Every night my family goes for a walk after dinner. It's quality time, we're promoting a healthy lifestyle, getting the dog to shit somewhere other than our yard (yes, we carry baggies), etc.
Anyway, there's a house in the neighborhood that has completely captured my imagination.
It's in a cul-de-sac right behind our house. Despite a perfectly manicured lawn, I've never seen anyone there. No cars leaving. No cars arriving. No people mowing or working outside. Nothing.
The only signs of life I've seen was a large package dropped off by FedEx or UPS that was gone the next day.
The yard itself is pretty big, and no real trees or large bushes that would obscure the view from any of the windows. The blinds are ALWAYS closed.
Finally, the only decoration or personal touch on this house happens to be on the mailbox. It's an American flag.
I've enjoyed annoying my wife with theories of witnesses needing protection or spies using it as a safe house. (They DO exist, so why not there?) Maybe it's like that farm house in War Games...
So if I disappear or meet with an accident after posting this, you'll know what's up.

Are the lights ever on at night?

I don't remember any. I haven't walked by much at night.

A normal person wouldn't look twice at this house, and being in a cul-de-sac in a "not too large" subdivision that's not out of the way, but not on major roads either...
I've seen too many movies.

Meth lab.
One can usually go to their county's web page and look up parcel ownership. If it is owned by a utility, it will say so.

It's a one story ranch, and the layout makes perfect sense. The house in the article Catt posted looks "off". Plus, I walk along the sidewalk not 20 yards from the door and don't hear a thing.
Meth lab could be a possibility, but they don't stick around long. We've been here 3 or 4 years now and no incidents. Plus, the lawn is so damn perfect and I don't see a drug dealer putting a lot of resources into a house in a nicer area of town that is one spark from exploding or one phone call away from being discovered after a smell or shady characters disturb the neighbors.
I like how the criminal underground theory opens up other possibilities, but I'm sticking with government operation because of the lawn and because nothing on their property blocks sight lines.
Spy house or WPP temp safe house. Oh, maybe it's a local Congressperson's love shack!

Put a hidden cam on your oldest daughter and send her to the door for some spurious reason. It isn't like you don't have 2 to spare.

That's true, but she's the one most likely to be "Hollywood kid". I'll send the youngest.
We walked by this evening. Still light out so no lights, but the garbage was by the curb. No extra items sitting around it. Not full enough to be peeking the lid up. Hell, the damn thing was pristine.

Crazy old OCD man?
Perhaps the kitchen refuse is triple packed in a brown paper sack stapled shut?
