both labeled "Assistant Professors" (read as "need to earn more research money to earn tenure") and the second is from some university in Italy I've never heard of.

QUOTE
The Republican Party is known to be more patriotic ... according to the study.

Did Harvard just call the Democrats less patriotic than the Republicans?

QUOTE
The study notes, "Republican adults celebrations Fourth of July more intensively in the first place.

Because they're more likely to live in areas where "intensive celebrations", i.e. big, explosive, fun-to-watch fireworks, are allowed?

What kind of conclusion are they trying to make?  Seems obvious to me that all they discovered is that Republican parents are more likely to take their kids to 4th of July celebrations, and that having Republican parents makes you slightly more likely to vote Republican.

No surprises there.

Yeah, I thought the same. Dumbest "study" ever.

Yeah, but PEOPLE..... don't take your KIDS to FIREWORKS because that could make them REPUBLICAN and then you have to HATE THEM.

Isn't that the point of the article?
