Synopsis:Imagine a low budget found footage film that takes most of Exorcist II: the Heretic and puts in anti-establishment overtones reminiscent of Predator 2, E.T., and Resident Evil. Review: Have I mentioned how much I hate this fucking genre, particularly unoriginal ones ... unless you count "camera with worse DT than Hemingway after a holiday in Saudi Arabia" as an innovation? Anyhow in the mid '60s, the gummint starts funding this one researcher who wants to look into ESP, remote projection, telekinesis, telepathy, i.e. all shit they actually DID look into back in that time period. After having their most promising candidate exposed as a fraud (through the most bullshit scientific explanation possible ... seriously, put a neodymium magnet of the most powerful kind next to your breakfast cereal and see what happens), a new subject wanders into their labs a few years later in '76. She looks like the older, third cousin, twice removed, of Reagan MacNeill. She's equally as possessed in any case. The feds send in some agents to take control after one of the research assistants drops a dime on the lead white-coated nerd. Things go predictably downhill. One of the, I guess, commendable things is how much they try to replicate the godawful fashion and feel of the decade. They even go so far as to make their footage look as if it was shot with shitty video recorders of the time. The part where that comes back to haunt them is when the next millennium's CG effects are introduced into scenes. They look badly out of place and don't fit the look or style at all. Verdict: Very blah. Not the worst idea in the world (I got shades of vibes of Delta Green), but the execution just isn't there. |
