I originally bought this game when it was first released, and I was playing it on an Acer Pentium 133mhz, with 8 MB of RAM.  I remember I had to buy a video daughter card before it would run.  And even then, there was a glitch in the game near the end I couldn't finish it.  It was so long ago I don't remember the glitch.  I think some giant boss caused some problem.

Anyway, I was looking at the new Doom trailer and feeling nostalgic, so I opened Steam and saw this for like $1.50.  "Fuck it," I thought to myself.  I've been playing it.

It is delightfully old school.  There's no reloading of weapons, there's no weight limitations so you can carry every weapon you find.  Quick saves/reloads.  Primitive graphics.  Tiny game interface when you crank the resolution up.

I'm having a good time with it.  I wonder if Doom 2 is on Steam.

Wow... after all these years, I've finally seen the end game.

"Medium" difficulty is too easy.  Just save a Quad damage for the end... I only used them on the bosses, anyway.... and I finished the final boss in about 10 seconds of circle strafing.  never took a hit.

And I'd forgotten how much of this game relies on you memorizing maps as you go through them.  Sometimes you have to get a key in one level and then backtrack to the previous level to use it... this means if you are stuck you are not sure if you need to backtrack, or not... and you could go all the way back to the beginning I think.  Most frustrating thing about the game.
