Ok, let's call this our official DTMan multi game thread.Who wants to be considered in our multi gaming list? So far, I see: Me Gordo Stranger Malcolm What games do we want to play? Current suggestions: The Ship Magicka Dungeon Defenders Awesomenauts Monaco Torchlight II Serious Sam 3 Planetary Annihilation Payday Payday 2 Total Annihilation Supreme Commander Left 4 Dead Left 4 Dead 2 BL2 Do we need a TeamSpeak server? If so, who wants to get it, set it up, host, etc.? Who would be ok with chipping in to pay for it? I will chip in. Also wouldn't mind setting it up and hosting if we needed that. Hell, I could hide it on an underutilized server at the office... Misc Items Catt pointed out elsewhere the Winter Steam Sale should begin tomorrow so might want to keep an eye out for these games. Posted by GORDON on Dec. 18 2013,14:08
Planetary Annihilation aint out yet.BL2.... dunno. Been there done that, and some nights were just so slow. Dungeon Defenders... played about an hour, solo. Just had the look and feel of a kid's game, to me. It looks like the "free" games my son sees on Nickelodeon and then he goes to play and after about 2 hours of gameplay it requires you to spend money to get through the next gate. I never planned on revisiting it. Posted by Leisher on Dec. 18 2013,14:09
Early Access SUCKA!Plus, I know it exists, I want to multi it, so it's on the list for future consideration. Posted by GORDON on Dec. 18 2013,14:10
Updating my original post.

I don't have a ton of time for gaming, but certainly want to be on the list if that's acceptable.

Planet Annih is early access for $45. Was just in the Humble store for $40. Was VERY close to buying it, but, I didn't know we were quitting LoL and didn't want any distractions because I'm a dedicated teammate. I would buy that now.Dungeon defenders isn't too bad. No extra money except for dlc add-ons. I played it for a while and then stopped because it felt like a multiplayer game and just seemed pointless continuing alone. Civ5 should be on the list. I have multi'd that one time and it was fun. Just make sure to set a 2.5 minute turn limit. TS server is a must. Steam works. . . but TS is better. I saw a 15 user server for around $70 for 3 years. So, a few $ from everyone and we are set for a really long time. Setting one up at your work would be fine too if you want that overhead. I guess you can have Mike do it. :-) But ya, TS is a must. Civ 5: I just can't seem to get the hang of any of them past Civ 3. I have tried. I own 4 and 5. They just seem so stupid. I wish they would stop trying to reinvent the game.
Posted by TheCatt on Dec. 18 2013,17:24
Civ 5 might be the best Civ since Civ 2.
Posted by Malcolm on Dec. 18 2013,17:29
(TheCatt @ Dec. 18 2013,19:24) QUOTE Civ 5 might be the best Civ since Civ 2. I'm somewhat intrigued. Multiplayer civ sounds like shit unless there's a timer involved, though. Otherwise, it's a more involved automated version of Axis and Allies. Posted by Malcolm on Dec. 18 2013,17:33
From other thread derailment:QUOTE Payday Payday 2 Left 4 Dead Left 4 Dead 2 BL2 I could pick these up fairly quickly as they're just point and shoot. Any type of strategy game requires a learning curve. Haven't tried Payday yet and still have some BL2 to finish (maybe the second season of DLC, too). I emphasize that thing about strategy games, be they RT or turn-based. My learning there tends to come in discrete bursts, with sometimes huge chasms of goddamnit in between. I'm in for Civ5 and Supreme Commander/Total annihilation, anything competitive I'll play.

But hey, maybe while you guys are playing that, Gordo and I play something else? That's the beauty of "non-mandatory gaming". QUOTE It is a matter of paying for the server or software or both? No clue. Cake was looking into it, so I'll defer to him. However, as he said, it's an absolute MUST for multi games. Posted by Cakedaddy on Dec. 18 2013,19:38
You can host your own for 'free'. You provide the hardware and bandwidth. Software is free. Or, you buy a hosted server for pocket change per month. The more concurrent users you want, the more you pay. The longer term you buy up front, the lower the /month charge is. The server I was looking at was 15 users, 3 years, $75. $2.08/month. We could probably get away with 10 users, until TPR invited his friends, etc. I only mentioned TPR inviting friends because no one else has any. Well, I do. But I don't want them knowing I talk to you people. And yes, my comments will go on all year. Because I'm a dedicated mother fucker. Posted by GORDON on Dec. 18 2013,20:15
You know, I probably can't get involved in anything, anyway. I don't really want to be up playing past midnight on days I have to be up at 7am, which is every night except Friday, and I get shit for it every single time.
Posted by Cakedaddy on Dec. 18 2013,20:33
Well, if that wasn't so fucking pathetic, you might not get so much shit for it. :-)

