In an unprecedented move, Pope Francis reached out to atheists and agnostics, telling them that God will "forgive" them as long as they behave morally and live according to their consciences...

Fuck you.

You've got quite the mad on for this new pope.

I don't see what you see. I see a guy telling folks who don't believe in religion to just behave and it'll all work out for them.

Not sure how that makes him an asshole.

1) He's assuming atheists and agnostics give a shit about being "forgiven."  I may as well announce that the collective spirit of humanity has forgiven the Catholic Church for all the various douchey things they've done over the centuries.

2) Being forgiven implies you've done something wrong and you need "saving."

Well.... who cares?  You think what you think, he thinks what he thinks, and he is even saying what you think is cool, just whatever, be nice.

It is rather condescending of him, and a bit of a dick move.

But he's the Pope, that's his job.

Well.......  I usually don't care when people I don't care about condescend to me, because it doesn't affect my life at all.  I don't have a chip on my shoulder over the catholics... because I wasn't raised catholic (ha).

I think they are harmless if a little wierd, and at least as a group they haven't been advocating killing non-catholics for a few hundred years.  This guy actually seems to remember that individual humans exist, and he goes out of his way to make people happy.  He's already better than a majority of people in the world.

I think if you want to take it as a personal insult, you will, and honestly, maybe you should lighten up a bit because I don't think that was his intention.

After all, he basically just said, "you don't need to go to church to get to heaven", which might be bad for business...

Long as people keep giving them money, they don't care if they show up to some building once a week.
