Not Depp, please. He has a fairly narrow scope of characters he can play, and Stephen Strange doesn't fall in that scope.

Do you know Doctor Strange's origin story?< Marvel doesn't give a fuck. > Very interesting, but I don't think this will work with every character. Still, if Marvel/Disney was smart they could release an animated origin story a month prior to the movie... Posted by Vince on Aug. 19 2014,08:15
I don't like that approach. Maybe you don't have to have a 2 hour origin story, but I think you need to ease the viewer into that character's world. Especially one like Strange.

Works for me. I don't mind a good origin story, but you certainly don't have to start with it. Save it for the fourth or fifth movie down the line.Out of curiosity, do new comic lines always start with origin stories the way the movies have? Posted by Leisher on Aug. 20 2014,10:07
QUOTE Out of curiosity, do new comic lines always start with origin stories the way the movies have? I want to say not anymore. Wolverine's origin wasn't told until 2001. Nobody knows where the Walking Dead came from, just that Ric Grimes woke up in that hospital. Posted by TPRJones on Aug. 20 2014,10:23
Cool. I like that better. The problem with starting with the origin is then you get maybe one or two movies until the reboot, which always starts with the same tired old origin story again. Meh. Posted by GORDON on Aug. 20 2014,10:49
Hmmm.I think the problem with doing an origin story LATER in the series is that it then becomes a prequel, and don't they always suck? Even if people love the franchise, by that point they KNOW he is going to live, and most of the contrived tension and caring about the character is lost. You KNOW he is going to live/prevail/whatever, so who cares about this particular story. Posted by TPRJones on Aug. 20 2014,10:55
Well the simple solution to that is to not tell a story composed of contrived tension. Hire a good writer instead. ![]() Posted by GORDON on Aug. 20 2014,10:57
Well.... come on. None of us are new to cinema. Good writers know how to build up tension. It's all artificial... there's no inherent danger in sitting in a dark room watching flashy lights on the wall, yet good film makers can get our pulses racing, tears to eyes, etc. WHich is all harder (or impossible) to do in a prequel because we already know where it is going.
Posted by TPRJones on Aug. 20 2014,11:25
Of course you are right. That's why The Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter movies were so unpopular, since everyone already knew what would happen. And Game of Thrones never stood a chance.
Posted by GORDON on Aug. 20 2014,11:38
No, no you are right.... there is nothing more to storytelling than just filming neat stuff. That's why the star wars prequels were so well received.

If only there were a way to tell the origin before you saw the movie...QUOTE Still, if Marvel/Disney was smart they could release an animated origin story a month prior to the movie... Or hell, go get the comic book! Posted by Leisher on Oct. 15 2014,08:01

After everyone in Hollywood has been rumored for the job, < Doctor Strange has finally been cast >.

Not feeling it, but I'll reserve judgment as I've been pleasantly surprised before with some of their choices.
Posted by Leisher on Oct. 28 2014,08:05
I thought Ewan would have been better, but Cumberbatch is a good actor. He has a chance of nailing it.

After that recent vid with Littlefinger creating planets, I heard peeps saying he would be perfect.

I've seen him in one film I think? So the casting is fine with me. Posted by TPRJones on Dec. 08 2014,10:08

Saw that. I'm thinking no. Guess they figured... not sure what they figured.I was excited about the prospect of this movie being made. They are sucking the interest out for me. Posted by Malcolm on May 28 2015,12:00
Doctor Strange is one of those characters who's only cool when you don't have to deal with his bullshit. The prospect of making a movie about him seems better than any movie they could make.

< Thinking I'll pass now. > With all this SJW shit Disney/Marvel's been doing while at the same time (Disney) dumping American workers for H1-B visa workers, I'm thinking I might be done giving them any money.

I'm not into magic when it comes to heroes, so this one has me a bit concerned. Trailer looks interesting.