Just hit my TS server links again. It's $72 for two years, not three. The server we use now Typefrag, is the most expensive. They only have a 1 year option at $43.20 for 15 slots. The other big TS server farm is resold by a few different companies. Or, there are multiple companies with servers in the exact same (10) cities around the world with the same capabilities, up time guarantees, etc. They are as low as $64.80 for two years. Mumble servers can be found for about $15 less per two years. We know Typefrag and TS works really well. Have been using that for many months and I don't remember it ever being down when we were on it. No experience with the other ones. They all offer 30 day money back guarantees. Monthly they are $4.50 (others) to $6.00 (Typefrag). There are 3 and 6 month discounts if multiple people wanted to buy 'their' months all at the same time for a discount. etc. Posted by Leisher on Dec. 18 2013,21:23
Ok people, chime in on TS. I'm willing to chip in, host, setup, whatever. Also, keep an eye on the Steam thread during the sale. I'll shout out when I see games on the list for sale. Posted by Cakedaddy on Dec. 18 2013,21:25
I have, and am ready to play anytime:Dungeon Defenders Magicka Tons of others not mentioned: Dawn of War 1 and 2 Red Alert 3 Worms Revolution (screw you for judging me) Supreme Commander 2 SkyDrift Alien Swarm (free game on Steam) Everchron Mercenary (Plays like Eve except FPS [fly with joystick in first person like X-Wing an Tie Fighter]. You can mine, trade, fight, missions, etc. Large universe. There are persistent servers out there, but I've only played single player. This would be a sand box game to log into.) Civ 5 CS:GO TF2 That's all I can think of right now. Someone set us up the play date. Posted by Cakedaddy on Dec. 18 2013,21:27
As far as TS goes. . . we could try a home server, but I'd be concerned about latency (unless it's at work), manageability (if it goes down, can it be rebooted?) and someone taking on the overhead of setting it up.I'd be more inclined to buy a server for $6/month and if we actually use it, commit to a longer term, lower rate contract. Posted by GORDON on Dec. 18 2013,21:28
Ok, here's my list of grievances so far:1. I don't like getting shit because I want to start earlier than 11pm on school nights, and be done by midnight. This always seemed to be a problem. Seriously, if this is how it has to be, if the group can't start til 11pm every night, just count me out. It's fine. 2. I will use a situation from BL2 that actually applies to other things: I don't like people spending 10 minutes agonizing over whether they should use rifle A or rifle B, because there is a 2% difference in what they do. Fuck that. Make a decision and lets fucking go. After 5 minutes I start falling asleep and to try to stay awake I peek ahead to see what's around the corner, then I get shit for triggering some event. Posted by Malcolm on Dec. 18 2013,21:28
So we'd be renting space on a rack somewhere for a TS host? K. I'd chip in for that if it's pertinent to the game, a la BL2. You wouldn't need it for Civ unless you were having side chats trying to pull some diplomatic bullshittery.
Posted by Leisher on Dec. 18 2013,21:29
QUOTE Dungeon Defenders I'd be shocked if this is more than $5. QUOTE Magicka You actually made me buy this, but we never played it due to LoL. QUOTE Red Alert 3 I miss those games. I still laugh thinking about that map with a single square of water all the way around, and using it to send Tanya into Gordo's base behind his defenses. QUOTE TF2 This one, I honestly don't know about anymore. I think Valve let the users customize it too much. Posted by Leisher on Dec. 18 2013,21:30
And yeah, malcolm, I think we'd use it for ALL games. Steam's voice sucks. TS is a lot better. And if we're going to multi I want to talk strategy or shit. Posted by Leisher on Dec. 18 2013,21:33

After 5 minutes I start falling asleep and to try to stay awake I peek ahead to see what's around the corner, then I get shit for triggering some event. This is a YOU problem. Sorry, but in BL2 all guns are not the same, and it wasn't just about 2% damage. I would dump higher damage weapons based on how they shoot. That game is about loot, and you must sort through it. It's half the fun. Ditto for RPGs, Torchlight, Diablo, etc. If you're going to play a storyline game with me, know that I'm a completionist. Posted by GORDON on Dec. 18 2013,21:33
TF2 - I fired it up again recently, because I needed something to do. Wanted to get into a sniper duel like in the old days. I hit up my fave old servers.1. Sniper positions were already maxed and I couldn't get in. 2. When I did finally get in, I was getting headshotted by other snipers before I ever saw them. I would check their pings, same as mine, so that wasn't it. I would say I am just not fast any more, but like i said, I wold be dead before I even cleared the corner. I don't see TF2 being a good, reliable multi game. Every night you'd need to find a server with enough open slots, we'd never all get on the same team, I've never seen much in the way of coordinated teamwork, etc. Posted by Cakedaddy on Dec. 18 2013,21:33
Ya, even in Civ, I'd talk to everyone, and type secrets to people.

I understand that you enjoy agonizing over little differences when I can just glance at 2 similar rifles and make a choice in about 10 seconds because I don't care enough to spend a lot of time on it, because I feels it drags the game to a halt. So again, as with everything else, my only problem is me. Posted by Cakedaddy on Dec. 18 2013,21:36
That is all so interesting and fun to read.Anyone want to setup a play date yet?! Posted by Malcolm on Dec. 18 2013,21:40
Well what the fuck are we playing, homies?
Posted by Cakedaddy on Dec. 18 2013,21:47
I think this website would be way cooler if it had a calendar on it where people could post events so people could play games together.
Posted by GORDON on Dec. 18 2013,21:47
That sounds like a terrible game.

Again, keep an eye on the Steam sales starting tomorrow?I'm ready to go on the games I listed. If we get votes for other games like Civ 5, I'll track down a copy. I will keep as many games on our list installed as I can. I plan to check in here daily to announce my gaming intentions, and sometimes just be on at night and see who's on. If I'm in Steam, I'm ready to game. Same way we did LoL. And I do want to rush this TS thing. Let's pause this conversation until the Steam sale starts at...1 p.m. EST?...and maybe it'll help us decide what to start with? Posted by Cakedaddy on Dec. 18 2013,21:53
Well, like, most of us have Dungeon Defenders. Lets try that. Why wait when we have stuff to play now!!The TS server sets up in minutes. So, if we get some ACTUAL GAMES GOING instead of this constant talking, I'll have it up before everyone has the game started. Posted by GORDON on Dec. 18 2013,22:08
I thought DD was pretty stupid but if everybody wants to try it I will give multi a shot.

I'm playing Dungeon Defenders 12/19/2013. Using Chaotic's TS server for now. If we keep playing games, I'll buy us a new one. But, I figure you guys helped pay for his, we can use it a little bit longer.I will be starting at 8:00pm, unless I hear from other people naming a better start time. I will be starting a new character, and I ask that others do as well so that it is balanced. New people, download TS3 and configure it BEFORE game time! We will not be waiting! Tonight I wont be ready to sit down for realsies until about 9:30.

