< Cougar Town & Community >

Community is being put into hiatis, while Cougar Town is being cut on episodes.

The Biggest Loser still gets two hours every week non-stop.

This is why people are turning to HBO, Showtime, AMC, FX, etc. for their scripted shows. Shows there can start of low and build their way up.

By the way, that list now includes Netflix, which is an interesting twist.

Meanwhile, networks are enamored with reality garbage because its cheap to produce. Thus, even shows with good audiences will get cut unless they're massive hits.

And that's the problem with network TV. Not every show can be a huge ratings hit. You cannot win every time slot all the time. If your show has a cult audience, stick with it.

Know what

Dancing with the stars
American Idol
Biggest loser

Have in common?

I've never sen an episode of any of them, and I don't plan to.

Or any show like them.

Just don't care, at all.

Good news:

QUOTE
--Also returning, really, NBC swears, is Community, which was yanked off the mid-season roster. Greenblatt: “When I announced our midseason changes last fall and took Community off the schedule, I failed to explicity say that it would be back. I want to expel any notion that it is just disappearing off the schedule.” Maybe you can stop rocking back and forth in your bed while clutching your Community DVDs and weeping, Greendale fans?

And in a bit of "this may or may not work, but how is it different from Seth MacFarlane Sunday", Fox is going to be creating its own "Adult Swim" for Saturday nights.

WHEN, Mr. Greenblatt... WHEN?!

He probably doesn't know.  The cast certainly hasn't been told.

I wouldn't be shocked if the absolute failure of the NBC fall schedule made them rethink cancelling Community. Again, I'm have no idea if that's the case or not, but it wouldn't shock me.

They should rethink Chuck too. Apparently, it's the last season, but this is a show that's been saved by its fans, and more importantly, a sponsor.

I've liked Chuck, but I think it's indeed time to wrap it up.  It really thrived on the ongoing story, which is starting to be stretched a bit too far.

I think the problem with the networks is they are now in the position that newspapers were about a decade ago.  Streaming and other online alternatives are starting to suck away viewers at a faster rate.  Their response has been to make their content cheaper (i.e. more reality tv) which is just pushing viewers away faster.  Unless they make a major change in how they operate, I give them at most another decade before they start to merge and sell off their assets as best they can.

Something different in this case, though, that the print media doesn't have, is that the bandwidth providers are owned/partnered with the content providers, and they are starting to squeeze the online streaming services.  Netflix and bandwidth caps are my examples.  I think if the content providers are given their way, LEGITIMATE streaming services may be eliminated entirely.

Then we'll all be back on pirate bay.
