< Candy Swipe maker writes open letter to Candy Crush maker. >So they stole his game, and it sounds like he stupidly sat around while they did it. Now they're filing for trademarks so they can block other candy games, like his, or games with saga in their name. On a related note: Really? If one can trademark a word, and just declare it to be theirs and nobody else can use it, our trademark laws need some tweaking. I mean, I get using "candy" or "saga" along with a game that's similar to theirs...you know like Candy Swipe... Gotta love King's response to their filing of the trademarks: QUOTE Like any responsible company, we take appropriate steps to protect our IP, including our look-and-feel and trademarks. Our goals are simple: to ensure that our employees’ hard work is not simply copied elsewhere, that we avoid player confusion and that the integrity of our brands remains. Is King an offshoot of EA? In other game theft news, < Flappy Bird blatantly steals artwork from Nintendo > and is making $50,000 a day. Nobody knows how as the game sucks. I can confirm that as my kid has it. Still, as the author of that article notes, will Nintendo do something about it? Considering they're getting their asses kicked in the console war, I'd have to guess yes.
