< Insurgency > is making a comeback, but not as a HL2 MOD. . . They're releasing it as a stand alone game. Alpha/Beta access is being sold for $20 on steam right now. Will report when I've gotten a few hours in. . .

Played a couple hours last night, and I must say. . . . This game is INTENSE compared to the original HL2 MOD. Tons of changes, all of them positive. When playing, depending on what squad you pick, and which weapon kit you pick, you'll have access to at least 10 guns, sometimes more. At the start of the game, you'll have 10 "supply" points, which you use to build a kit. For example: the MP5K will remove 3 points, where the M4A1 will remove 5 points. . . You can sit and pick through all the weapons, armor, and weapon add-on's, each costing a different amount of points until you reach the full 10. For the weapons, you'll have options like armor piercing rounds, hallow points, 4x Zoom, RDS reticule, silencer, heavy barrel. . .etc There are several maps, each one a different game mode. . Push mode, one side defends, one pushes. Defending side has control of points A B and C, pushing side has a limited amount of spawn waves to capture all 3 defended points, gaining more waves each time they capture a point. Once a point is taken, it can't be taken back by the defenders. The other mode is a little cooler, which has 2 different size maps. One has 3 points for capture, and another has 5 points. Each team starts with an equal amount of points as the other team, and one neutral capture point in the middle. Each team also starts with 2 spawn waves. The point of the game is to either capture all of the points, or reduce the enemies spawn waves to zero. Your team gets one wave every time they capture a point. This game can last as long as an hour, or end immediately. . Just depends how tarded your team is. Two teams every game, Americans, and Insurgents. Both sides have different weapons, so far I've had more fun on the American team. The point of the game is realism. Bullets wizzing over your head cause massive suppression effects making it really really hard to see when someone is shooting at you, so the machine gunner now has a freaking purpose! Tactics are a must in this game, because if you do not coordinate with your team, you're going to get steam-rolled. When you die, you have no idea who shot you, or from where, so camping and hiding is now extremely viable. Snipers actually have a chance. No way to tell how many rounds are in a clip, no mini-maps, so learn the map quickly. No instant re-spawn's, so play to not die. . Zerg rushing will lose you a game very quickly. Bout all I can think of right now, I'm sure there are still things I'm missing. It's an early release, so the game isn't complete yet. Some bugs here and there, but none of them are really a big deal at all. 20 bucks gets you early release, which is a little more than half the full release price, no restrictions or anything like that, and when the game is complete and fully released, you'll already own it. So basically, you can have the game for half off, but you're beta testing it for us. . . . Fair deal in my eyes, totally worth it, 10 out of 10, I'll recommend it to anyone who loves the FPS realism. |
