< Nice one, fucktards >.

Lockett had been declared unconscious 10 minutes after the first of three drugs in the state's new lethal injection combination was administered Tuesday evening. Three minutes later, he began breathing heavily, writhing, clenching his teeth and straining to lift his head off the pillow. Officials later blamed a ruptured vein for the problems with the execution, which are likely to fuel more debate about the ability of states to administer lethal injections that meet the U.S. Constitution's requirement they be neither cruel nor unusual punishment.

Why is this shit so complicated?  Ah, because states think they're above the law.

Missouri and Texas, like Oklahoma, have both refused to reveal their sources and both of those states have carried out executions with their new supplies.

So you want to continue to legally murder people, but you're not revealing where or who you get chems from?  Sounds legit.

Why is a bullet to the back of the head when they're not expecting it less humane than a needle?

Tell them they're being execute in a week, and then that night while they're sleeping, sneak in a one shot them.

No pain. Instant death. No awareness of their own fate about to occur.

Back in the day when a firing squad needed to consist of human beings, I can sort of see the issue.  They could all decide to be assholes and aim for someone's balls.  However, we have drones that can launch missiles from thousands of feet in the air and hit targets on the ground.  I think a fifty foot headshot wouldn't be an issue, particularly if the prisoner is doped up beforehand.  You'd feel very little, certainly less than the amateur hour junior chemistry lab setup some places are going with now.

I said almost this exact thing in a Fark thread last night.

Fallin said in a statement Thursday that “it became apparent” during discussions with prison officials last week that the Department of Corrections used potassium acetate — not potassium chloride, as required under the state’s protocol — to execute Charles Frederick Warner in January

Holy fuck.  Potassium chloride is the thing that causes cardiac arrest.  Potassium acetate is what they used to preserve Lenin's corpse.  Only a fucking moron with zero chemical knowledge or a sadist could have made this error.
