I thought we already had this with a gasoline tax, but I guess the government keeps pushing these fuel efficient vehicles or something.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) this week released a report that said taxing people based on how many miles they drive is a possible option for raising new revenues and that these taxes could be used to offset the costs of highway maintenance at a time when federal funds are short.

They are, here.  My uncle flew one for years and would land it on any old strip of grass.

And it gives you an excuse to fuck around with an internal combustion engine.  What more do you want?

I even remember a long time ago, he flew me over the local refinery so we could see what those tanks looked like on top.  Pre 9/11, of course.

I drive 80 miles a day.  But hopefully they'll exempt fuel efficient cars or something.

That wouldn't be fair.  Then people who pay more gasoline taxes get double slammed.

Spread the pain, I say.

In fact, people with electric cars don't pay any gasoline tax, yet they still use the roads.  Target them specifically with a road usage tax.

They want to save the roads?  How about public transit that doesn't suck balls?

Ah, but 90% of my commute is on a toll road.  I'm already paying for the privilege of driving on it.  So at a minimum I should be able to deduct the tolls ($120 a month on average).
