(GORDON @ Jan. 03 2016,14:23) QUOTE Reminds me of this. < http://www.history.com/news....ars-ago > They were heroes, though. Let's see if he holds out half as long. That also didn't start out as a circle jerk for a couple firebugs. QUOTE The occupation began with a peaceful protest in which more than 100 people marched through downtown Burns to protest the prison sentence of two ranchers convicted of arson, Dwight Hammond, 73, and Steven Hammond, 46, who were to report to prison in California after a federal judge ruled that the sentences they had served for arson were not long enough under federal law. And they didn't threaten use of force. QUOTE However, in an interview with The Oregonian earlier on Saturday evening, Mr. Bundy and his brother said they would not rule out violence if law enforcement officers attempted to remove them from the building. They ought to ask all the Waco and Ruby Ridge survivors how well that worked out. Posted by Alhazad on Jan. 04 2016,18:24
Bull shit.I came in here hoping a flock of actual loons had taken over an office. ![]() Posted by Malcolm on Jan. 05 2016,19:14
At least someone caught my double entendre.

QUOTE That also didn't start out as a circle jerk for a couple firebugs. It's interesting that you're derogatory about the accused. You wage a perpetual war against law enforcement, yet here you are taking their word for it... Just sayin' ![]() Saw this article today linked from...I think Twitter? I don't follow ultra right wing folks though, so I'm not sure. Anyway, it's clearly on a right wing site, but it's well written with links to resources and such. Here's the link if you want some background on what's going on even if it's one sided: < Background on the situation. > If half that story is true, I wouldn't call the ranchers firebugs or the militiamen loons. It's curious that while this is going on the country is focused on how the government isn't doing anything about whitey holding a protest or people are calling them loons, meanwhile there's a one sided 10 part series on Netflix that has folks signing a petition to release a convicted murderer. NOTE: I have not seen the series, although have heard from multiple sources that serious misconduct went on during the investigation, but that < the documentary also left out key things > that would have painted the convicted guy in a bad light and made him look far guiltier than the series did without. I don't know if those ranchers should be in jail or if the militia people staging this protest are wrong or right. I don't know if that guy in the documentary is guilty or not. I do know that I find it fascinating that a group of people staging a protest over what they claim is governmental abuse of power are getting no love from the press or public while a guy who clearly is a creep (dude dunked a live cat in gas and set it on fire as a kid and molested his mentally challenged friend/nephew/whatever), guilty or not, is getting love from everywhere. Anyway, I've got an uncle who is a member of the Oath Keepers, which is a militia. I consider him nuts, but not crazy nuts. He's very right wing, obviously, and always talks big about defending the constitution and yada yada yada, yet I don't see his ass heading out to Oregon. This whole thing reminds me of parallels with UFOs and how people were always treated in that regard. Tell someone you saw a UFO in previous years, and you'd be labeled crazy. Official stories were always about swamp gas and weather balloons even when non-government scientists were calling "bullshit" on such explanations. Attitudes about that have changed, but it's because our knowledge about the universe has changed. The smartest man on the planet has said alien life probably exists. We've found evidence of life or previous life off the planet. For a presidential candidate to suggest we've probably been visited and not be immediately laughed out of the race is a HUGE change in public perception on UFOs since the 1950s. But has that incredulous attitude we used to assign to UFO stories shifted to anti-government stories? Are we a defeated people? Have we been beaten down so much and had so many rights trampled upon that we immediately assume anyone fighting against the government is a nut job? Are we scared of speaking up? Has the MSM helped to contribute to an environment where when someone suggests the government is wrong about something, they're immediately labeled as wrong or crazy? I don't know. I don't know if I'm right, wrong, onto something, or if I'm a loon myself. I just know that our forum's most anti-establishment resident, who hates all things of authority, immediately called the militia men, standing up against the government for what they believe is right and invoking the Constitution, "loons". He also said the two guys, who allegedly set a successful backfire to protect their property, they're defending were "firebugs". Maybe he simply didn't read into it and was just posting a big news story. But isn't it also possible that we, as a people, are being conditioned to react a certain way to stories like this as people used to be conditioned to react when they heard about UFOs or Communists or Republicans or Liberals, etc.? Hell, after typing all that I don't even want to hit the "Add Reply" button below, but you must understand I'm not passing judgment on anyone in either case I cited or on anyone's comments. I'm simply questioning what we're told, how, and why we choose to believe them. Nobody gave a shit about that convicted murderer until a Netflix documentary was released about him. If he was the one holded up in a ranch in Oregon demanding justice wouldn't he be the loon? If a documentary had come out about these firebugs, would they be getting "justice" thanks to the public being outraged? Posted by Malcolm on Jan. 06 2016,10:18

