Yeah, I liked Wendy's comeback.

If the shitty website would load...

I still prefer a flame broiled Whopper over any other fast food, but Wendy's is my second choice for a burg.
Posted by TPRJones on Jan. 25 2016,12:24
Do y'all not have Whataburger or Chic-Fil-A up there?I mean I like the Whopper as well, but I can't see how it can even be in the same ballpark as Whataburger or Chic-Fil-A. Posted by Malcolm on Jan. 25 2016,12:38
I wouldn't be caught dead in any of these joints.
Posted by TPRJones on Jan. 25 2016,12:56
80% of my food comes out of a window.

No Whataburger, and the closest CFA is a 25 minute drive, vs. 12 minutes for everything else. I can fuck me up some CFA, granted. But for burgs BK is my fave. Posted by GORDON on Jan. 25 2016,13:10

I've never liked BK, for whatever reason. That being said, I rarely get burgers in fast food restaurants. Hardees about once a year.

(TPRJones @ Jan. 25 2016,14:56) QUOTE 80% of my food comes out of a window. I never get fast food. I occasionally get restaurant fare from a bar or table, like < tonight > before Sabbath. QUOTE If you die any time soon we are going to take your corpse to all these places and stage pictures like you were taking selfies there. 1) You assume I haven't planned ahead. 2) You assume someone will find my corpse. (GORDON @ Jan. 25 2016,15:09) QUOTE No Whataburger ... But for burgs BK is my fave. Next time you are in the south see if you can find a whataburger. You won't think of BK as being the best after that. Posted by TPRJones on Jan. 25 2016,14:39
Although now that I think on it, the Steakhouse Thickburger at Carls Jr is also better than the Whopper. I had forgotten about that one. But it's the only burger I've had at Carls that is good enough to pass that bar.

That's weird.I used to work at a Hardee's back in high school. It was nothing at all like what a Carls Jr is like now. Although that was pretty long ago. Posted by TheCatt on Jan. 25 2016,15:28
(TPRJones @ Jan. 25 2016,18:20) QUOTE That's weird. I used to work at a Hardee's back in high school. It was nothing at all like what a Carls Jr is like now. Although that was pretty long ago. Hardee's was bought in 1997 by Carl's Jr, over time they converted Hardee's menu/signage, etc to reflect Carl's Jr, but kept the name. The best thing about Hardee's when I was a kid: Their biscuits. They were the only place to get them way back when, and they were delicious. I remember someone taking me to McDonalds and telling me that the Egg McMuffin was just like a biscuit. Liars. Posted by TPRJones on Jan. 25 2016,16:16
That's just evil.Biscuits make up about 25% of my food intake. Carls Jr biscuits are in the acceptable range, but not strictly speaking "good". BK & McD are not. Posted by TheCatt on Jan. 25 2016,16:20
Bojangles are probably the best fast food biscuits. I enjoy Hardee's biscuits. McD's is "meh" at best. Where do you get your biscuits? Posted by TPRJones on Jan. 25 2016,16:25
Various places. I have breakfast randomizer that I roll each morning before heading to work to find out where I'll stop on the way, and there are frequently biscuits involved.I think for fast food around here Whataburger has the best biscuits, with Chic-Fil-A being a close second. The "Biscuit Taco" at Taco Bell is by far the worst. That thing is a crime against nature. Posted by Leisher on Jan. 25 2016,18:11
I hate biscuits.

This thread sucks as I sit here trying to convince myself how satisfying that grilled chicken salad was that I had for dinner.

I happily am not a fan of Egg McMuffins either. Although I do like English muffins. Maybe I've just had bad biscuit experiences my whole life? Keep in mind that I lived up North most of my life, so by the time I got down South I wanted nothing to do with any biscuits. Posted by TheCatt on Jan. 26 2016,07:08
Come down, I'll take you to the best biscuit places around.
Posted by Leisher on Jan. 26 2016,07:49
I'd like to point out that my exposure to biscuits during my childhood was basically Bob Evans. BBQ and such weren't big deals back in the day. Now you can't throw a stick without hitting a BBQ joint or a fucking Mexican restaurant. (Fuck them) Posted by TPRJones on Jan. 26 2016,07:49
There's a place down here called Kelly's that makes a biscuit that's six inches across and absurdly flaky and tender. It's madness.
Posted by GORDON on Jan. 26 2016,08:13
BE biscuits aren't terrible. They are just soft, flaky bread. Sounds like you have some mental issue with them.
Posted by Leisher on Jan. 26 2016,09:42
I've always considered biscuits to be hard, dry pieces of bread. So yeah... Posted by GORDON on Jan. 26 2016,09:47
(Leisher @ Jan. 26 2016,12:42) QUOTE I've always considered biscuits to be hard, dry pieces of bread. So yeah... You're describing hardtack. That isn't supposed to be good. Biscuits are supposed to be eaten within 7 minutes of leaving the oven. Posted by TheCatt on Jan. 26 2016,11:12
(Leisher @ Jan. 26 2016,12:42) QUOTE I've always considered biscuits to be hard, dry pieces of bread. So yeah... Dear Lord, man, you don't even know what a biscuit is. This must be how TPR feels when I talk about brisket. Posted by Leisher on Jan. 26 2016,12:00
All the brisket I've found, even down south, sucks. Best one I've ever had in my life was one my brother-in-law smoked. It was his first attempt ever. Subsequent attempts have been less successful. But that first one was the shit. Back to biscuits, I remember ordering BE's biscuits and gravy once and thinking "the gravy must be here to add moisture to these terrible biscuits." Hell, the only places I can even think of that sells them around here is BE and KFC. I'm not a fan of cornbread either... Posted by TPRJones on Jan. 26 2016,12:03
Catt: Yes. And I'm right there with you on Leisher + biscuits, too.Leisher: While they are nothing like real southern biscuits, have you never even been to a Red Lobster with their cheddar bay "biscuits" that are warm and fluffy and soft? While their flavor profile is not the same as the sorts of biscuits we are referring to here, the texture is supposed to be similar. QUOTE ...KFC... Those are not biscuits. Those are pucks of evil. Posted by TPRJones on Jan. 26 2016,12:15
As analogy, if KFC is your touchstone then what you've done is like someone watched the Star Wars Christmas Special and used that as the basis to decide they don't like science fiction.
Posted by Leisher on Jan. 26 2016,12:42
I know I've eaten biscuits at places other than KFC and BE's, but I can't think of where. And honestly, if all biscuits you've ever eaten are dry and most of the time seem stale or overcooked because they're hard, would you like them? Would you go clamoring for them? For the record, I also don't eat tofu, rice cakes, and any seafood that smells fishy. Posted by GORDON on Jan. 26 2016,17:30
Reading this thread sucks as I sit here trying to convince myself that the 4 meatballs and glass of water that I had for dinner was really satisfying.

For my purposes "weigh-in" for the week happens on Friday, so only a little ahead of the pace. And that's fine.I'm going to celebrate by actually eating a noon luncheon, today. Usually it is just a protein shake (shut up) about mid-morning. |
