Forum: Ultima Online Topic: TKV Status on Metropolis started by: GORDON Posted by GORDON on Oct. 12 2004,11:24
I've gotten a couple emails from my account on the Metro forums asking, so here's the deal:We have a couple reasons. The first is that we disagree with a lot of things being done to this so-called "UO 1999" server. A single red complains about gates on the arch in Buc's Den, and BAM... no gates within 5 tiles of that arch. A couple other people whine about getting tricked into going through a gate and ending up in a guard zone, and BAM... gate delays. 1 miner complains reds are gating in to the Minoc mines and killing him... and BAM Minoc mines are Trammalized. Don't even get me started on the highly exploited "newbie dungeon." This is NOT UO 1999. In essense, all of those changes, and more, are Trammie bullshit. The second issue we have is that we could deal with players with mental problems, but we draw the line when admins have so much hate inside of them that they make statements like, "God I hope North Korea just nukes all of the United States." That shit is unbalanced and psychotic. It makes me angry that I ever sent money to the server. We in TKV have lost all desire to do the TKV-thing on Metropolis. We are officially on "vacation." I wouldn't have so much of an issue with some of the stuff, if there was an equal amount of effort being dedicated toward fixing some non-pre-uor:99 stuff. Like some of the spells' effectiveness, weapon damage, and other stuff that I don't feel like digging up. They repeatedly talk about being true pre-uor:99, and they take steps away from it. In fact, they are following the same path that OSI did in 99/2000 by doing whatever it takes to bring new players on and keep them. The almighty subscription number is most important. Thus, Trammel. Blah. I appreciate the server, the admins' work, etc. However, I just disagree with the direction the server is going in. And much like I did with OSI, I'm stepping back to see if I want to continue with it.And the fact that certain admin(s) reveal political feelings for everyone to read about and even be offended by, then follow up with bannings (permanant or not) of anyone with an opposing view, is just wrong and I can't agree with that either. There´s some choice?Stop to play UO and play something else, or find a new shard. Or... play on trammel Metro. Posted by GORDON on Oct. 18 2004,08:34
My choice was to stop sending the assholes money. Zen spun it as, "well my words don't mean anything because the population is still growing," but that's not true, and now they have less money from us. So I guess Zen's words did have an effect.

