Synopsis:
John Goodman chalks up one more supporting role in a quirky Coen brothers movie.

Review:
A folk singer/guitarist in the early '60s is continually shat upon for approximately 100 minutes.  You're supposed to wonder whether or not he's brought it upon himself by being a loudmouth asshole with a chronic inferiority complex, or if his life just plain sucks.  This is classic Coen material: fucked up characters who swear multiple times at the drop of a hat in a naturalistic plot that takes absurd twists.  Perhaps the most absurd ones aren't even explored, because there's a distinct circular theme going on, as in "circuit of travel."

The soundtrack is on par with O Brother Where Art Thou, and I'm fairly certain some of the same personnel was involved (< yep >).  There's even a song that's a collaboration of his plus the Coen brothers plus JT (who also stars as a folk musician).

Verdict:
Worth a viewing if you've ever liked any non-Lebowski Coen flick.