i will chip in whatever money needed for the TS server, so lemme know.i personally don't own alot of the games on the list currently but i know alot of them are pretty cheap. But i don't wanna buy a game just to be the 5th player on a game that can only play 4, thats what happened to me in B2 and noone else wanted to play with me because i wasn't in their group. I'd like to know that if a certain group of people start playing a game that someone that isn't on as much just gets left out because they aren't apart of the "regular" group that plays. I know each game will kinda dictate that, but its a fair concern. So i don't know which games have a hard limit on the number of people that can play at any given time, but i'd suggest looking for a game that can play more than 4 and has a good dropin/dropout feature so people can come and go as they please and it won't have an effect on the rest of the people. And is there a way to start a poll to see what games people are interested in playing, or maybe lets get a thread going that shows what games we all have so i can have a better idea of what i'm going to wanna buy. I really am looking forward to this because for some of us our time is limited and we just wanna enjoy the time we do get of gaming. So like Leisher mentioned before, i'm in hopes that we can get different people playing different games so that we pick and choose what we want to play on any given night. But as far as me having a hard schedule on when i can be on, thats gonna be depending on how the night goes for me. Posted by TheCatt on Dec. 19 2013,05:22

Posted by GORDON on Dec. 19 2013,05:23
Serious Sam 3 supports 16 players in co-op.Teamspeak 3 is easily found, and then you just need to plug in a server address. Configuring your mic and shit needs to be done in windows. I am not excited about Dungeon Defenders. If it only supports 4, consider me happily out for someone else to play. Posted by TheCatt on Dec. 19 2013,05:27
What is Overwolf? I did not install that (as part of TS3) for now.
Posted by GORDON on Dec. 19 2013,05:43

OK, I got permission to play from 8:30 to 10:30 or so.
Posted by Stranger on Dec. 19 2013,06:46
so far to me the following games interest me the most:Planetary Annihilation- wow, looks like alot of fun and can play 10 at a time, looks like its $60 on steam right now. Magicka- cheapish, looks fun, don't know much about it tho Payday 2- bank robbers! ok, i'm down for that Monaco- again, don't know much about, but looks interesting. I'd give it a try Awesomenauts- sure, why not. So far i'm not so much interested in Dungeon Defenders, never really been a fan of tower defense games and its got so much dlc, i wonder if its worth playing without all the extra dlc's. Serious Sam looks just like an old FPS that doesn't really stand out, but i do like the 16 player co-op. i could prolly be conviced if everyone else is down with this one tho. i have a few recommendations that you all should consider too: Mechwarrior online- first off its free! you can play up to 12v12 PvP. I find it to be a pretty fun Mech game and the games go pretty fast. Kinda hard to play but you get to build your own mechs. Guild Wars 2- i love RPG's, yes they are a time sink, but i've never gotten to play one with a group i know and would love to try it sometime. Its prolly full price so that sucks, but i would definetly be down with an RPG even if this isn't the one, but i've played this when it was free for a weekend and i enjoyed it. Path of Exile- once again free! many consider this game the better version of Diablo 3 and i have also enjoyed this game. It even has permadeath game modes! Also, i do own Civ5 and i think that would be a fun one to go with Posted by TPRJones on Dec. 19 2013,07:09
Count me in, I'll try almost anything. Although I'll steer clear of anything involving leveling and progression and stick to joining y'all for random pick-up games that don't require a regularly scheduled commitment. Also I can't do realistic shooters, they make me motion sick. But otherwise, someone ping me on Steam when a game is forming and if I'm not already otherwise committed I'll be in!Oh, and Teamspeak? Yuck! < Mumble > for life, yo. It's worlds better. As to specific games: The Ship - This will be a lot of fun for six to twelve people for about 10 to 15 hours across a couple of weeks. Then it will get sort of meh until someone remembers about it a year later. Magicka, Dungeon Defenders, & Torchlight II - Generally a max of four players, and progression matters so I'll join you in these if you are a person short one night but wouldn't be around for the long haul. L4D2 - Get eight people and you won't find many more amusing ways to spend an hour than all-talk L4D2 Versus. The Oldtimers have nightly weeknight games at 8PM EST that I join from time to time when they come up short. TF2 - There's potential for a lot of fun here, but you have to find a good server with good people to make it happen. Or if you have six players you can do some Man vs Machine which can be a hoot (basically like Dungeon Defenders in TF2). Most of the others mentioned I own but haven't played yet. Or at least not enough to remember. There's also a lot of interesting free-to-play stuff out there of all types and genres that could be worth checking out. As long as it's a game where character progression isn't a factor to separate us from playing together (since I probably won't stick with them long enough to keep up), I'd be up for trying any of those with y'all as well. Oh, and if you need a simple free game to start with before the Steam sale kicks in I recommend < Pretend You're Xyzzy >. It's web-based Cards Against Humanity, and as long as you don't pick the weird decks full of in-jokes none of us would understand it can be a lot of fun (especially if you're all in voice chat together). The gimmick with SS is that it is a throwback to Doom 2.... meaning, hundreds and hundreds of monsters rushing you all all once. It's insane. I don't think that has really been done in a FPS SINCE Doom 2.... even Doom 3 turned down the spawn count. So when Serious Sam did it, peeps were like, "Oh wow, we forgot this kind of thing existed!" That has been its hook ever since. We went through SS:The Second Encounter as a group, we seemed to have fun. SS2 had problems on the multi side of it... you couldn't password lock your own games, and random cocksuckers (we call them hitlers, now) would join your game and just rush on ahead triggering everything all at once. I am assuming SS3 has pword protected games, now. Also, SS3 has different co-op multi modes.... unlimited respawning, 3 deaths per person before they are forced to just spectate, and a mode with 3 deaths PER TEAM. Yowza. Posted by Leisher on Dec. 19 2013,07:54
QUOTE I am not excited about Dungeon Defenders. So far your suggestions haven't exactly wooed me, but that's ok. The whole point of this is trying new stuff. Somethings will click with all of us, some with none of us, and others will find fans here and there. The point of this whole thing is to eliminate mandatory gaming. That means no more "You must be on nightly at 10 p.m." or "We can't play without ____ being online." I can tell you right now, that I am not going to get upset even slightly if I get on, and there's a game already going that I can't join. I will simply play one of the 100 or so solo games I have yet to play, and if a spot opens, message me. Again, no more mandatory gaming. Now the exception to that would be if we started a long RPG or something, but for all these quick, no long storyline, indy, multiplayer games who cares who is playing and who isn't? PA - Looks awesome, but we need to wait for gold. Magicka - Cake spoke highly of it. Payday 1 and 2 - Remind me of TF2 or L4D, but you're bank robbers. Awesomenauts - I honestly don't really know what it is, just that it has multi and I own 3 copies. Dungeon Defenders - Wouldn't be my first choice either, but it's co-op so why not? The Ship - I think this would be a fucking ball for a while as TPR says. Especially in voice. Remember the offline game assassination? This is basically that, but in digital form. You're all on a ship, and have been assigned to kill one other person. The trick is each person is assigned to kill someone different, and you don't know who is after you. Fun! TF2 - Again, I lean towards skipping TF until TF3 hits. I just think it's a completely different game from what we played 3 years ago. L4D 1 & 2 - I'm all about playing these. Monaco - seems fun, different, and gets great reviews. Mechwarrior Online - might be ok. Guild Wars 2 - I doubt it. No MMORPG is going to compare to UO. They just aren't the same. They are going to have to have heavy PvP WITH MEANINGFUL PUNISHMENTS FOR LOSING. Without that, I can tell you right now that Cake and Gordo aren't interested, and I wouldn't be either. Plus, MMORPGs are fringe mandatory gaming. Not saying a persistent online game is out of the question, but I'm going to be very careful about joining one. I mean, if we were to do something long term like that, why not just keep playing LoL? Posted by Leisher on Dec. 19 2013,07:56

