< Their black female CEO is being called racist. >

Her comment:
QUOTE
"Just today we met with a supplier and the entire other side of the table was all Caucasian males. That was interesting," Brewer said. "I decided not to talk about it directly with [the supplier's] folks in the room because there were actually no female, like, levels down. So I’m going to place a call to him."

Eh.

On one hand, I don't think anything she said was wrong. She, clearly, benefits from diversity, so why wouldn't she be a champion of it? Plus, it's not like diversity is a bad thing. It can be invaluable in helping corporations make decisions. If you're selling purses to black women and your board is all straight white males, what the fuck do they know about their target market?

On the other hand, how about hiring the best folks for the job despite their skin color or sex?

Fundamentally, I think that judging people by the color of their skin is wrong.  She judged people on the color of their skin.

And, mathematically, groups of all white people are going to happen, assuming completely random hiring processes in terms of race/gender versus available pools.

How did the board of white dudes get into the purse biz in the first place?  Hell, I bet even some dumb honkies are smart enough to hire a decent marketing firm.

Fuck off.  You weren't there during the hiring process and those might've been the best candidates they had show up at their door.

I sure as fuck do.  She's assuming that unless a group has some magical racial/ethnic balance, it's inherently flawed.  Fuck that sanctimonious presumption.  Does she think there aren't enough Asians coaching NBA teams, too?

Indeed.  Whether or not you can do your job is related to skill.

Well, I was making up that example, but I do agree that they could hire a marketing firm. However, it'd be cost effective to simply have people on staff with the proper input. I mean, their input would be invaluable during design through marketing.

I get that, and I think I might agree with you both at this point. However, it does show a reason to have diversity, as it clearly helps you appeal to other diverse companies...with racist CEOs?  :D

So...does she still have her job because she's a black woman? Because had a white man complained about a group of minority executives, he'd be gone before the article was published.
