Scientists digging into ancient and untouched lake.
Anyone remember how World War Z started?
Since the article is dated, I assume they hit it by now. We just need to sit back and wait for the odd headlines about a new flu epidemic.
And if the Russian lake doesn't give it to us, there are scientists around the world digging into ancient lakes.

The report I heard, about a week ago, was that even though they were very close, there still wasn't going to be enough time to finish this year. They also said that even though the lake hasn't been touched in, however long it's been there, the water was 'changed' every 10 thousand years or so. They explained how, but I don't remember. So, even if the lake has been there for millions of years, the water is relatively new.

The water might be new, but the life and bacteria won't be or shouldn't be...

They implied that it drained and refilled though. They said the real value was the gas bubbles trapped in the ice on the way to the lake. Those are supposed to be old.

The bubbles and the possible life. And again, this is only one of a number of ancient untouched lakes that scientists are planning to dig up.
I just found it interesting...plus, this is how World War Z started.

Yeah, that lake has been leaking all that time. I can't find it now, but in the past online there have been pictures of red water trickling down a glacier in Anarctica that were labeled as being from upwellings from the iron-rich lake buried under the ice down there. So any life that's down there has been splashing around on the surface from time to time all along. No worries.

I don't think anyone is actually worried that a zombie apocalypse is going to start just because it's how one started in World War Z. Although, it'd make Max Brooks some sort or prophet.
As for the red water, I seem to remember pictures from last year in Alaska that showed something like that.
