Go a bit lazy and slipped up by visiting a country that might send him back. Honestly I would have just work out a deal sat in prison for the short period of time and then been free to go where ever I wanted. It doesn't matter the swiss won't send him here so nothing will come of it. Posted by TheCatt on Sep. 27 2009,13:19
Somehow I never knew this:QUOTE The 76-year-old director of "Chinatown," "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Pianist," whose pregnant wife Sharon Tate was butchered in their home by Charles Manson's cult followers in 1969, was one of the world's most famous fugitives.

Article says he's awaiting extradition to Cali, pending a few dozen appeals, of course. I don't think obama is going to want the heat that comes with all of this and since the US never even asked France if they would jail him themselves people are going to just make this go away. The victim already got cash from him and is asking that all charges be dropped. I can't seem to find how long his sentence is for? Posted by Malcolm on Sep. 28 2009,13:20
< More news >.Apparently, here's why he was taken into custody this time ... QUOTE Polanski had not been arrested earlier, they added, because only this time was it announced in advance that he would be coming for the Zurich film festival and thus the U.S. arrest mandate could contain specific information. Although the following makes life interesting ... QUOTE A citizen of Poland and France, Polanski on Monday received diplomatic backing from both governments, which in tandem asked Switzerland to release him on bail immediately pending resolution of the extradition dispute. In addition, Kouchner and Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski of Poland announced they were writing Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton seeking her intervention for an immediate release on bail and consideration of a clemency decree from President Obama. We've already pissed off Poland once & we offend France simply by existing. Let's see how he handles this & keeps his "international" approval rating up there. Posted by Malcolm on Sep. 28 2009,13:21
(WSGrundy @ Sep. 27 2009,22:28) QUOTE I can't seem to find how long his sentence is for? If he's started serving from day one, he would've been out & done by '86 or so. Posted by TPRJones on Sep. 28 2009,15:24
If he's been living in France all this time, that might be punishment enough.

QUOTE We have learned the astonishing news of Roman Polanski’s arrest by the Swiss police on September 26th, upon arrival in Zurich (Switzerland) while on his way to a film festival where he was due to receive an award for his career in filmmaking. His arrest follows an American arrest warrant dating from 1978 against the filmmaker, in a case of morals. Filmmakers in France, in Europe, in the United States and around the world are dismayed by this decision. It seems inadmissible to them that an international cultural event, paying homage to one of the greatest contemporary filmmakers, is used by the police to apprehend him. By their extraterritorial nature, film festivals the world over have always permitted works to be shown and for filmmakers to present them freely and safely, even when certain States opposed this. The arrest of Roman Polanski in a neutral country, where he assumed he could travel without hindrance, undermines this tradition: it opens the way for actions of which no-one can know the effects. Roman Polanski is a French citizen, a renown and international artist now facing extradition. This extradition, if it takes place, will be heavy in consequences and will take away his freedom. Filmmakers, actors, producers and technicians - everyone involved in international filmmaking - want him to know that he has their support and friendship. On September 16th, 2009, Mr. Charles Rivkin, the US Ambassador to France, received French artists and intellectuals at the embassy. He presented to them the new Minister Counselor for Public Affairs at the embassy, Ms Judith Baroody. In perfect French she lauded the Franco-American friendship and recommended the development of cultural relations between our two countries. If only in the name of this friendship between our two countries, we demand the immediate release of Roman Polanski. < List of some people who signed. > Kevin Smith's tweet on it: QUOTE "Look, I dig ROSEMARY'S BABY; but rape's rape. Do the crime, do the time"

(TheCatt @ Oct. 03 2009,13:43) QUOTE This extradition, if it takes place, will be heavy in consequences and will take away his freedom. That's the fucking point. Heavy in consequences? Wtf? So what's their ultimate threat if he's not released? They won't make any more films? Oh, dash it all. Posted by TheCatt on Oct. 03 2009,13:07
I'm officially boycotting Polanski, and any person who signed that petition. (unless she's hot and naked)

So I would assume the people who signed this treaty wouldn't sign anything calling Bush/Cheney war criminals because war might not be moral wrong to some people. For that matter no law can exists because they are all based on what we think is right or wrong. Posted by WSGrundy on Oct. 03 2009,16:35
I am surprised that this seems to be going the way the US Justice Dept. wants it to. I just felt that there would be such an outcry from the psychos that Obama or someone in the US wouldn't want the bad pub and would just say "It was 30 years ago lets just be done with it."I still would not be shocked at all if he did no time in the US or at all but him going to prison seems much more likely to me then it did in the past. QUOTE I just felt that there would be such an outcry from the psychos that Obama or someone in the US wouldn't want the bad pub and would just say "It was 30 years ago lets just be done with it." According to the article linked here, people in Hollywood, France, and the liberal MSM are realizing just how unpopular support for Polanski is with the rest of the planet. No way does Obama step up to pardon him unless it's a midnight pardon (end of term). Him releasing a child molester before re-election essentially loses the election for him and he knows that. So do the other liberal politicians. And Woody Allen?!? HA!!! Raise your hand if you're shocked that one child molester is defending another. Posted by WSGrundy on Oct. 03 2009,21:26
Has anyone seen a time table as to when we will know what is happening either way? I have seen that his appeal will take weeks but is that 2 or 12? Are there other appeals in Switzerland after that? Do the Swiss have to decide if they are sending him to the US and then he appeals?

There's a set period of time where we have to request his extradition. Probably 30-60 days. I'm sure some appeals could stall this shyte for quite some time, though. QUOTE Mr Mitterrand, 62, nephew of former president Francois Mitterrand, revealed he had hired 'young boys' for sex in Thailand in his autobiography four years ago. The Bad Life by Frederic Mitterrand Mitterrand's 2005 book 'The Bad Life' has caused controversy only since the minister's defence of Roman Polanski He wrote: 'The profusion of very attractive and immediately available young boys puts me in a state of desire that I no longer need to hinder nor hide... as I know that I will not be refused. 'I got into the habit of paying for boys. All these rituals of the market for youths, the slave market, excite me enormously.' But political opponents on the Left and far Right have seized afresh on his revelations after he publicly defended Oscar-winning film director Roman Polanski, arrested last month on charges of sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977. The ensuing storm has led to calls for Mr Sarkozy to sack Mr Mitterrand from his conservative UMP party. Socialist Arnaud Montebourg said yesterday: 'It is impossible that a minister representing France can encourage violation of his own international commitments to fight sexual tourism.' Mr Mitterrand said earlier this week that he is not a paedophile and uses the term 'boys' loosely. Last night the openly gay minister told viewers of France's TF1 TV channel: 'It was an error yes, but not a crime, not even a serious mistake. [b]'Let anyone who has not committed this kind of mistake cast the first stone - among all the people watching this tonight, who among them has not done something like this at least once?'[b] I'm guessing most people haven't gone overseas to sleep with little boys.
