Anyone know anything about it?  Watched a couple of game play videos on Youtube and thought it looked cool enough to buy the 4 pack for $8.

It's another MOBA, but not as big as lol, obviously.  Your team mans an air ship and you fight other people in theirs.  It's seems like each ship is a 5 man team, and there are 2-4 ships on each team.  You try to capture points in the videos I was watching.

One guy (the captain) called the shots.  Called out targets, drove the ship, requested repairs, etc.

"Gallion coming up behind us.  Pulling hard right, man right guns.  Props are down.  We're sitting ducks, need repairs."  Stuff like that.  The rest of the crew runs around with a wrench repairing stuff TF2 style and manning the guns.  The guns I saw, you had to lead the target to land the shots, etc.  Long range guns, short range guns. . . umm, not sure how customizable the ships are and stuff.  There is no competitive ladder thing like in LoL that I know of, so we might not be so driven to constantly play.

Here's one of the < game play videos >.

I bought it last winter sale and haven't gotten around to playing it yet.  Guess it's finally time to do so.

MOBA?

MOBA (or whatever the letters are) the blah blah blah battle area game.

The more vids of real gameplay that I can see of these games, the better judgement I can make about spending cash on them.

That looks interesting.

Purchased. I even got the spare copies one for $3 more, so if anyone else wants to join us in the future, I'll be able to throw them a copy.

Fired it up tonight.  So far, so good.  Gordon was in a match (or 2?  I don't remember) and we lost.  He logged off.  Stranger and I continued on and won 3 in a row.  The first game we played with Gordon didn't seem to count though.  My record is 3 wins, 0 losses.

One thing is for sure.  We have NO idea what we are doing, but DAMN can I shoot stuff and holy geez can Stranger fly a blimp.  First game, we were running around doing stuff, but had no idea how to get anything done.  Gordon kept yelling out "Stern, Port, Starboard" like a big fag.  Stranger and I were speaking english and saying "Left, Right" and stuff.  I have no idea what the end result of that game was, or if we were doing ANYTHING correctly.  If it was in the air, we were shooting it.  We got blown up.  We fell off the ship.  Cluster fuck the max.

The 3 games Stranger and I played ran MUCH more smooth.  He stayed in the pilot seat and he and I got better at communicating what we needed.  The 3 games we played were a team death match thing.  2 ships on each side.  First side to 5 kills wins the match.  At first it was very difficult to figure out who to shoot at.  Luckily, for the first game we had people with us to tell me I'm shooting our teammate.  By the third game, we learned how to tell who was who while in close range.  Stranger did a VERY good job of keeping the enemy ships in my sites.  We preferred the big cannon on the front of the ship.  Very limited movement, but packed the biggest punch.  I would call out where the enemy was (Up and to the left, down and straight ahead, etc) and he'd head in that direction.  Sometimes he could see the ship I was shooting, sometimes not.  No idea what the captain's interface looks like.  That was something we had to learn at the beginning.  I could see bad guys and Stranger was taking us in all kinds of random directions.  Once I figured out what info he needed to get the ship in my sights, he did a very good job of keeping him there.  In fact, he started talking shit when he wasn't seeing damage marks!  Our two randoms took engineer slots and ran around repairing the ship.  They would take the guns every once in a while as well.  And I would try to repair when we were getting hammered.  The third game, the engineers were worthless.  They would leave the props down and start shooting the guns.  They'd leave the guns and I'd get in and there would be 7 rounds left in the magazine so I'd have to reload before I could start shooting.  You can hit reload as you leave the gun so it's always full when you come back.  But, we still pulled out the win.

The second game, the enemy was talking to our teammate as if they knew them and mentioned that we saved him a couple of times.

MUUUUUCH slower paced than LoL.  Team tactics play a good part in it, even though it's only 2v2.  Focus fire, and the wingman mentality comes into play.  There were times where we would get tunnel vision on a target and his friend would come around and smash us from the rear.  Our teammate would return fire on them (we have no rear guns) getting them off our 6.

Over all, I'm WAY too new at the game to really know what's going on.  But, it was a lot of fun passing info to Stranger so we could keep our big gun on the bad guys and shoot them.

It looks like the boats are crewed by 4 players.  Seems as though you could go in with another team to face two other ships (so, 8 of us on one side, 2 ships).  Maybe not though.

You level up, but I don't know how.  I doesn't look like it's an XP based thing.  It's a achievement based thing.  But, you can customize your ship with guns and stuff and you can pick different ships.  Not sure how or when though.  The more achievements you get play a class, the more upgrades you get.  So, as I keep playing gunner, I'll be able to use different types of rounds, guns, etc.  The engineer would be able to upgrade stuff, etc.

Keep in mind, engineers can shoot the guns and gunners can repair shit.  It's just we would each bring upgrades specific to our class.  So, committing to engineer doesn't mean a life of banging a wrench.  That's your main job, but you'll be shooting stuff too.  The meta appears to be 1 pilot (duh), 1 gunner and 2 engineers.

So, that's all I know for now.

Do the tutorials.  They are short and don't make much sense.  But, at least you will learn your way around the ship.  But the gunner tutorial was horrible.  Didn't do any of the others yet.

