So Facebook itself isn't really a game, but does have an API and way to integrate apps/games into its platform.I think it makes an interesting way for people to make more casual, web-based games. People are already registered on the site, and when people sign-up it's very easy for them to spread the word of the game to other people. Advertising, etc helps monetize the game. I'm playing a couple of FB games now. If anyone's on FB, friend me and we can take a look. If not on FB, sign-up and friend me. Posted by GORDON on Jul. 23 2008,16:49

10-key?
Posted by GORDON on Jul. 23 2008,18:05
10-key skills.... the keypad to the right of the main keyboard. There are jobs for which a fast 10-key is required.
Posted by TheCatt on Jul. 23 2008,18:11
Huh... never used the keyboard for any of them.

OK, Invite to Might of Many sent. It's a medieval-set game, you fight people (stealing some of their gold), and build an empire by buying lots of land and structures. You basically get XP/gold by doing quests. The first quest is the best rate of return for a long time in the game. If you have FireFox, you can download iMacros add-on for Firefox (for free), and record yourself playing the first mission. Then, edit the macro and add the line "WAIT SECONDS=240" to the end of the macro. (Macro names need ".iim" at the end) Then, set that macro to run on a loop (I did 9999 times), and you'll gain gold and XP every 4 minutes. (You get stamina <which is used by doing things> every 4 minutes). I haven't read up on the game too much, just playing around so far, but that macro's got me to level 8 within a day or so. Note: when buying land, the farm/small manor combo is the most cost effective. For each unit of an item you own, it costs 10% of the base price more than the previous, so buy in sets of 10. If people are taking too much of your gold, stash it in the vault. It taxes you 10%, but you'll lose more otherwise. Spend points on either attack or defense. But the game doesn't seem well balanced. I spent a lot on defense, but still lose almost every time. Posted by TheCatt on Jul. 24 2008,12:04

Isn't this game and Dragon Wars simply interactive advertisements? I mean, half the stuff on my list I can't do because I only have two guild members, plus those who really want to dominate can get free money, points, etc. by doing stuff for advertisers.Just saw Gordon's post and that's another thing that has me perplexed, how does the fighting work exactly? It seems the attackers have a tremendous advantage. And how do some folks have very few losses? Are they simply lucky enough to not get attacked or do they know something we don't? Posted by GORDON on Aug. 04 2008,06:48
I think this game has more cheats in it than UO did on opening day, and not a single one will be fixed.
Posted by GORDON on Aug. 04 2008,06:50
And how did catt get the stealth tag when it tells me we need another person in our guild for that?
Posted by Leisher on Aug. 04 2008,07:01
I assume he has other guild members that we don't have.
Posted by TheCatt on Aug. 04 2008,07:04
Right. Guilds are by individual. I have either 5 or 6 people in mine. The basic way combat works: Each person in your guild equips whatever the best weapons/defenses you have available are. Then, they fight. So, someone with 100 people in their guild, and swords, will basically dominate you. But the only thing you lose by dying is XP, so who cares. The macro will get your XP back. Posted by GORDON on Aug. 04 2008,08:07
I'm thinking about starting up my own second cheater character, so I can cheat in combat, too.And if Catt would share some of his better friends we would only be that much more strong, but I guess he is embarrassed by us. Posted by Leisher on Aug. 04 2008,08:16

I think you have to be Facebook friends to be guild-mates. A flaw I plan to correct in the Pirates game. Check the discussion board, there is a thread of people who want to be in guilds. (You friend them, ask them to join (or vice versa), then unfriend them, and they stay in the guild) I have a 2nd cheater account. It's the account I plan to use to release my games so my primary account doesn't get spammed/bothered by whatever happens. But, I also never attack anyone, so it probably doesnt matter. I bought 100 defense towers to see if that would help. They cost $8k per 40 minutes to maintain, and 900k up front.I lost every battle, still. This game has balance issues, and item issues. For example, you can buy a small Trebuchet for 40k that provides 13 attack/8 defense and costs 600g upkeep. However, you can buy a wood tower and battering rams for 29k that provide 14 attack/7 defense and cost 200g upkeep. So the first is 11k + 400g/40 minutes more expensive, for essentially the same stats. Why would anyone ever buy it? Posted by GORDON on Aug. 04 2008,18:06
I always attack the peeps with the lowest numbers of people in their guild, and see what happens. Pretty much my only rule. I'm not even sure why.
Posted by GORDON on Aug. 04 2008,18:07

