Whoa. I loved those games.

I had Bard's Tale II on the C64. One of the dungeons was broken, it always errored when I put in disk 2 (5.25" floppy disks). I took the game back to Sears (vid game stores didn't exist back then) and told them it was a bad disk and give me another. They didn't have another and just refunded me. The next week I saw the same box back on the shelf stapled shut.DEATH AND DREK. Posted by TheCatt on Jan. 28 2015,14:08
I remember some of the harder puzzles being places that were completely dark, where certain squares randomly teleported you to other places in the maze, occasionally laden with traps.

No. Fucking. Way. WL2 and now BT4.

(GORDON @ Jan. 28 2015,19:54) QUOTE I played the D&D games Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds on my C64 as well. Ah, the SSI Gold Box series. Yeah, sunk time into that, too. At least that had rudimentary mapping functionality built-in. I can't believe the disk swapping and loading times for combat you had to put up with. And fucking everything resulted in combat eventually. There was always one incredibly evil battle at a minimum in each: Pool: fucking Kobold caves and the bullshit graveyard "you can't rest" marathon undead cleansing. Curse: I remember reloading again and again charging into over a dozen dragons. Way early in the game and it was virtually impossible unless you imported twinked and maxed characters (because you could manually jack stats to 18) from Pool. Secret of the Silver Blades: my memory gets fuzzy on this one. Not nearly as much playing time, but I remember beating it without too much trouble. Pools of Darkness: holy fucking fuck. During the last 10% of the game, every battle is epic. Lord of the Rings epic. Except there's only six of you. Not uncommon for each of those fights to take over an hour to get through. $1,319,375. Holy fuck, where'd that momentum come from? Making up for the slow weekend. New stretch goal for $1.5M. 3 new dungeons from what looks like 3 D&D/WotC dudes, one each. Hell of a mark to hit with 2 weeks and change left. Talking $10K and then some per day.

Have you guys received anything yet? I didn't fully understand what I was doing when the Kickstarter hit its goal. Did I have to go there and choose something? I looked at it a couple months ago but it was all weird.

Yeah I dropped like a C note to get some collector box.

(GORDON @ Nov. 30 2015,15:13) QUOTE Yeah I dropped like a C note to get some collector box. You have to create an account on the reward page and get your shit. Posted by GORDON on Nov. 30 2015,15:47
Ok, I logged in and I have 7300 points. Now what.

Typically I would point out how you're old and technology has passed you bye, but their site sucks...On the left hit Rewards. On the next page on the right it lists out your points. There are also buttons for Badge, Keys, Downloads, etc. If you're grabbing the original trilogy, you should be able to get that. If you're looking for the original trilogy remastered...those don't seem to be available? If you earned Wasteland 2 or one of the other games, it should be on your main rewards page. I'm not fucking with the spend points portion as I'm fine with whatever package I signed up for...or is that not how the points work? Posted by GORDON on Nov. 30 2015,16:51

It almost looks like if I don't take some sort of action, they will never send me anything even though I already gave them money. But I don't know. Posted by Malcolm on Nov. 30 2015,18:01

You have to select your rewards through the reward site. No. That's fucking stupid. Something was paid for and agreed upon. He shouldn't have to do all this leg work to get his shit. I'm fine with doing that for the digital download stuff, but for the physical items, that should be handled without any further input from him. I realize what they're actually doing is offering people the opportunity to change up what they signed up for, thus the points, but even that sucks. I want what I was promised. Give it to me or refund my money. There is no option C. And back to the Original Trilogy, the Remastered version is not yet out, so I'll wait until that hits. Posted by Malcolm on Nov. 30 2015,18:47
QUOTE I realize what they're actually doing is offering people the opportunity to change up what they signed up for, thus the points, but even that sucks. Most of the crowd wanted the chance to change up their rewards. It also provides a way for them to centralize all the rewards they pulled together from various places and associate them all with proper email addies. QUOTE And back to the Original Trilogy, the Remastered version is not yet out, so I'll wait until that hits. Bitches. They put out the emulated version based on DosBox. Ok so how do I cash in my 7300 points for the thing I big for? It's already listed in the "Your Rewards" tab, am I done? Also, it looks like "The Bard's Tale classic trilogy (emulated)" has been added to my reward tier for "free." Posted by Malcolm on Nov. 30 2015,18:55
(GORDON @ Nov. 30 2015,20:51) QUOTE Ok so how do I cash in my 7300 points for the thing I big for? It's already listed in the "Your Rewards" tab, am I done? Goto rewards. There could be some waiting for you. You'll probably have points you have to spend at the shop. I think it's 1 for every cent you kickstarted. Posted by GORDON on Nov. 30 2015,18:58
Like I said, I have 0 points unused, and my thing is under "My Rewards," NOT the "Shop" tab. Looks like I am set?AGAIN.......... this shit shouldn't be so ambiguous. I've used shopping carts before. Posted by GORDON on Nov. 30 2015,18:59
And I assume the game isn't written yet, since they just got their funding?

QUOTE Most of the crowd wanted the chance to change up their rewards. I know what they're doing, and it's nice, but at the same time, the system they've setup is anything but logical. It's a mess and not explained well. It doesn't flow naturally. Posted by TPRJones on Dec. 01 2015,07:26
It's okay. Understanding good UI design isn't important when making video games. I'm sure it's not any sort of omen or anything.

The rewards site reeks VERY strongly of "Have the intern do it". So I'm not that concerned. I judge their future Bard's Tale work on what I see of Wasteland 2, and Wasteland 2 has been pretty fun so far. Some odd design choices here and there, but overall a good game. BT4 is getting made in the new, shiny New Orleans, LA, office. Swear to jeebus if they open an office in the Twin Cities, I'm sending off my CV.