Funny, when I was doing the tutorials, I was wondering to myself how you would describe orientation.

The basic one seemed straightforward enough, but the Advanced one: I couldn't tell why the guns kept changing.  They didn't do a good job of explaining that at all.

I enjoyed this game also.  Although playing the pilot is kinda like playing support. As there is no glory in making that really nice slight right hand turn, into a decrease in altitude and reverse throttle.  And of course everyone is telling you to turn in a different direction, so I guess that makes it a perfect roll for me.

Although the pilot can go around and make repairs and man a gun, I found that you don't really ever wanna leave the wheel.   looks like there are quite a bit of upgrades you can bring to the table, I'm not sure but I think the pilot can bring different ships also.

I'd like to play some more to find out about the upgrades and such, and playing as an 8 man, 2 ship team would be fun.

I went through all the tutorials just now. So I am as prepared as possible.

Well, I'll tell you what. . . .  By the third game, I did not envy you in the captain's chair.  I can call out targets and directions.  But it's up to you to keep us alive.  As we getting better, I think the captain is going to be the most important position on the team.  It's easy to just run around shooting things.  The captain is the one that makes things happen.

I learned how to spot with the spyglass last night.  Not sure how that translates to info the captain is receiving.  But as we get better at feeding info, I think the captain will be less of a support and more of a leader.  If you watch the video, it's the captain barking orders that his crew has to follow.  I really don't think 20 games from now, the captain will feel like support any more.  But, that's just a theory based on a video.

I wonder if you can do ship to ship comms in the game.

Which is something that hasn't been mentioned.  The game has built in voice comms so you can communicate with the randoms you are playing with, assuming they don't have it turned off.

Just based on the tutorials, I'd say that's true.

He's going to be the shot caller too.

Just played a game in a Prymidion, or something like that.  It had a TON of guns on it.  The captain was a gunner, instead of a captain, which I thought was stupid.  But, there are two guns near the captain's chair.  So, he would line the ship up, then man the guns!  I would take the other one and we had two guns lighting the ship up.  Lots of red dots.  Then as we passed, one of us would grab the side gun and continue the damage.  The captain would line up for ramming.  When we hit, it would just bounce the enemy ship right back in front our guns and we'd continue firing.  SOOOO much damage.  That game lasted about 5 minutes with a score of 5 - 0.  Not sure what the other ship was.  But the blue team never had a chance.  I don't think this ship is a OP win button.  The guy flying the ship really knew what he was doing, and our team mate was always on screen putting in some damage as well.  At one point, both enemies popped within about 2 seconds of each other.  They were both grouped up.  Like bumping into one another.  And our team was just hammering them with rounds.

So, again.  This ship isn't a win button.  The other team obviously didn't know what they were doing, and our team was dead on with everything.  But, it was a fun ship to be on.

Did some quick searching on TS as well for if/when we get 8 people and 2 ships running.

Created two new channels.  Ship 1 and Ship 2.  You can configure settings on your client to be able to talk to two different channels at once.  That way, each ship will have their own channels, but captains can talk to each other in both channels.  That way, engineer requests aren't getting spammed to both ships, etc.  And the captains can coordinate targets and flight paths.  If/when it comes to that, I'll go into more detail.  But for now, we know it can be done.

As you know, I don't think I can get into just swinging a wrench and banging on broken machinery.  I mean, it sounds really fun, but to me it isn't.

I want to like the game, but that is just so fucking boring.

Posted by Leisher on Dec. 24 2013,14:57
So be the gunner or the captain.
Posted by GORDON on Dec. 24 2013,19:08
Well it's not fair for someone else to be stuck in that boring ass job.  The need for someone to be stuck in that boring role is really a problem with that game, in my opinion.

Maybe if we rotate.

I hate to leave you guys high and dry with a short team, but.

Posted by Cakedaddy on Dec. 24 2013,19:43
Being the engineer for you guys was WAY better than doing it for strangers.  If you just see it as banging a hammer on metal, then ya, I would see that as boring as well.  I saw it as fighting to keep my team alive.  Plus, with Strangers new flying abilities, I dished out quite a bit of damage with the guns as well.
Posted by GORDON on Dec. 24 2013,19:48
It was just going from spot to spot banging on things with a wrench, no matter what the purpose was.  You'd fix one thing just to have it damaged again 4 seconds later.  It was maddening to me.  Like when a postal worker goes insane because THE MAIL NEVER STOPS.

The time I jumped on a gun for a change of pace I wasn't there 2 seconds when you were saying DO YOUR FUCKING JOB.

Posted by Leisher on Dec. 24 2013,21:45
I think rotation is a huge part of it. You will note that under your character, you can level up in any path.

That doesn't mean we won't want to be specialized, specifically at Captain.

As Cake said, I think the Captain is the most important role.

Also, if you want to be gunner, I have no problem being an engineer. The only difference between the gunner and engineer is spotting and ammo.

Personally, I think we might want to try having the gunner cover the main and left gun, while one engineer covers the flamer, hull, and engines. That engineer can repair when needed or be there to immediately start flaming the enemy ship after the gunner just hit it with the front guns. The other engineer can float between the balloon, whatever that rear thing is, and the hull when needed.
