< Scalia's dead > and they're picking over his office like dwarves fighting over a dead dragon's gold.

QUOTE Marcus is surely right that tables can turn. What she leaves out is the simple, glaring, fact that the tables are turning on Democrats who've been playing outrageous games with the appointment process for a quarter century. When Robert Bork was defenestrated by Joe Biden, despite Biden's having said he would have no choice but to vote for someone so well-qualified, he was setting the table for payback. When Harry Reid pulled the trigger on the nuclear option (on lower court appointments) he was warned that this would come back to haunt him. When Democrats disgustingly blocked Miguel Estrada from the bench solely because he was a Hispanic, they set the table to be turned. When Barack Obama voted to filibuster Alito, he set the table to be turned.
Cry me no tears now that Republicans are finally putting their shoulders to the table. -- Jonah Goldberg Posted by Malcolm on Feb. 17 2016,18:10
The republicans: the reality TV star party.

I don't think the republicans will stick to their guns on this any more than they have anything else, so it doesn't matter. We're going to get a transgendered female lesbian woman of color on the SupCourt who took 5 tries to pass the bar and has been a judge for 3 years.

(TPRJones @ Feb. 17 2016,21:01) QUOTE Hell, if you are going that route why not just skip straight to Andy Dick and call it a day. Because a few times pauly made me laugh with him instead of at him. Posted by Malcolm on Feb. 18 2016,10:20
< The right > starts off with its usual placid tone:QUOTE The conservative Judicial Crisis Network announced Thursday that it is spending at least $1 million on a radio, TV and digital advertising campaign that urges the Senate to block anyone President Obama nominates to replace Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia Yep, that's certainly taking the nominees on their merits. QUOTE "This isn’t about Republicans or Democrats it’s about your voice," a female narrator says in one ad."You choose the next president. The next president chooses the next justice." Get me some of what you're smoking. Posted by GORDON on Feb. 19 2016,05:15

Why does Mitch McConnell look like a sad drunk who's wife, dog, and pickup just died, and he's mourning for the rest of time by listening to Hank Williams, Sr. songs on a frequency only he can hear?

< More >.QUOTE More than four in five Republicans believe the Supreme Court vacancy left by the death of Justice Scalia should be filled by the next president, that poll found, and as many Democrats, 77 percent, think Mr. Obama should choose Justice Scalia’s successor. Over all, 47 percent of Americans say Mr. Obama should make the pick and 46 percent say he should not, the poll shows. No partisanship here. |