There are a shitload of multi and co-op games out there that we've never discussed that could be fun, not to mention all the ones already mentioned that we haven't touched yet. I tried out Awesomenauts today, and I think if we did co-op it, it'd be something to simply rush through and never play again. It has charm, but it is a 2D platformer. I don't see the multiplayer aspect of it being fun at all. If anyone loves 2D platformers, let me know. I still have 1-2 copies to give away.I also still have two copies of Guns of Icarus to hand out. Also tried out Payday, and that has awesome potential. It seems to be all co-op(?), and it's going to require a lot of teamwork and communication. Where are we on an RTS? SC? SC2? AoEII? January 2nd is the end of the Steam sale, and on the 1st or 2nd, they recap all the stuff that was on sale, which means Planetary Annihilation will be on sale again... That way we can learn the game together and i wouldn't be playing against gordo in AoE2 where he knows all the shortcuts and secrets of the game already. And this game just looks more interesting to me than all the other ones. What you fail to understand is. . . . those are the good ones. I forgot to mention that I also have Space Craft 2. As far as Gordon knowing the shortcuts, etc. There will always be someone that knows the game better than you do because there will always be someone that plays it more than you. But yes. That is why Gordon wants to play only AoE2 and SC1. Because he knows all the short cuts to those games and can beat us all. But I would be king of TA. I don't think anyone knows SC2 well enough to claim king. I think Troy and I are the only ones that have played Dawn of War games. I would buy PA right now, but I doubt anyone else will. Which would put us ahead of them in that game when/if it ever gets played. So, there will always be someone more familiar with an RTS, and better, than everyone else because we all play different ones. Posted by GORDON on Dec. 31 2013,09:56

ok. i believe they are good games.. And so was the original Warcraft, i owned it and loved it, but its dated. And when i played what little i did play of AoE2 it felt really dated to me too. As far as SC, im assuming you're talking about Supreme Commander and not Starcraft. I haven't played those games but i have read good things about them. But that game was released on Steam in 2010 so its already getting dated. I just know that alot of them older RTS games were all pretty much the same and didn't offer anything new besides what they looked like. PA looks like they are adding alot of different features and a different type of game than the same old RTS's. i'd much rather be a part of a game that is growing and currently getting developed into something better (even if its not perfect as of yet) than play some game that no longer is getting updates and support. I guess thats what i really love about LOL so much, its always changing. So i would be happy to drop some extra money for a newer more exciting game (in my eyes) than play some dated game that i will be bored with in a few weeks. Posted by Stranger on Dec. 31 2013,10:12

