Taxi drivers in U.S. make median $33k/yr after all the cab company bullshit like 500% markups on credit card processing fees. Starting drivers who rent their cars make maybe $8/hr and run 12-hr shifts. Uber drivers make $15+ per hour on a part-time job, or more if they go full-time.Taxi companies should be dismantled with a woodcutter's hatchet, but you can't really expect the drivers not to fight for their rice bowl -- especially recent immigrants with few prospects.
