The mystery begins in a St. Louis field on June 30, 1999. Ricky McCormick, 41, was found dead there, and his killer hasn't been caught.

That's where you come in. The FBI said two encrypted notes were found in the victim's pants, and their code crackers haven't been able to figure out what the notes mean.

Any particular reason why they've waited a decade plus?

They purposely hold back details and clues from the general public in unsolved cases for a lot of reasons that revolve around helping to identify/prosecute the criminal, identify witnesses, and weed out nut jobs.

Why they're coming out with this info now? Maybe they have no other choice? Perhaps they're at a dead end and grasping for straws? Maybe it's a ploy to get him to expose himself? I fully expect anyone who helps them crack the code will be investigated as a suspect.
