From what I can tell ...
1) Go to law school, learn how to be a bastard lawyer & simultaneously learn blackmail material about your fellow students -- future lawyers & politicians.
2) Get insane, crazy rich & then attempt to run on your own merit.

I recommend this book. It's pretty good. It's geared towards local office, but it's really just a matter of scale. Although it doesn't cover some things like media buys that you'll need to do running for higher offices, but for that you can graduate to consultants. This is a good starting point.

Unk, if anyone points out your lack of a law degree, ask them how their law degree prepares them to be a leader. How it prepares them to deal with city, state, federal budgets. Etc.
Ask them if a law degree is so important to knowing how to run this country, then how come there are a few hundred lawyers in Washington D.C. who are doing everything but running this country well.
There is no requirement for a college degree to become the president.
You don't need a degree, but you do have to know how to play the game. They're going to be better funded, prepared, and have a lot more allies.
I recommend starting off on a small scale and working your way up by building a name for yourself. If you have a target you want to attack now, like Marcy Kaptur, then just find some powerful friends who wouldn't mind seeing her get taken down a notch. At that point, they can afford to get you in front of reporters and cameras.

I'm not putting you down. I appreciate all the advice but.... Everyone seems to say because I didn't go to college(Law School) I cant run for higher office. Thanks God G. Washington didn't listen. This is just really disheartening to me.
I hope I didn't sound like I was discouraging you, I certainly didn't mean to. That book really is about how to do it, start to finish. And hiring some consultants wasn't meant to be a dig, either, as it's not just about expertise. It's about time. Running for a federal office requires a team of people in part because there's so much that has to be done that there's no way one person, or even one person with the help of some friends and family, can pull it off.

Reading my first post again, perhaps it was the word "graduate" that causes you concern. Â I didn't mean it in terms of higher education, but rather in terms of it's original meaning of moving to the next level. Â Get started on your own, and then when it's time to step it up is when you'd look for more help. Â

You can't avoid that unless you're independently wealthy and can fund your own campaign.
For example, you know that more than just the Democratic and Republican nominees run for president every four years correct? However, aside from seeing their names on the ballot, do you see the other candidates ever mentioned in the news? Do you see them at the debates?
No, with one exception: Ross Perot and he was independently wealthy.
I'm not trying to discourage anyone either, but you can go fill out the paperwork to run for whatever office, but nobody is going to vote for you, or even listen to you, unless you have the ability to get the word out.
Locally, your family and friends can absolutely do that for you, but if you're running for more than just the mayor of Curtice, you'll need more powerful backers. They don't have to be close personal friends, but you do need to have them in your corner. Thus, you need to make the connections to get those people on your side...thus, you need to know people.
