Got this one off Steam a while back in one of their sales for $5. Completely worth it. The story has three individuals, a female thief, a warrior, and a wizard all getting trapped by a large crystal or gem. Their spirits or a manifestation of them are now traveling to free their actual bodies from the crystal. This is a side scroller in which you can jump to and from any character at any time. Each character has their own abilities: Thief - Shoot arrows, seems to be more agile and jumps higher/farther, and is able to use a grappling hook to latch onto things for climbing and swinging. Warrior - A brute that bashes and picks things up. He also has a shield. Mage - Has no offensive abilities. He's able to create blocks, planks, and a floating platform. I played the vast majority of the game as the Thief. She's the easiest and fastest to move, she's the best jumper, she has the grappling ability that opens up more of the boards, and she shoots arrows quickly. It's not even a contest between her and the other characters. The mage I only used when I needed to create something so I could access an area or secret. The warrior I only used to fight bats, break obstacles, and move the occasional heavy item in the way. Despite the obvious balancing issues, this game was a lot of fun. A very good distraction. Sure, play gets repetitive after a while, but the game ends just as boredom could nudge it's way into your gaming experience. Hidden throughout the game are green potions that represent experience for gaining levels and chests. The chests contain items that enhance your characters' abilities or protect them. The levels you can gain gives you ability points, one per level per character. These can be spent to allow your mage to make more block or planks, your thief to shoot faster or shoot flaming arrows, and your warrior to use a mace and charge. Again, the warriors additional stuff is mostly worthless. I never charged once, although while the mace is great, you can't use it while jumping, and the only time the warrior becomes vital is the last stage when he must break stuff...while jumping... Anyway, this was absolutely worth the $5, so if you see it at that price again, pick it up if you like the sound of what I described above. 5 out of 10. Posted by Cakedaddy on Apr. 20 2010,00:14