Posted by Cakedaddy on Dec. 31 2013,11:07
You are making a handful of incorrect assumptions about games you haven't played. . . .With each generation of RTS, they got better at making them. Hard to explain. But each time you played one of the first RTS games (War Craft, Red Alert, etc) there was something about them you wish was different. And a later RTS came along that offered that. TA was the best in my opinion with it's build queue depth, unit selection, etc. Supreme Commander expanded on that allowing much bigger maps and potentially much larger armies. However, given that TA can now run on hardware WAY beyond what was out when it launched, it can handle some very large armies as well. Then came SupCom2. Here they tried to add a new element where you had to decide how to specialize or improve your units and how quickly that would happen. I would also mention that the creators of TA, SupCom and SupCom2 had a tendency to create games for hardware that didn't exist. The games NEVER ran well at launch because they had STEEP hardware requirements. So by the time hardware caught up, the game was already a year old. Read our old threads on these games to verify this. These games were always ahead of their time and aged well because of it. To say these games are dated, having never played them, because the creators of all these 'old' games have a new game in beta would be writing off games way too soon. You would be wrong to think either of the SupCom games are dated. But now, sharing my opinion of the games having actually PLAYED! them. . . . I like SupCom2 over SupCom because it got you back into the battle. I think they went too big with SupCom. Sure, epic battles are awesome sounding and that's what people wanted. But once I had it, I didn't care for it much. I always played the game zoomed so far out that I was playing with X's and O's, not tanks and planes. If you zoomed in enough to see the units and the actual fighting, you'd miss something important someplace else. Yes, you could play with two monitors, one zoomed in, one out. But I also found no point in zooming in to see the action because I couldn't stay there long enough to really see anything. I had to manage units someplace else. So, I would zoom in occasionally to see what the game actually looked like, think "That's awesome!" and then zoom back out to keep fighting and not lose the game. With SupCom2, they reduced the size of the armies and maps, added tech upgrades and got you back into the game. You are with your army again, instead of hovering 15 miles overhead driving X's and O's. That's not to say SupCom is bad. I would play it now if I had it installed. Just saying, I think SupCom2 is better, and why. Posted by Leisher on Dec. 31 2013,11:08
QUOTE Honestly if i'm gonna play an RTS i don't wanna play some old ass outdated one. I completely agree. That being said, I think you'd find Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander, and Supreme Commander 2 very acceptable. TA came out in the late 90s or early 00s, and it's miles better than anything in the C&C series. Seriously, I cannot stress enough that when it comes to the Annihilation series (which the SC games are a part of), you need to get the "dated" image out of your head. QUOTE I'd much rather be a part of a game that is growing and currently getting developed into something better (even if its not perfect as of yet) than play some game that no longer is getting updates and support. I guess thats what i really love about LOL so much, its always changing. Well, don't go crazy here. LoL, at it's core, hasn't changed much at all. They just trick you like a woman. They add skins, champs, some items that are really the same as older ones, and tweak some stats, but at the end of the day, it's all the same. A woman will dye her hair, get a make over, wear push up bras or spanks or not, get a boob job, wear glasses, learn some new tricks in bed, etc. However, she's still the same woman underneath. (Make this analogy a man if it helps you.) I mean you could say that all games in any genre are really all the same. It boils down to the polish put on the games. LoL's biggest weakness is the strength you see. Their constant development. They're stuck with the same engine and core game. Meanwhile, games that get released, and then eventually lose support get two things: 1. The modder community (there's a mod for TA that turns it into Star Wars) 2. The development team can create a sequel or new game from scratch using new technologies, not just spray painting old an old one. Anyway, I'm with you, and I get your point, but at the same time, I think you're giving LoL a little bit of undue credit. QUOTE I would buy PA right now, but I doubt anyone else will. I'm already 80% sure I'm going to buy it within the next 24 hours. I think Stranger said he'd buy it, and read something about it being in really good shape in its current form. Anyone else who plays RTSs must think of this game as a must buy, so others will be joining us. As for Gordo, I think I might be into him for $37, which is $3 shy of the current price... My apologies. I thought I'd be back to a regular schedule tonight, but I've got a frozen pipe to deal with. Once I'm back at work, I'll be back on my regular gaming schedule. Posted by TheCatt on Jan. 07 2014,16:48
How does one deal with a frozen pipe? We appear to have one in one of our sinks. It's part of a dual vanity, and the other one is fine.
Posted by GORDON on Jan. 07 2014,18:01
Once it is frozen all you can do it wait it out or try to thaw it. Don't use an open flame. Could burst, too. Could already have burst. You wont know until it thaws.
Posted by Leisher on Jan. 07 2014,18:13
Is it a drain pipe or a pipe carrying water? For a drain, you can put space heaters in the area to help the process. You can also try pushing a garden hose down until it hits the ice, then pour hot water into it. Go slow as it'll obviously come back up until the ice is gone. For running water pipes, shut the water off immediately. Wrap the pipes in some towels or something to insulate them, and again soft heat from a space heater or something. To prevent other freezes, open cabinets under sinks, turn your furnace up a bit, etc. Posted by GORDON on Jan. 07 2014,18:16
Do your pipes run through a slab, crawl space, basement, or none of the above?
Posted by TheCatt on Jan. 07 2014,18:21
Pipe carrying water. I can't reach the pipes, they are in the wall of the house, which is an exterior wall. I don't think it's in the part of the cabinet under the sink, I would think it's in the walls. Since one sink works and the other doesn't, though, that has to narrow it down.
Posted by Leisher on Jan. 07 2014,18:22
Do whatever you can to get some heat into that area and shut the water off ASAP.

I can't believe you have a frozen water pipe though. It's got to be COLD COLD COLD for it to get into the wall and freeze a pipe. The only pipes I've ever heard of freezing are pipes that lead outside. Like to a garden hose or something. You'd have frost on the inside of the wall if the pipe inside was freezing.

