He's on the right.
His family lives directly across the street from me.
It's actually shocking to my wife and I. Their family has been nothing but nice. No parties. No cops. No trouble at all.
This kid, in particular, helped my wife and kids chase down our dog last week when he ran after a rabbit.
His brother just moved out with his girlfriend (super cute blonde) and has his life together. The dad is a really nice guy, but is a divorcee who's out of town a lot. I hope the kid doesn't get life. You can tell in that photo he's regretting the choices he's made.

Scariest part is how someone can pass themselves off as normal and yet be capable and willing to commit an armed home invasion. Good thing you didn't have anything he wanted.

Yeah, this isn't someone getting into a little trouble. My stepson from my first marriage did something like that. He had developed a meth problem after his mother and I split up. I was quite shocked to find he'd reached the point where he could stick a loaded gun in someone's face. There was a line there that went way beyond what I'd ever imagined.

QUOTE "Their intention was to steal marijuana, although this marijuana was legal under Michigan law,” says Roehrig HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.  Theory: they owed someone money and needed cash, maybe figured they could sell the bud.  No stoner is going to the trouble of armed B&E for his next toke. You realize how much effort that takes? Meth, on the flip side, gives you all kinds of nervous energy that has to get burned off.

Considering the elaborate ruse of dressing up as cops and hitting a trailer park, I am guessing this is the suburban-kid equivalent of looking up "money laundering" in the dictionary. They figured "elaborate disguise" and "no one will recognize us there so it's foolproof."

I blame our piss poor education system and "everyone gets a trophy" culture. They thought they were masterminds.

Talked to another neighbor last night who coached and taught these kids. He says Alex is a follower and a touch slow. He believes Alex has no idea what he was getting into nor the ramifications.
The "brains" behind the crime was most likely the Isaiah kid (he's white you racists). The other kid, Eric, in the photo also lives in my neighborhood and is singing like a canary to the cops.
Everyone in the neighborhood is shocked, and oddly nobody would be in fear if Alex were released tomorrow.
I hope they don't crucify the kid. Some of those crimes have mandatory sentences, but in his case, he'd benefit more from probation and supervision than jail time.

Why did you say Isaiah/he's white? Are they usually not?

QUOTE Why did you say Isaiah/he's white? Â Are they usually not? The NBA is filled with Isaiahs and they're all black. It's surprised folks I've talked to about this that he's white.
QUOTE punishing criminals appropriate to their crimes
Listen, home invasion, armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, impersonating a police officer, kidnapping, etc. are all pretty big crimes and should come with harsh punishments.
However, certain factors should be put into place to protect criminals who can be reformed versus those that can't.
The mandatory punishments were put in place because of bleeding heart judges who would let everyone off lightly.
This part of the legal system needs revamping. Punishments should be harsh for some and not as harsh for others based on record, age, what's going on in their life, mental ability, etc.
It needs to allow for the stupidity of youth, while protecting society from career criminals.

QUOTE I thought Isaiah was a traditional Jewish name? His last name is Tucker...
QUOTE I'm not sure why they tried that instead of replacing the judges. Probably because doing one makes you look "tough on crime" and other such bullshit while the other makes you look correct and boring.
Or it could be because most judges are elected or appointed for life and the next judge might also be a pussy and to make sentences more consistent they put in mandatory sentences?

Consistently bad is not necessarily an improvement.
I think the main problem with their thinking is that they want to deal in absolutes. Criminals are by definition evil in their world, and evil people should be treated a certain way with no flexibility needed in the justice system to make it work. No person who is not inherently evil could possibly be in a situation where the mandatory minimums would be applied to them.
Personally I think that's probably a side-effect of some not-very-bright people turning to an outside source for their moral compass - in this case specifically evangelical Christianity - and accepting a black-and-white view of the world when the world is clearly almost entirely made up of different shades of grey. And then encoding that punishing simplicity into their reactionary laws.

Major MMS (mandatory minimum sentence) laws were passed in the '50, '80s, and '90s. QUOTE Under the Controlled Substances Act, prosecutors have great power to influence a defendant's sentence and thereby create incentives to accept a plea agreement. In other words, they get to threaten you with far, far more consequences than any sane, just person would ever consider so they have leverage over you when it comes time to make you rat on your associates. Â Then there are these retarded state laws which serve to fatten the wallets of the private penal industry and the corrupt US officials they get kickbacks from. Â MMS laws are another way to excuse the judiciary from thinking, because it's obviously too difficult for their tiny, underdeveloped brains to pull off.
Examples of what happens when people don't think: QUOTE Weldon Angelos – 55 years for possessing a handgun while he sold $350 worth of marijuana to a police informant on three separate occasions
Leandro Andrade – 50 years without parole for theft of nine video tapes
Morton Berger – 200 years without probation, parole or pardon for twenty counts of sexual exploitation of a minor; each count represented a separate child pornography image he had possessed   Genarlow Wilson – 10 years for aggravated child molestation; released in 2007 after serving four years because the courts decided his sentence was disproportionate to the actual facts of the crime   Chantal McCorkle – 24 years for fraud and conspiracy to commit fraud; sentence subsequently reduced to 18 years on appeal   Richard Paey – 25 years for 15 counts of drug trafficking and other charges including fraud; granted a pardon in 2007 after serving three and a half years due to the circumstances of his drug use   Timothy L. Tyler - Life in prison for possessing 13 sheets of LSD.
200 years for pictures of kiddie porn? Life for LSD?
