< Registration here. >

I registered.

I did MDC as team name, Geoff Haisty as team organizer.

I'm not sure what the "team" thing means, but I signed up with 3 accounts, so that gets use close to the 5 person minimum.

I hope this isn't just another gay Facebook game since it has the Civ name on it... but who knows.

If Gordon signed up, I think that gives us 8 people.

Spread the word!

Ditto
Posted by GORDON on Feb. 28 2011,18:16
Played for about 3 minutes before I lost connection.
Posted by TheCatt on Feb. 28 2011,18:24
Started playing, it's a little busy at first, not entirely sure what I'm supposed to do.

Looks like it got overloaded and/or crashed a few minutes ago though

Posted by GORDON on Feb. 28 2011,18:27
I blame myself.
Posted by TheCatt on Feb. 28 2011,18:41
At least we're all on the same page.
Posted by GORDON on Mar. 01 2011,06:35
Game is still down.

It put me in Game 48.

Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 01 2011,06:41
I'm in Game 48 as well.
Posted by Leisher on Mar. 01 2011,10:39
Uhm...what am I missing? All I see is the Wiki and the registration page...
Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 01 2011,10:51
They sent out an email last night for the actual game for those who signed up in the group.

< Game >

But since it's been down since 9pm last night, you're not missing anything.

Posted by Leisher on Mar. 01 2011,11:01
Ah! I kept looking at the Wiki thinking "Where the hell is the "play" or "download" link?

Ok, I'll dig up the email tonight and see if I can get in.

I had just gotten on when it crashed.  I did it.

Just played another 45 seconds, then it crashed.

Alpha.

Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 01 2011,16:42
I played for about an hour, got to #8 in the "world"

Then Gordon logged in.

I joined the American colonies.  We're at war with the Mongols, so I sent some troops.

Also building a lot of food.

Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 01 2011,18:31
The game disconnects a lot.  I'm much more productive at food than production, so I make food, sell it at the market, to buy my production.  So far production/food are the same price in market.
Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 01 2011,19:11
I made it to #4, and was briefly the King of America.  Now I'm just a prince.
Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 03 2011,05:27
I had a back spams yesterday morning, so I spent a part of the day doped up and playing this game.

I found out how to improve my city layout, but also found out that the way to make food/production (the most desired resources int he game) is to just sit there and click little popups.  Doing that vastly outperformed my normal production.  So there's a heavy bias towards people with nothing better to do than sit and watch the screen.

I was king of America most of yesterday.  Kings apparently get more votes than others for policy (5) but I'm not sure what else it lets me do.  I think I can propose invading people.

Posted by Leisher on Mar. 03 2011,11:29
Hey Mr. King of America, how about some tips for your Union Jack friends?
Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 03 2011,11:47
Make whatever is the most expensive in the market, then sell it and buy what you want.
I only make food and production right now, I buy all my science.
1) People are happiest (and most productive) when living in/near trees/water.
2) People are also happiest living next to people with the same job.
3) Cluster things together for best productivity.
4) Visit my city to see how it's laid out.
5) Buy the luxury goods (incense, etc) below 100, sell above 150.  (I've seen them as low as 45, as high as 250).
6) One production enhancement building seems to be the way to go (I have 1 for food, 1 for production)

Don't get too big.  My people were more productive at 7 than they are at 8 cuz of population unhappiness.

Posted by Leisher on Mar. 03 2011,11:51
I'm the King of England!

How do I get folks to move in? I'd like to move my merchants closer to the market, and change their homes to workers, but nobody will move into the house I built next to the market.

Posted by GORDON on Mar. 03 2011,12:13
And I think America attacked us.
Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 03 2011,12:35
Just move their house, don't build a new one.
Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 03 2011,18:12
So... The American Colonies had a policy of "income tax" which increases merchants' gold gathering by 50%, in exchange for -1 happiness.

Well, the problem is that the production/food/science were all trading at 10x the value of gold, and happiness increases the production of those items.

So another player and I who realized this were like "Um WTF?  Why are we doing something dumb?"  and another player came back with "You cannot convince me that trickle down economics are good, no matter what."  And I'm like "Uh, wtf does that have to do with this game?"  Another player then tried to tell me that the taxes had led to us winning every era so far.  I replied back that it actually hampered us, since we could sell the other crap for gold, and be even further ahead.  Another player then replied "Well, we're still winning, so it doesn't matter."

It turns out at least 4 or 5 of these players know each other and joined together, and are liberal fucking idiots.

I was ready to start America 2.0.

But then, somehow, we managed to win the repeal vote thanks to other players in the alliance, by like a vote or two.

SteveG is part of America now, I think I saw.

Next time you're on... Visit my town, hover over one of my science houses, then click the big text bar that says something about a dowry on it.

You'll get a ton of science.

Not really enjoying this game.  Not sure how to play better, no one answers questions in-game, and whenever I try to play one of the minigames (best farmer, etc), "MarcC" is always there winning by a mile.  He must be at his computer 23 hours a day.
Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 05 2011,17:05
If you have any questions, I can always answer them.
Posted by GORDON on Mar. 05 2011,17:11
I think I don't enjoy these social-network games where you need to work with other people who almost always suck in one way or another.
Posted by Leisher on Mar. 05 2011,18:07
I was just about to log into it and thinking that it's not a lot of fun.

I'm actually having more fun with the mini-games.

Posted by GORDON on Mar. 06 2011,18:55
I deleted the link from my facebook page.  Just wasn't seeing the point.
Posted by GORDON on Mar. 28 2011,13:15
Anyone still playing?  Just curious.
Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 28 2011,14:23
I won the first game, played a little bit later, but.. no.
Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 28 2011,14:25
Just got an email that it's paused until furhter notice.

Thanks to all the players who played in the latest games of Civ World. They were some of the most exciting, most enthusiastic games we've yet seen, and it's all thanks to you. The last of these concluded over the weekend, and as you will no doubt have noticed, no active games are currently running. We've taken the game down while we put the finishing touches on a new version, providing many much-needed bug fixes and offering a range of new gameplay updates. The catalogue includes:

·         Significant improvement on the reversioning (aka "rubber banding") bugs
·         Cleaning up of allowed actions during the Join-Up Phase
·         New User Interface art for the Portrait Window and Taskbar
·         Domination victories now based on the number of battle victories
·         Culture medal awards returned to random pick
·         Corn equally fertile on plains as on grasslands
·         Lumber Mills available at the beginning of the game
·         New powers for the Political Advisor: veto any vote where unless the "yes" side has a 2:1 majority
·         "First to Research" Technology bonuses restored

Posted by GORDON on Mar. 28 2011,14:40
Yeah, that's what made me think of it.  How did you "win" the game?
Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 28 2011,15:56
Had the most fame points.  Used my wife's account, and a fake facebook account to help rig the market, which earned me enough that I was often king, and that civ i was king of won a lot.  Oh, I was also on painkillers from a backspasm for most of that week, so I had a lot of time at home in front of the computer.

Posted by TPRJones on Mar. 28 2011,16:11
Did you tell them about how you did it so they can try to adjust the game for it?

Um, no?

Oh, Leisher, Anna says "thanks for the birthday wishes" :)

Posted by TPRJones on Mar. 28 2011,18:10
I thought that was the point of an alpha, to get feedback from the users and fix the problems.

You're not a very nice person, are you?

Posted by TheCatt on Mar. 28 2011,18:13
Not really.

I was trying to see what the potential for multi-account abuse is.  It's pretty big, but not massive.