Asking people to estimate the number of hours they have played with me over the last 10 years, and how many have been played with you. I bet I would win. And this has what to do with waiting in Steam each night over the past three LoL based years? Or are you simply trying to brag to me about an "achievement" I couldn't give a shit about? I play single player games (more than anyone else here, except perhaps TPR), and have a far more active social calendar than you. Meanwhile, you are more into multi games, and would rather play them over single player games. You also are still playing when the rest of us have gone to bed during the work week. I'm not sure how that "wins" you anything. And FYI, over the past 3 LoL years my routine has been to log on sometime between 9-10 each night. Make small talk with Gordo (who was always first on), and wait for you to get on around 10. I've listened to complaints wondering why it's so difficult for you to let us know if you're not getting on or getting on late more times than I can count. I've also watched Gordon do his famous "fuck it I'm not waiting anymore" log off move countless times. In those cases, you know what I do? Something else. I'll go play a single player game. Watch a movie. Read. Go have sex with the wife. Whatever. What I wasn't doing was playing multi just for the sake of playing multi. You would. So if that's your criteria for winning, congratulations. That still has nothing to do with LoL and the last three years, which is what was being discussed. But hey, trying to change the topic at hand and name calling is always what adults who have a strong argument in a debate do, right? P.S. I presented evidence of my availability to the game over the last three years. You claimed that my "if my status is away I'm probably not" statement was bullshit. I presented evidence to the contrary. There may have been times when you waited for me, but the number of times I waited for others, and ended up playing with others, was far greater. When I waited until 10, it was after many nights of being on at 9 and waiting till 10 for others. So I figured 10 was the new 9.And then continued to present evidence about my availability and dedication to multi gaming when you claimed that you and Gordon have done more for multi gaming than I have and it was my turn to carry the torch. I think I have demonstrated my dedication to multi gaming (which is the topic at hand, I believe) even beyond our LoL years. Thus establishing a trend and precedence. I wasn't trying to win an achievement. I was trying to win an argument by presenting evidence countering your claim. And as far as name calling, other than calling Gordon a 'man lover' and you and me 'adults', I have no idea what you are talking about. At no point did I change the subject. Everything I posted was in support of my claim that I am the most dedicated and available person, for multiplaying games, than anyone else here. QUOTE Everything I posted was in support of my claim that I am the most dedicated and available person, for multiplaying games, than anyone else here. I'd say you're wrong. You know who I see online every night? Gordon. He's online from dawn until old guy bedtime. I log into Steam every single day around 6 p.m., and have done so for at least 4-5 years. He's always there. He is as constant as the North Star. If someone held a gun to my head and said name one person from this group who will be logged into Steam, and it was between 7 a.m. and midnight, I'd say Gordon. Now if the question were: "Who plays more multiplayer games than anyone else?" or "Who masturbated to the pictures of double dick guy?" then I'd say Cakedaddy. It's not my turn for that shit anymore. I'll also say it's not Gordo's either. You're up." That's when you said it. If I had said "Psychotic asshole" or "Delusional fuck tard", that would be name calling. I was pointing out a state of mind. Ok. Ya. Gordon wins the 'time spent in Steam' battle. QUOTE Again. Lets have a poll. See who's logged more time. Just because you had to wait for me a couple of times, doesn't mean you always have to. You have been absent WAAAAYYYYYY more than me. So wait, let me get this straight... A minute ago, this was me claiming I've played more multi games than you. Now it's about me logging more minutes than you? You can't even remember what you're debating in the time span of two posts, but you remember the last three years perfectly? I don't care about more multi games played or "time logged", and honestly, you shouldn't either. I never made statements about either, and have previously assigned both titles to you many times in years past. You know that, so why do you always feel the need to try and defend that title? Nobody wants to take it from you. QUOTE When a pattern develops, one assumes it's safe to assume. Hasn't worked for you yet. Maybe that's why there's an expression about it? In fact, this entire conversation is going on because you assumed incorrectly, and couldn't be bothered to message anyone about gaming. QUOTE "I've done the message and wait bullshit for three years. I've watched Gordon play games for three years while waiting for people to get on. It's not my turn for that shit anymore. I'll also say it's not Gordo's either. You're up." That's when you said it. That's when I said what exactly? Games played? Time logged? Explain it to me because your position keeps changing. I can't keep track of it anymore. And no, that's not when I said "I played more games than you". In fact, unless you're special needs, I'm not sure how you get that out of that statement. I'm not kidding. How does me watching Gordo play games equal I play more games than you? Again, that assumption thing really works for you! QUOTE If I had said "Psychotic asshole" or "Delusional fuck tard", that would be name calling. I was pointing out a state of mind. I just pointed out one too. QUOTE But we've been talking about being available to multi playing games with friends. No, we haven't. I was simply responding to an ass clown who instead of messaging anyone decided a more productive route to spur multi play would be to post a picture that took him far more time than messaging anyone. Your logical response was to attack me. I stated my usual daily routine (excluding weekends of course) during our time in LoL You took that as a personal attack on you and your gaming record like a knight watching a dragon pimp slap a fair maiden. I'm going to repeat this so we're clear: I don't give a fuck about who has logged the most time playing multi or who has played the most multi games. I cannot stress that enough. I don't desire either title in any way, shape, or form nor have I ever attempted to take those titles from you. However, my stated routine was indeed my routine for a loooong time. There's plenty of LoL posts to prove it, my wife and kids' testimony, and of course, my memories of listening to Gordo rage about other people not being online and waiting for the inevitable countdown ("If they're not on by 10:30, I'm logging."). And not one second of me being on daily between 9-10 is intended to steal your multigame thunder. Just pointing out my life during the LoL years. QUOTE And as you said, I win that. I'll make sure "Most Time Multiing" is on your tombstone. Posted by Cakedaddy on Jan. 10 2014,18:40
And this is when my argument with you ends because your statements are now going off in so many random directions that I can't reel you back in any more. All of my responses were directly related to comments you made, then you spin and add to them trying to debase them. But all it does is spiral the conversation to an extreme that can't be followed any more.At this point, I start repeating things, again, trying to help you understand what we are talking about. So, just circle back up to where Gordon made a point of posting a picture where he was in steam and instead of people messaging him, everyone played their own games. Then reread everything that's been posted. Maybe it will make more sense the second time around! Posted by Leisher on Jan. 10 2014,19:45

