Anyone ever play this?  I have seen it talked up in PC Gamer for several months, and I got some free in-game currency when I bought my recent video card, so I am downloading it to see what the fuck.

Ok.

worldoftanks.com

1.  It's free to play.

2.  It online multiplayer.

3.  Quick matches, less than 10 minutes each.  Usually 6ish.  This keeps games from dragging.

4.  You start out with 4 primitive, newbie tanks, one from USA, Germany, Soviet Union, and France.

5.  As you play you earn experience points and shit, and you cash these in for upgrades and more research.  The more you research, the better equipment and tanks you can buy.

6.  The way this game makes money is buying "gold" online which is a shortcut to getting research points/items.

7.  Gameplay is red v blue, random teams, on many maps.  After 30 games I just now saw a brand new one.  You win by killing all enemy tanks, or "capturing their flag" by having at least one of your tanks within 100 feet of their flag pole.

8.  Besides tanks there are very weak "Tank Killing" artillery with which you can lob shells from far away, but typically these things take one hit to kill.  Newbie tanks take 2-3 hits to kill, heavy 3-5, etc.

9.  Damage from hits is often localized, and your crewman can be wounded.  For example, you might lose a track and be immobilized for a few moments while your crew fixes it, or your gunner might sustain a wound and "barely be able to aim."  Just as tank parts can be upgraded, crew members become veterans over time and become better at what they do.

+++++

Have played a few hours of this game, and I still am lost with most of it because I have never stopped to read the Tankipedia.

I suspect this might be a good team strategy game, it is more like Counterstrike than Team Fortress.  Once your tank is dead you are out and spectating the rest of the game.

WoT is celebrating their 100,000,000th registered user.

Yeah...

When they celebrated their 60,000,000th it was revealed their high concurrent users was about 600k.

I think that number is impressive enough, do they really need to promote the clearly bullshit one?