Those dudes were talking about aliens that could hold a conversation while jamming a probe up your ass after paralyzing you in your sleep in preparation for a kidnapping. They weren't going on about microbial life. I'm not counting complete nut jobs. I don't think the homeless guy Kramer hired to pull his rickshaw that kept saying "the government!" has any sort of legit complaint. And Hillary saying she thinks we've been visited doesn't suggest microbes fell to Earth, but that an intelligent species swung by for a happy meal. Posted by Malcolm on Jan. 06 2016,10:30
QUOTE And Hillary saying she thinks we've been visited doesn't suggest microbes fell to Earth, but that an intelligent species swung by for a happy meal. Earth's been around for 4.5 billion years. That's plenty of time for some advanced species to do a fly-by and come to the conclusion we're not worth talking to. It's nigh impossible to contradict that theory. I've yet to see hard evidence that man is the only sentient species in the entire universe. Posted by Leisher on Jan. 06 2016,10:44

It's nigh impossible to contradict that theory. I've yet to see hard evidence that man is the only sentient species in the entire universe. I'm not sure what your point is? I'm in no way arguing that UFOs aren't real or folks who claim to have seen one are nuts. Quite the opposite. I'm simply pointing out how Hillary would have been run out of town for suggesting such a thing even 20 years ago, and comparing that sort of anti-UFO thought process with today's "white, right wing, militia" perception. 20 years ago during the heyday of Bubba? No way.

I still don't think UFOs were as accepted then, but definitely not in the 80s. Ask ET. So make it 30 years. My point remains. Posted by Malcolm on Jan. 13 2016,11:31
< Group still > there.QUOTE It's interesting that you're derogatory about the accused. You wage a perpetual war against law enforcement, yet here you are taking their word for it... Missed this before. They're more than accused. QUOTE The 2001 Hardie-Hammond Fire began, according to Probation Officer Robb, when hunters in the area witnessed the Hammonds illegally slaughter a herd of deer. ... Later, Steve's nephew Dusty Hammond testified that his uncle told him to start lighting matches and "light the whole countryside on fire." Dusty also testified that he was "almost burned up in the fire" and had to flee for his life. That's one. But maybe his nephew is in on the gov't conspiracy against these two... QUOTE The 2006 Krumbo Butte Fire started out as a wildfire, but several illegal backburns were set by the Hammonds with the intent to protect their winter feed. The backfires were set under the cover of night without warning the firefighting camp that was known to be on the slopes above. According to the indictment, the fires threatened to trap four BLM firefighters, one of whom later confronted Dwight Hammond at the fire scene after having moved his crews to avoid the threat. Two days later, Steve Hammond threatened to frame a BLM employee with arson if he didn't stop the investigation. Let's even assume the potential frame up was a total lie and he did no such thing. There's still no possible way to call that anything except arson. They're lucky someone didn't die. Posted by thibodeaux on Jan. 13 2016,12:54
I haven't been following this, BUT:I've got a facebook friend, he's a hardcore liberal. He's also a pretty talented musician, and he writes parody songs and sends them to liberal radio talk shows (I think there is still one, some lesbian or something). Anyway, we're FB friends but I've basically "hidden" his feed. I checked it today and it's funny. On Sunday he posted: "Today marks one week of America not giving a shit about those people in Oregon." But if you look at his feed for the previous week...it was all he talked about. Song parodies, parody commercials, etc. Posted by Leisher on Jan. 27 2016,07:05
< 1 dead, 7 arrested. >They were pulled over on the way to a rally. Their spokesman is the one that was shot dead. The others claim it was an evil act of murder, but considering the gun fight and the fact that the other 7 weren't executed and were just arrested. Well, I struggle to believe they just targeted the one guy who wasn't even the leader. There are still others are the wildlife refuge, no word on if they're surrendering or not. QUOTE "I am pleased that the FBI has listened to the concerns of the local community and responded to the illegal activity occurring in Harney County by outside extremists," Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., said in a written statement. "The leaders of this group are now in custody and I hope that the remaining individuals occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge will peacefully surrender so this community can begin to heal the deep wounds that this illegal activity has created over the last month." Did you get that? He's pleased the FBI listened to the concerns of the community and now the "deep wounds" caused by this "illegal activity" can be healed. Funny how this elected representative of the people misses the point: QUOTE Many sympathize with his criticism of federal land management policies of public lands but opposed the refuge takeover.

< Well >, if he'd just followed every single order the cop issued without question, he might not be dead.QUOTE Finicum, Bundy and four others were pulled over on U.S. Route 395, a law enforcement official told CNN. According to The Oregonian, they were headed to the city of John Day, where they planned to participate in a community meeting set up by local residents. Everyone obeyed orders to surrender except Finicum and Ryan Bundy, Ammon Bundy's brother, the official told CNN. Normally, I'd suspect the cops shot first. In this case, however, the other party is equally batty. Posted by Malcolm on Jan. 28 2016,10:12

QUOTE Friends and neighbors can get off social media and sit down over a cup of coffee and talk out their differences. What does it matter what the medium of discussion is? We can do the same thing over social media if we decide to do so. This statement was made by someone who doesn't "get" technology. Posted by Malcolm on Mar. 08 2016,11:09