Mostly I like the vehicles. Turns out I am pretty decent at flying in this game, although not so much as shooting while flying. For some reason I find the fighter plane in this game much easier to fly upside down. *shrug* Posted by Stranger on Jan. 21 2014,07:35
So it seems that after the huge Steam sale and after all of these game recommendations that none of them have really caught on. I mean sure i've co-oped Torchlight, Supreme Commander, Guns of Icarus, Dungeon Defenders, Magicka, and prolly some others a few times but really have they made any of us excited to log on to play? Not me. I have given every game a chance, i keep an open mind and hope that it will be the next game that we all love to play night in and night out. It just hasn't seemed to happen, infact i think its made most of us kinda bored with the game nights. I can only speak for myself here. I know i was one of the biggest proponents to trying new games when this all started to take place. But i guess i was thinking that we would all find a really cool game we all liked and even bring a few new people into the mix. But it hasn't happened. I guess i'm just having a little bit of LOL remorse right now, but it is what it is. RTS games are great, love em, but after a game or two i've had enough for a while. Games like Dungeon Defenders and Torchlight, Magicka are just a minor distraction to me. Hell, i bought DayZ and haven't even played it. For me i like a good PvP teamwork based game. Kinda like LOL. I guess i'm kinda like Cake in that sense. I think thats really the only kinda game that will get us all on the same page again. So maybe we should be looking for games like that to play. I know that i've mentioned Mechwarrior before. Its teambased, 12v12, you build/buy your own Mechs, and best of all its free. I know you guys pretty good and think you would like it. Just a suggestion, because i think we are looking for a game we all like and can be a team on. Posted by Leisher on Jan. 21 2014,10:30
I get what you're saying. Allow me to try and throw some details at it. QUOTE So it seems that after the huge Steam sale and after all of these game recommendations that none of them have really caught on. It happens. Not every game is "the one". Part of the problem is that a LOT of games have been recommended, yet only a very small handful have been played. Even fewer have been played by a majority of the folks talking about multiing. In fact, I think the list is Guns of Icarus, Dungeon Defenders, and Supreme Commander. I haven't been a part of any multiplayer session for Torchlight or Magika. Didn't even know they were being played. Only three of us have played Payday, and we seemed to have a blast doing so (Malcolm would be the fourth.). QUOTE I have given every game a chance, i keep an open mind and hope that it will be the next game that we all love to play night in and night out. You and Gordo seem to have the same goal: Find one new game and play it exclusively. When I started this whole thing is was about flexibility. I don't want to sit down each night and be expected to be there at a certain time, and in a certain game. That's fine for a while, but not on a permanent basis. I want to see folks on, have a discussion about what to play, and play it. Maybe tonight is an RTS, tomorrow a FPS, maybe the day after that is movie night and you don't get on, and so on. QUOTE It just hasn't seemed to happen, infact i think its made most of us kinda bored with the game nights. I can only speak for myself here. Granted, Dungeon Defenders, while fun, isn't exactly addictive game play, Guns of Icarus was fun, but difficult. And honestly, your disinterest shows in the fact that you haven't been on at all lately. In fact, I don't think I've seen you online since you made a comment about missing LoL a week or two ago. QUOTE I know i was one of the biggest proponents to trying new games when this all started to take place. But i guess i was thinking that we would all find a really cool game we all liked It's been one month, and we've played exactly how many of the games that were recommended? 5? QUOTE and even bring a few new people into the mix. But it hasn't happened. Totally agree here. LOTS of people talking about joining in, and nobody actually doing it. (Except Troy!) Gauntlet thrown down. QUOTE I guess i'm just having a little bit of LOL remorse right now, but it is what it is. I have LoL remorse too. I miss playing it nightly. And at the same time, I wish the game had never been made. Seriously. QUOTE RTS games are great, love em, but after a game or two i've had enough for a while. Games like Dungeon Defenders and Torchlight, Magicka are just a minor distraction to me. Hell, i bought DayZ and haven't even played it. For me i like a good PvP teamwork based game. Kinda like LOL. I guess i'm kinda like Cake in that sense. This is part of the problem. There is no game that makes everyone perfectly happy. LoL? We lose everyone else. You're still not a nightly player. Gordo and Cake are and bitch about nobody being on. I get dragged into playing a lot of nights when I'd rather not watch my nights disappear into 3 matches, and honestly would probably stop logging on just so I can avoid being sucked into another three year time sink. Not to mention the fun of dealing with fights among ourselves, trying to find a team, figuring out who plays when too many are on, being verbally attacked, ending a night pissed off, Hitlers, teens, etc. I truly believe League of Legends is the best game ever made, and the worst. Payday? - IMHO, the best new game we've tried and for some reason Gordo won't even give it a look. AoE? - Destroyed by Cake, and his argument is valid. No point in going back in time. I guess this argument applies to SC and TA as well. SC2? - The only game that seems to have a shot at getting a majority of the people on these forums into a game. However, some won't join us, and at least you find it boring. (Others might too?) Dungeon Defenders? - We have 5 people who play, but somehow have only managed 4 in game at any one time. Honestly, not a game I'm dying to play nightly, and apparently, neither are you. Guns of Icarus? - It's kinda, sorta fun, but not. I absolutely get what they're going for, but it's a bit slow, and some positions are more fun than others. I knew you were bored with it when you never showed up again after the second night you were piloting. Gordo was very vocal in his dislike for the game. Planetary Annihilation? - Already a sore subject for some based on who owns it, who doesn't, etc. It's still in alpha. Would it be more fun than SC2? If so, I'm game. L4D series? - It was free recently, and both versions are pretty cheap. The multiplay is a lot like Payday, except there's PvP as humans can play as the zombies. Monaco? - I believe you and I are the only folks who got it. The Ship? - Another one that's uber cheap, has PvP, and quick games. Seems like it would be fun despite the dated graphics. Torchlight II? - I believe Cake has already beaten it. I would do it if we really wanted too, but not one I could play with Gordon. I'd actually want to hear the story, explore, make sure I'm not throwing away a much better item, etc. (Not bashing Gordo! Just pointing out our differences in tastes.) Civilization? - I would stink on ice in this game, but fuck it. I'd play it if it got more of us playing. Team Fortress 2? - It's free and has PvP. Counter Strike?- PvP. Teamwork. I wish Gordo liked sportsball because we could get a Madden, college football, NHL, FIFA, NBA, whatever league going. Anyway, point being, we'll never find a game that everyone wants to play nightly. There's always going to be someone that doesn't want to play. However, I thought the point of this was to vary things up a bit. Play different types of games different nights, and NOT make our gaming "appointment gaming". That being said, I agree with Gordo that we can't switch things up every day or even every week. Pick some games, and let's go. Guns of Icarus didn't work out? How about trying The Ship? Most of us own Planetary Annihilation now... I'm game for trying Mechwarrior. Rust, Day Z, and whatever that third one is are very interesting and involve PvP and teamwork, but they're all in alpha. Etc. On a final note, Gordo just told me my status has been in "Away" the last few nights, and it was assumed I wasn't there. For those who are unaware, Steam puts you in "Away" status if you don't move your mouse. If you see me online, I want to multi. I've said that previously. Or as someone else put it: QUOTE If my steam says "away", there is a 90% chance that I'm not. And a simple quick message would verify that.

