< http://www.foxnews.com/politic....estnews >QUOTE But with classes underway, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs telling school officials there will be a six- to eight-week delay, most students who signed up for the new bill don't know when to expect their money. On Monday, the Veterans Affairs Web site showed 211,251 veteran applications for financial aid still pending. At this time last year, there were 43,522. Anyone noticing a trend? (TheCatt @ Aug. 27 2009,19:34) QUOTE Government's getting more efficient and helpful? QUOTE UI junior Jesse Boland, who also enrolled for the Post-9/11 GI Bill, said he will have to use money from his savings in the meantime But he isn't exactly shocked about the delay. "I've been in the military for a while, so I'm not totally surprised by the backlog," he said. "I expected it." The next time someone asks me why I didn't "take advantage" of the opportunity the GI bill presented folk, this shyte is getting brought up. Posted by GORDON on Aug. 27 2009,19:31
As for me, the GI Bill was the best investment I ever made. Paid $1200 for it, and over the 10 years after I got out I got about $10k back. But then my GIB payments were always on time under Clinton and Bush :-D.Maybe second best investment. Also made a shitload off the house I bought when I was 22. |
