< Video about the election. >

Basically, a white candidate used marketing to make black voters in his district think he was black to beat a black incumbent who has been in the office for 24 years.

He won.

The incumbent says he was disgusted by the tactic and thinks it's bad for democracy. Really?

As opposed to having people vote based on the color of your skin? Or is it worse than people voting for you despite obviously knowing nothing about you?

QUOTE
"He never put out to voters that he was white," Austin said in a statement to the Houston Chronicle. "This is one of the few times a white guy has pretended to be a black guy and fooled black people."

That's simply hilarious.  What's he implying with these words?

- He was an incumbent for however many years and all his constituents wanted was "some black dude?"
- White people can't govern blacks?
- There were previous attempts at this sort of thing involving others that the black community found out about?
- He's done such a shitty job for the past two decades, being black is enough to get him ousted?
