Price cuts are always welcome, but it's not quite what hardcore gamers were hoping to hear. Consumers and industry analysts have been calling for a price cut on Sony's flagship Playstation 3 system for months now: the PS3 is the most expensive games machine on the market by a hefty margin. But Sony put a stop to that speculation in a statement today, saying "We do not have plans for a PS3 price drop, and any rumors to that effect are false and are the result of speculation."

I really don't know what's going on over at Sony.

They are still feeling the heady days of winning the high definition movie format war.

The PS3 has picked up steam in Japan which is probably some of the reason they still aren't dropping the price. It has been the best selling console the last two months. Two months is nothing in the lifetime of a console but I'm sure they are holding on to that as a reason.

The PS3 might actually be getting more expensive. Two new versions with bigger hard drives and higher price tags are suppose to come out.
