(TheCatt @ Oct. 10 2014,20:14) QUOTE Everyone swallowed up by ArchAge? It was discussed last night in game, and yes. Lots of excitement for BL2, and it'll be a day 1 purchase to support the making of more, but ArcheAge will still be the priority for many. Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 11 2014,10:01

Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 13 2014,07:20
(Leisher @ Oct. 13 2014,08:46) QUOTE < Only a 77? > Wow. That reviewer has his head up his ass or 2K didn't pay them off enough. < Diablo 3 >. A 90. QUOTE But broadly, that’s the extent of what’s new in The Pre-Sequel; there aren’t many other new weapon types or attributes to fill out the armory further. Having spent a hundred-plus hours with the series, everything else feels exceptionally templated. Enemies pour out of spawning points that are helpfully beside explosive barrels and sets of ammunition containers. I was starved for a mission that wasn’t a fetch quest, and though pieces of Elpis are gorgeous, the orbiting space station that you spend about half of the game on is a set of familiar, futuristic city interiors lined with unpopulated facades. Elpis is meant to be the Australia of Borderlands, and it’s a decent frontier, but the game as a whole feels underpopulated. There aren’t many NPCs that you can have meaningful reactions with. ... The Pre-Sequel is a happy to be Just Another Borderlands Game. I enjoyed it for that, but I also finished it thinking my time would’ve been better spent on one of the more original games that’ve released this year. None of that is applicable to D3. Posted by Leisher on Oct. 13 2014,08:33
One thing that does bug me about how reviewers score sequels and how sequels are created is the non-stop drive for more "features". Fuck that. I fell in love with your game because of the game play and story. Give me more of that. Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 13 2014,08:39
Diablo: click and loot.Diablo II: click and loot. Diablo III: click and loot. Somehow that shit's simply groundbreaking time after time. Posted by GORDON on Oct. 13 2014,09:01
The little thing Borderlands did with originality, besides the stylized artwork (which was an afterthought, as it is), is the millions of guns, which wasn't really all that hard to implement. What Borderlands did that was huge was have the best characters and humor of any game, possibly ever. So if the main criticism of the next one is "it's just more of the same," then good. We were all sad when we thought we'd have no more Handsome Jack taunting us, I think. Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 14 2014,08:57
I'll be on tonight. A rare free Tuesday. Concerts Wednesday and Thursday, though, so the weekend's the next available time.

Watched the intro after playing a session with another buddy of mine. The Enforcer, Wilhelm, bears a striking resemblance to the head on Jack's pet robot (the one that massacred the colonists with Helena prior to BL2) that's a boss. The name, too.

The Enforcer, Wilhelm, bears a striking resemblance to the head on Jack's pet robot (the one that massacred the colonists with Helena prior to BL2) that's a boss. The name, too. Yes, that is who that is. Nisha, Claptrap, and Wilhelm are all from BL2. Athena is the only one who isn't, iirc. Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 23 2014,09:16
Athena...QUOTE former assassin of Atlas who first appeared as a non-playable character in the Borderlands DLC The Secret Armory of General Knoxx That name sounded familiar. Wilhelm I remembered. Claptrap is from way back. Holy fuck, Nisha is the sheriff chick from Lynchwood. Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 23 2014,09:20
And another.QUOTE Timothy Lawrence, the Doppelganger, is the first announced DLC character for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!. Originally, he was a Handsome Jack body double that the Vault Hunters were asked by Angel to kill in a mission from Borderlands 2. His Action Skill, Expendable Assets, which was revealed through a leaked photo, can be used to summon several digital copies of himself to fight for him, similar to the real Jack's ability in Borderlands 2.
Posted by TheCatt on Oct. 23 2014,12:43
So of the four characters, I lean towards Nisha and Wilhelm.Claptrap is annoying. Athena is a tank/shield, which is not how I know how to play. Posted by Malcolm on Oct. 23 2014,12:52
Wilhelm's got the pets, which means he's in the Mordecai/Gaige vein. Clappy is the healer.

I am stuck at a spot soon after we left off in our last multi-game.... I need to use a Nova Shield to take out 5 security cameras at once, that I can't see because the cryo-drum knocked me back when it exploded putting me out of Nova Shield range, and I keep knocking out my shield with grenades but I can't get get it done because the grenades knock me back, too. Finally feeling well enough to play games, so been playing this one.Man it can get frustrating. And man it helps to have the right gun equipped. Today: I got stuck on a 1-inch ledge. I could not run over it. That has happened several times. Posted by TheCatt on Jan. 04 2015,12:30
Done. < 40 hours including many, but not all of the side missions. Not as good as BL2. The final battles were just hard enough without being oppressive. Posted by TheCatt on Jan. 04 2015,14:08
Overall, the game was entertaining. Jack, in particular, in entertaining. At least, in the beginning. The final hours or so he loses his humour and just says things. This game was shorter than I expected. Steam says 39 hours played, but it was more like 30 hours, with several hours where the game was open but I wasn't playing it. The new moon stuff becomes almost irrelevant in the 2nd half of the game. Yeah, you can boost jump, and you can still find a few places without atmosphere, but air is pretty much everywhere in the 2nd half of the game. It rarely is needed or you run low. I butt-slammed a few people, but as a general tactic, I found myself relying on guns, guns, and more guns. The guns are basically the same as BL2, with the addition of lasers, which work well, and are pretty powerful if used correctly, or get the right bonuses. I only used 2 golden keys during the game, at Level 9, as my loot had not kept up with my level/the difficulty of the game. I actually ran out of money from buying it so much (see laser). Moonstones (eridium in BL2) was never quite plentiful enough. I needed all the ammo expansions that I could get. On a couple of boss battles, I ran out of ammo on 3 gun types. A general strategy of sniping when I could, then using my special ability (auto-aim + rapid fire, basically) made short work of most enemies, but I also felt pretty fragile. Pretty much at every point of the game, enemies were able to take me from full/near full to empty in about 5 seconds if I wasn't careful. I died more times trying to jump over lava, or drive over things than I care to admit. I got stuck in more corners and on tiny ledges (see previous post about 1" ledge) than I think should have happened. Many of the side missions were pretty short. Several were 2 minutes or so. Some of the main missions were just annoying. On one in particular, you're trying to cross a bridge, but the bridge gets taken out. So then you try to do something else, but that thing doesn't work. Rinse, repeat about 5-6 times. But in between each rinse-repeat was "run across the entire map to do something, then come back" Yawn. Overall, the game tells you about Jack before BL1 and 2. But it feels like a heavy DLC more than a complete game. $20-25 is the right price for this game. Posted by Malcolm on Jan. 20 2015,10:51
