< Looks like a PC version is coming. >Anyone want my X-Box version? Posted by Paul on Feb. 08 2014,21:07
I've been playing a lot of GTA V online lately. It's wild. If you see a live player, about 75% of the people just try to kill you on sight. The others are busy making money, or are just goofing around (I fall into the latter category). Tonight some kid who sounded like a minor had his mic on while getting a lap dance at the strip club. Everybody in the game could hear him. He would say "Ooh la la!" and "Are those real?" a lot. (He's going to be a real Romeo some day.) He's also say, "I want you to come to my place" and "I'm going to do this every day!" quite a bit too. Finally some guy said, "Would you shut up?" a bunch of us started laughing. I said, "Dude, they are not real!" and someone else chimed in, "And she's not going home with you!" The kid didn't make a sound after that. I assume he quit the game. Good times! I'd never played any of the GTA series before. The map is very much based on Los Angeles. In fact, when I found the GTA version of the Capitol Records building I used my L.A. knowledge to drive straight to the observatory. They even have the hiking trail and tunnel at the (Griffith Park) observatory. From there I drove down the hill to see if the Greek Theater was there... yep, there was a GTA equivalent. I drove over the hill to see what they did with Burbank, but they made that a rural area, mostly desert. They did a great job making it like L.A. Posted by Leisher on Apr. 25 2014,08:54
< Petition for PC version has hit 700K. >Rumors swirling that they're working on PC, X-Box One, and PS4 versions of the game, all with new content. Rumored release dates are anywhere between June 13th and March 15th of next year. I want the game as well, and I never signed the petition. Considering the rest of their series is on Steam, does well there, started on the PC, and there's probably a million customers waiting for it, I think we'll see it hitting PC before the end of the year. Posted by Malcolm on Apr. 25 2014,09:11
Real developers make games for PCs. Pussies with training wheels on their compilers make games exclusively for consoles.

I've owned most of the consoles that have been released, but I was always primarily a PC gamer. However, the older I get the more I lose respect for console only players. They're such a huge part of what's wrong with the gaming industry, and they don't even realize it. They revel in their inferior graphics, "one controller fits all", limited choices, pay to play online services, and higher prices. We should start a church of the PC, and spread the word about the glory that can be found in PC gaming. Steam sales, no paying to play online, the biggest games on the planet and they're FREE, any controller you want, mods, etc. Posted by Malcolm on Apr. 25 2014,09:36
The only thing I'll give to the console industry is their likely jumpstart of the "home computer" industry. I do not mean laptop or desktop PCs, either.

I never said there weren't pros for console developers, nor did I even complete the list of cons.Note I said developers because most of your points are an issue for them, not the actual gamer. And oddly enough, folks who develop for PCs seem to be doing fine. More titles hit for PC than consoles. Weird... OS Updates? When's the last time you used a console? It can't be lately because almost every time you turn them on there's updating to be done. Hell, I put GTA V in my X-Box the other day (before I decided to wait for the PC version), and it had to DL 7GB worth of stuff before I could think about playing. Incompatible hardware. When it happens, it's a fair point, but definitely more of a developer problem than a gamer problem. Shifting graphics standards. This is a reach. Constantly improving technology versus technology that was outdated by several years during console design phase? No contest. Fragmented online gaming community. I don't get this one. Because everyone who owns a console plays the same game? More expensive hardware. The most popular game in the world can be played on a computer that costs the same as a console. On a PC I can adjust my graphics settings. I won't even address that final point. It's ridiculous. Posted by TheCatt on Apr. 25 2014,11:22
It's pretty fucking ugly. Try getting it near a TV in most households.

Well, I guess it'd be more accurate to say "doesn't exist" since those are just beta units / renderings.

You can put a computer next to a TV all you want. Unless you live with a woman. But to be fair, they want to hide the TV too. And honestly, even if you must hide the PC for strictly aesthetic reasons (because those outweigh shittier hardware, higher prices, pay to play online, not actually owning your games, etc.) it really isn't difficult. I think I moved my PC into the living room within a week of my ex moving out. I'm still playing GTAV daily on the XBox 360. I'm rich in the game because I do a lot of missions and I rarely buy things. Most people buy fancy cars, then fix them up, then sell them (getting only half of their money back) to buy more cars, which they fix up and then sell. I don't care about cars. Thinking of rearranging the living room to fit the desktop in there. Will require some serious Tetris skills.

Delayed to February 1st, and available for pre-order on Steam for $59.99.Really, $60? For a game that's over a year old? Yes, I'm aware they added a ton of new stuff, and the graphics will clearly be superior on the PC. (Plus, all the mods.) Am I paying for the shipping? How about the packaging materials? Hasn't Steam broken the gaming industry's pricing model? Don't successful F2P games like LoL, DOTA2, WoT, MW:O, etc. prove the same? Why are we being asked to pay the same price that console players paid a year ago, yet it costs them nothing to package and ship to us? Posted by Leisher on Jan. 22 2015,15:48
I just went to the Steam GTA V Community Hub to take a stand and post about how people need to skip buying this game at launch.I was VERY late to the party. Almost every thread is people bitching about the price. Good for us PC gamers! I'd buy the game right now at $40 to reward them for their hard work, like Borderlands, but they can go suck a fat one if they think I'm paying console prices. Posted by Malcolm on Jan. 22 2015,16:10
QUOTE I'd buy the game right now at $40 to reward them for their hard work, like Borderlands, but they can go suck a fat one if they think I'm paying console prices. The BL2, BL:PS, and WL2 are the only games I've bought right out of the gate in almost forever that cost more than $20. Posted by TPRJones on Apr. 21 2015,09:24
I bought the game for $60 this weekend. The group I usually game with is all in so I joined them. And I don't regret it. Of all the games I've paid that sort of price for, this one has been most worth the money. Haven't touched single player at all yet, only playing GTA Online so far. TPR's post has me torn. It's a game I know I want and will buy, but on principle I have to wait until that price tag drops. I refuse to pay full retail CONSOLE price for a digital download on a PC. Posted by TPRJones on Apr. 21 2015,15:45
I look at it as I'm going to get my money's worth out of it and they did a good enough job IMO to deserve the price tag. The online is where the fun is thickest so if I wait until it's on sale and my friends don't play it much anymore then the value will have dropped more than the price.Admittedly I didn't know all of that for sure in advance. But there were hints it was so. I rarely buy games full price, though. Posted by Leisher on Oct. 28 2015,10:13
FINALLY it's on sale. 33% off dropping the price to $40. Might be time to pull the trigger. Posted by Leisher on Nov. 02 2015,12:23
Do I buy GTA within the next 22 hours while it's still 33% off knowing that I'm playing Wasteland 2 currently, but rewarding Rockstar for dropping the price to an appropriate level?OR Do I wait and see if it's 33% off again during the Steam Christmas sale since I won't be playing it until then even if I buy it now and earn whatever trinkets are given out during that sale? Posted by Malcolm on Nov. 02 2015,12:36
Wait.