You must have a lot of stuff if those are the next best things for you to buy. What does the spreadsheet say?
Posted by Leisher on Aug. 05 2008,05:55
I actually pulled in $38K last night. What should I buy?I've also encountered a bug twice now. A while back I purchased a field. It said I had one. I also some other items along with the field. The next day, the field was gone. I hit that refresh link to no avail. I bought another field a few days later and it never disappeared. Recently, I bought 10 fields at once, so I was showing 11 fields. One day later, I was back to 1. Posted by TheCatt on Aug. 05 2008,07:35
Buy what the spreadsheet (on previous page) tells you to buy.Of course, if it's between a 65 and a 63, and the 63 costs 10x, go ahead and buy the 65... common sense and stuff. small manors tend to be the best RoR early on. Posted by GORDON on Aug. 05 2008,12:22

Nah. I'm friends with the owner, he said he didn't care about macros. I told him I was using macros, and another exploit I found. He only cares if people play and he makes money. Ambush Enemy Convoy seems to be the best mission. I have never been thrown in jail during it. Posted by GORDON on Aug. 09 2008,05:32
I'd say the orcs were a little overpowered.QUOTE Your guild fought with: 6 Mighty Swords, 1 Mighty Axe, 6 Wooden Shields, 6 Leather Armours Protector's guild fought with: 3 Elven Axes, 3 Wood Towers, 3 Basic Shields, 3 Leather Armours You lost the battle, taking 24 damage and dealing 23 damage to your enemy. I have a 6 person guild, that person has 3. I repeated the attack twice more with the same result. Posted by TheCatt on Aug. 09 2008,06:06
Get some battering rams.

Ha, and again...QUOTE 6 minutes ago: Harry Halme has added you to the bounty list for 260,950g. Bounties are open season, anyone can attack you. 5 guys did immediately; the guy that killed me hit me for 59 damage. Posted by GORDON on Aug. 14 2008,09:02
I'm losing interest in the MoM game, because really... it is quite dull. But at present I am still running my macros. And as I gain higher levels, I am being attacked all of the time because of my low guild population (5). I can't see how that will do anything but get worse. Posted by TheCatt on Aug. 14 2008,09:06
There doesnt seem to be any point to the game.

The only thing I'm still interested in at the moment is seeing how much money I can accumulate.

I'm bored too. I've already stopped playing Dragon's Age as it's the exact same game only much, much slower.Someone needs to design a fun game for facebook. To be honest, one of the easiest ways to do it would be to simply go to pogo.com, see what's popular there, and then steal the idea for your own facebook app. A few games on facebook already seem to fit that bill. I'm making 4.3 net every 40 minutes... even after paying for my army, which is now 252 people. on the bright side, i'm winning battles.on the down sides, there's no point to this game. no limited resource for people to complete over. Posted by GORDON on Sep. 02 2008,10:30
I logged in yesterday for the first time in 4 days, and had accumulated 112 million.

Nice. I was up to about 200 mill at some point, but spent it all on more land stuff.

I'm making 500K every 40 minutes and don't have enough guild mates to do shit anymore. It's a really stupid game. Posted by Leisher on Feb. 06 2009,07:21
An old Air Force friend got me playing Mafia Wars and it's miles beyond Might of Many. The interface is really impressive and adds a lot to the game despite the underlying game still being the same as Might of Many and every other game like it on Facebook. On top of that, the developers are adding new things on a daily basis, which is pretty cool. Out of curiosity, I logged into my old Might of Many account and saw that nothing has changed in that program at all. However, in another game I had tried, Dragon Wars, they've added an action game component for certain missions. It's very rudimentary, but what a good idea. |
