No Mel.< http://www.mania.com/56423.html > Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 25 2007,22:32
I hope that not just Mel is gone, but his character. I'd hate to see him recast. Get some new shit, leave the definitive post-apocalyptic trilogy in peace.
Posted by DoctorChaos on Oct. 26 2007,04:41
Mel's out, which means no villain named 'Sugar Tits' and the Jews didn't cause the apocalypse.

(Malcolm @ Oct. 25 2007,22:32) QUOTE I hope that not just Mel is gone, but his character. I'd hate to see him recast. Get some new shit, leave the definitive post-apocalyptic trilogy in peace. The article says that the title character will be recast because Mel Gibson is too old. So there will be someone else playing Max. Posted by TPRJones on Oct. 26 2007,07:20
I guess there'd have to be someone named Max in it to keep using the title. And he'll have to be either crazy or angry, presumably.Still, it seems a shame to recycle this particular character. Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 26 2007,07:33
I could live w\ another, but distinctly different dude that just coincidentally happens to be named Max.I mean, shit, if Lucas remade Star Wars & cast Ashton Kutcher as Han Solo, I'd be pissed. Posted by GORDON on Oct. 27 2009,18:33
It's a go.Maybe Mel. < http://www.abc-for-kids.com/news....ainment > Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 27 2009,21:25
Maybe my ass. If they had him locked in or even significantly interested, they'd be shouting it from the goddamned rooftops.

This looks like a mother fucking Mad Max movie. With a whole lot more insanity. Posted by Troy on Jul. 28 2014,07:28
Bane is Mad Max?Also, trailer looked solid enough, for a trailer. Posted by GORDON on Jul. 28 2014,08:01
I liked the Road Warrior callback... when a car rolls/gets smashed up, a million little pieces that were glued on go flying.
Posted by Leisher on Jul. 28 2014,17:25
Was that Mad Max tied up for the duration of the trailer?
Posted by GORDON on May 19 2015,11:48
That was a fucking insane movie. It's more Mad Max than Thunderdome. And to address the previous comment, yeah, he's on the "crazy" side of "mad." Definite PTSD issues. Mel Gibson in the first 2 movies may as well have been called Sad Max, compared to this version. Or perhaps Nihilist Max. I feel exhausted... this was a 2 hour movie with 1.5 hours of car chases. Posted by Malcolm on May 19 2015,12:11
This film got killed by Pitch Perfect 2 two weekends in a row.
Posted by GORDON on May 19 2015,12:13
Today's 11:30 was about half full.
Posted by Malcolm on May 19 2015,12:17
Pitch Perfect 2 opened to about $70M, 10% less than Avengers 2 its opening weekend. ~1.5x as much as Max. That's just fucked up.
Posted by GORDON on May 19 2015,12:27
Granted, PP targeted what is probably a bigger demographic who hadn't recently spent their monthly movie money watching Avengers twice.
Posted by GORDON on May 19 2015,12:28
George Miller and Tom hardy are on board for more.< http://www.avclub.com/article....-219589 > Posted by GORDON on May 20 2015,16:54

Oh yeah, people keep harping that this is a "feminist" movie. Personally, I didn't see that. Yes, it has some badass women being badass, but I never felt like I had a message being jammed down my throat, and you know I can be overly sensitive to that kind of shit.

(GORDON @ May 20 2015,22:39) QUOTE Tempted to take him anyway and cover his eyes when appropriate. It was pretty soft for Rated R, imho. I loved it. It was about as much action as you could put in a movie, and still have a movie. I will never watch it again though. And the dialogue was horrible. My wife hated it. Posted by GORDON on May 23 2015,06:29
Maybe slight spoilers follow.I mean, it isn't XXX or anything, but the entire premise of the movie, the warlord trying to retreive his escaped breeding women, is inherently rapey. Plus the scene with the baby brother. Posted by TheCatt on May 23 2015,12:32
Well, yes, it was certainly intense, and thematically adult/dark, but it wasn't graphically violent, or at least not as much as I expected given the rating.

I had to type a bunch of information into a Mac laptop while I was there. Their spread out keys were throwing me off. I said to the guy, "sorry, I'm used to typing on an actual computer."To his credit, he laughed. Posted by Leisher on May 27 2015,11:04
Odd choice by the filmmakers to have the power go out halfway through the movie.
Posted by GORDON on May 27 2015,11:07
That is to build suspense. It's a 4D experience.

Mad Max fans have found edible silver spraypaint on amazon. That being said, I think I have my Halloween costume idea. This could be a little spoilery, I suppose. < http://www.amazon.com/Wilton-....grocery > Posted by Leisher on May 28 2015,09:44
During my viewing the power went out. All the theaters were emptied and passes to return handed out. Most people went home. A few of us stuck around, and when the power was on and stable, they restarted all the theaters back up for those folks who stayed. We even got to keep the passes. Despite the power outage, I enjoyed the film. The thing I loved most was the world they've created. It was beautiful in its ugliness. The style of the cars, people, and the Citadel was awesome in ways the original trilogy never hit. The action was also pretty spectacular. Ditto for the acting, particularly Nox(?), direction, etc. That stuff HAD to be awesome because the story sucked. It's not so much that it was awful. I feel this way because it was like we were dropped into the middle of a story and nobody bothered to explain what was going on. We REALLY need a spoiler thread for me to get farther into this issue. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, was explained about the world these people inhabited. Maybe that's ok? It certainly didn't make me hate the movie, but I do feel like I was robbed of half the film. Like it started in the middle. If you're an action film junkie, see it. Although, I can't imagine any of your significant others wanting to see, much less enjoying this film. I'm not sure if it was mentioned in this thread or on another site all together, but there is some question as to whether or not the guy in this flick is even the original Max.... for all we know he is just some dude who grew up hearing the legends of Mad Max, and put the name on.
Posted by Malcolm on Jan. 12 2016,11:39
The original three only have a loose ordering:1) original 2) Road Warrior ... half a decade or so after 1 3) Beyond Thunderdome ... two decades or more after 1 Fury Road might be between any two. Posted by GORDON on Jan. 12 2016,11:41
Or maybe the Feral Kid grew up and walked the wasteland a while before he returned to take over leadership of the Great Tribe... and along the way he put on Max's name when he saved Furiosa.