It sounds like any iteration of UO is destined to go through the same process of Interesting. I think there's a lesson about running MMOGs in there somewhere. Posted by GORDON on Oct. 18 2004,18:04
Yeah. The people running them are stupid and insane. There's a reason they fired Garriott. Posted by Troy on Oct. 18 2004,19:11
Because he built a castle with UO money and hired small boys to be his "jesters" Posted by GORDON on Oct. 18 2004,19:19
Besides that. Posted by Kabup on Oct. 23 2004,12:52
What I was to say, Gordon, is: I like to play UO. And I like a somewhat aggressive game, not something like The Sims Online. So, if Metro is going down, as you say, where to play? There´s another good shard, or the option is: Forget, and find a new game? Posted by Cakedaddy on Oct. 24 2004,12:35
I don't think Metro is going down. It's just making a 180 degree turn from it's original goal. And that was to be/become a pre-uor:99 server. They STILL advertise this!! However, with the addition of Trammel dungeons, eventual statloss, changing items resource/price to force people in dungeons, etc, etc, etc, all in the name of attracting new players. . . they are abandoning the pre-uor:99 theme. They are following the same path that OSI took in late '99 early 2000. They are making changes to try to recruit/keep players insteading of keeping the not broken game in the state it was in before UOR was released. In other words, if you don't mind playing on a server that is NOT pre-uor:99, but some customized version of what some ex-UO player thinks UO should be, then Metro is the place for you. However, if you, like so many others, agree that pre-uor:99 UO was the best UO ever was, and probably ever could be, then Metro is NOT the place for you. And sadly, that place does not exsist, no matter how many servers claim they are 'it'. So, if you like Metro, and the plans they have for it. Stay there and enjoy it. If not, well, scan the lists of other servers out there and try to find one that gives you what you are looking for. Unfortunately, you won't find a true pre-uor:99 server. Even IPY is a joke. The 'biggest' and 'most popular true pre-uor server' is not. No horses? Ya, just like pre-uor. Their main advert thing on the UO lists has "Casino with blackjack and poker". You know, just like we had back in '99. GM run CTF tournaments. Oh man. Can't count the number of time I played in those back in '99!! not People are stupid. They KNOW what people want, but WON'T GIVE IT TO THEM!!! They get egos, and then think they can create a better world. However, they still sucker people into checking their servers by promising what everyone wants (pre-uor:99), but trying to win them over with their 'superior intelligence' and 'better customized' server. "Come play the way you want and how UO was meant to be!!!" they all promise. When you get there, you find it's really "well, it's not really pre-uor:99 because I'm smarter than everyone else and know what you REALLY want, and it's what we have here with all these customized rules and changes. Don't worry, you'll like it." I hate people. They are dumb. "I know you think you know what you want. But you are wrong. What you want is what I have for you right here. And if you don't like it, it's because you are a retarded Bush lover who should be nuked by North Korea. But I'll delete that last bit I just said because I want to project a kinder gentler me. Cause I have honor and integrity. So, I didn't really just say that, and here's more changes that will take us further away from where you want to be. But you'll like it so shut up and don't worry about it. P.S. send me money." Posted by Kabup on Oct. 31 2004,10:55
I have a problem.I don´t have time to play 24/7, so I can´t get skills fast enough to play well. I´ve spend the last 4 months on Metro, building some chars, and now the Metro is turning around, and making a peaceful server. This is not I want. Take a look. All the oldest guys are getting out, you don´t see them on the forums, or playing the game. TKV is a example. I don´t have choice, I´m going to IPY. :/ ´I hate people. They are dumb.´ Huh, this can meaning a lot of things. But keep the feet on the ground, and don´t start to shot them. Usually, this is a bad idea. Posted by Cakedaddy on Oct. 31 2004,14:31
You're not gonna find a 'better' environment at IPY. Only different. They don't make intelligent decisions either. If IPY is your other choice, stick with Metro. Skills go up faster there and you've got a start there. Switching to IPY where skills go up even slower will only be more aggrivating.

Until TKV gets around to setting up our own server, nobody is actually going to get it right.

Cakedaddy: Alright, I will stay on Metro, for awhile. You´re right, I was there, and I don´t like it. But the question remains, there´s no other good shard, anywhere? Gordon: Now you are talking what I want to hear. This is serious? Are you taking this work ahead? I think that UO is a older game, by now, and something better will arise. It´s old, but it´s a good game. Brittania is a nice place to play, sometimes, on a shard that´s not changing the rules all the time. Posted by Cakedaddy on Nov. 06 2004,16:03
1. Not that I've seen. But, that doesn't mean it's not out there. But if it is. . . it's hiding from me. 2. He's going to think I created a second ID here so I could ask him the same question. . . Ask him if he's started leaning C# yet! His answer will be about where his wife wants to vaction next or something. ;-) 3. And yes. UO is aging. Really showing it's age, actually. However, only in the graphics department. There has yet to be a game that matches UOs depth, immersability (is that a word?), etc, etc, etc. And because of that, people tollerate the lack of updated graphics. It may not look pretty, but it sure is hella fun to play. Assuming someone isn't changing things and making it a DUMB game to play with custom crap that doesn't help, of course! Now she's thinking Key West.Or Costa Rica. Posted by Kabup on Nov. 07 2004,03:26
You don´t need to know C# to make a shard. Zen doesn´t know, and he/she(?) is running Metro, isn´t?Just find someone to make the scripts. I´ve been on IPY about 3hours, and log out. Posted by Kabup on Nov. 21 2004,18:03
