Forum: Games Topic: What happens when Valve goes out of business. started by: GORDON Posted by GORDON on Jun. 06 2009,19:49
I know the possibility has been discussed here to some extent, and vehemently discounted as "it could never happen," but here's similar stuff actually happening.< http://www.cepro.com/article....usiness > Posted by WSGrundy on Jun. 06 2009,22:59
This is why I wait so long for game and the year editions and lower prices. With the Orange Box if valve does not deliver on their promise to release patches to make everything playable if they go under I'm still not out that much cash. Pissed but not out that much cash.I didn't play Half Life 2 until the orange box came out and then I wait a year or something for that to hit $25. Same with DLC. Waiting on fallout 3 until all the DLC is in a GOTY package that I can sell later if I want. Posted by Leisher on Jun. 07 2009,11:19
Also, one HUGE thing you're overlooking is that even when you buy the game on disk and in the box, a lot of times you still need to log onto whomever's service to register it. Not always, but that's becoming more and more the standard. Valve has instructions on how to play its games offline. Does EA or any of the other people who are trying to copy the Steam model? I would classify any game with such requirements as falling under the purview of this post and it's point about the problems with this sort of DRM.

I would never have bought the Orange Box except my friend clued me in to a weekend when it was 66% off over Steam, AKA $10.Pretty good, but I'm one of those nuts who prefers having the hard copy of my games, with the original package. Posted by GORDON on Jun. 26 2009,12:59