QUOTE Dungeon Defenders? - We have 5 people who play, but somehow have only managed 4 in game at any one time. That's because apart from some high-level DL maps that will support 6 players, this is a game strictly limited to 4 max. We tried one night, and couldn't even get 5 into the tavern.QUOTE L4D series? - It was free recently, and both versions are pretty cheap. The multiplay is a lot like Payday, except there's PvP as humans can play as the zombies. I'd be down for this one from time to time if there are eight for versus. I don't enjoy survivor all that much, but I'll play it if it means I get to play zombie. Additionally I know another group of gamers (the < Oldtimers Clan >) that y'all would probably get on very well with that play this almost every night at 8PM EST. So if y'all play not too long after that game is over I might have a pool of random folks to fill out the eight if more are needed.QUOTE Gauntlet thrown down. Eh, I'll always be a flake. This past month I replayed all of Dragon Age, went crazy for a bit in Minecraft (specifically Tekkit), had to rebuild my computer (147F is not a healthy constant CPU temp), and of course there was the Kerbal Space Program thing that is classified until all the widows have been notified.I figure once y'all have settled on the typical one to four or so games that will most likely be played, then I'll be a random joiner from time to time, if it's a game I like and if y'all will have me. But I'll probably never be a core player except for the possible occasional brief one or two month obsession that might come up. Posted by Cakedaddy on Jan. 21 2014,14:16
Knowing what's being played, and everyone getting on and playing has ended with our game whoring. So many nights staring at away statuses and people in other games. If I'm on and waiting, and no one messages me, I assume they don't want to play. Otherwise, why aren't they sending any messages? And when I have messaged 'away' people, they don't respond. It seems that now that we don't have a set game, no one messages anyone because they don't want the hassle of picking a game. Telling someone they don't want to play what they want to play and/or end up playing a game they didn't want to play just so a game is being played. You said you don't like playing games by appointment, but I think that's the best way to do it. Discuss here what's going to be played and then those that want to play, show up for it and log in. The "You didn't message me" thing is stupid because that goes both (many) ways. I have taken to playing Oblivion until someone sends me a message, and no one ever does. So I'll say it again as well. If I'm on Steam, I want to play a game. Message me. Lastly, our gaming has sucked lately because we don't play anything that matters. There's no draw because there's a complete lack of accomplishment. Yes, the games of SC2 have been fun. But at the same time, unrewarding. We aren't accomplishing anything. There's no trash talk here about games, no epic battle descriptions, etc. No sense of accomplishment. Fun game, but unrewarding. So, the draw that LoL had isn't there, because there's no reward. Not suggesting we don't play. I'm pointing out the reason we don't play that much. Well, all that plus no one messages anyone to get things started and Stranger is never on. As far as AoE2 goes, ya, I was bitching about it, but I was looking for help/guidance as well. Even asked for a game save that I could watch for hints on how to play. Never really got help and no one else was playing it so it dropped off the list. Stranger was the one saying "If it's not the latest and greatest thing being improved and right now, then I don't want to play it. That's why we should all get PA.". I was playing AoE2, but was getting frustrated for all the reasons I listed. PA. Right now, it would not be more fun than SC2. It would be a different kind of fun and just as much fun as SC2. It's alpha, so it's limited. One race. Lacks in units. Lacks in polish, etc. Would it be fun? Absolutely. Each game I play makes me enjoy it that much more. It's limited in all the ways listed above, but you also do stuff here that's totally new. Different planets, orbital combat, etc. I predict PA games taking forever to play. . . Perhaps the only way to end the game will be to systematically destroy all planets so that we are forced to be on one and duke it out. And this isn't a bad design thing. It's that we are going to want to build 'secret' bases, etc and will end up with battles in 6 different areas (planet A surface/orbit, planet B surface/orbit, asteroid belts, etc). So, ya, this game is going to be fun, but in a way totally different from other RTS. I do recommend playing it. But if we aren't all at the same skill level, the amount of fun we have will be limited by divergent skill levels. Just like in SC2. I have not beaten TL2. I would play it as part of a group here. I like that game and see a ton of replayability with it. I suck at Civ5 as well. Have played MAYBE 3 games to the end. But I enjoy playing the game. I thought DD allowed 6 on some maps? Posted by Leisher on Jan. 21 2014,19:06
What I have currently installed is: Monaco, Payday, GoI, SC2, PA, and DD. I have no idea what to recommend on a nightly basis. I still disagree with appointment gaming, and honestly, that's probably not the right phrase. What we used to do before LoL was appointment gaming. "Hey we're on, let's play the game that currently has our attention." LoL got to be like punching a time clock. So appointment gaming is fine, and I think we achieve that when we log on each night. Expected to be on nightly to play the same game for three years is a bit beyond appointment gaming. Anyway, since nobody is messaging me (correction, Stranger just got into voice...), I'm just sitting here going through the Steam store checking out tons of games. Also watched the Mechwarrior trailer. FYI: 7 Days to Die seems to be VERY heavy on the crafting, and a quick shot of the server setup showed 15 players max...I believe. Posted by Cakedaddy on Jan. 21 2014,19:57
Why are you shopping instead of messaging people?
Posted by Leisher on Jan. 21 2014,21:56
QUOTE I have no idea what to recommend That's why. I was hunting for a game we could play. Now I know what we'll be playing tonight: Mechwarrior! Died and lost every game. Did about 150 damage on average, but it's fun. Matches are uber quick. Posted by Leisher on Jan. 23 2014,15:59
Awesomenauts might deserve a look.
Posted by Leisher on Jan. 24 2014,06:15
I tried Awesomenauts quickly when I got home yesterday, and it was surprisingly more fun than I would have guessed. To sum it up, it's League of Legends in 2D. Your team of four versus another team of four. Actually, now that I think about it, it might only be a team of three. Your goal is to knock down their towers, which you use minions to push towards, and then destroy their...sheet of glass? (That's what it looks like.) Throughout the game, you can heal and shop at your base. Also, there are three levels (lanes) at different heights. The shop sells you upgrades, health, and some special weapons. I should also note that there are apparently pro leagues for this game. I think we could dominate and be world champs ![]() Anyway, I've got two copies to give away, and TPR owns it as well. I won't hand them out now as Mechwarrior and Rust seem to be hitting their stride, but this is out there if we want to try something new one night. Posted by Leisher on Jan. 25 2014,12:54
Not to jinx it, but between Mechwarrior and Rust I think we're set for a while.

I honestly wouldn't mind checking out another free MMORPG, but which one? I'm personally "rusted out", so I'd prefer to avoid such a game. PA, Rocket League, MW:O, Payday are all installed on my system. I'd even be willing to look into GTA V as TPR says the multi is a lot of fun.
