Well, that's like, your opinion, man.

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th images are more insulting to pizza than the kind being hated on.

I like pineapple on pizza. Although I would never do that to an actually good pizza, around here all I can get is Pizza Hut, Papa John's, and Domino's, and that shit needs all the help to not suck that it can get.

Dominos got a bit better since the entire "improve our recipe" thing.Pizza Hut around where I live is shit-tacular. Papa John's is somewhere in the middle. There's plenty of local chains around here, but < this > is where I go most of the time. They've got a place within walking distance, plus it's got a full bar. Can order delivery until 3am. (TheCatt @ May 28 2013,17:57) QUOTE Pizza-ist Nah, I order from all three from time to time. I've got some Domino's in the fridge right now. It's edible. But it's still not very good pizza, relatively speaking. I wish I could find somewhere down here that actually understood the concept of deep dish pizza. Here's a hint: it doesn't mean a three-inch thick crust with a thin layer of cheese and meat on top. Posted by Leisher on May 28 2013,18:11
I don't find any pizza joint to be particularly awesome. Edible, yes. Great pizza? No.I make my own, and it's awesome. Posted by GORDON on May 28 2013,18:46

The best I've made from scratch I'd give a B or B+. It was grilled, and it was pretty awesome.
Posted by TPRJones on May 29 2013,18:43
Well, that was unexpected. Thank you!

Well, enjoy them, hopefully it breaks your deep dish pizza drought.

I would know your secrets, because I try to make pizza too and so far I give my own a C+. I can do my own crust, but I'm not big on it. It's a lot of time for little reward since I make thin crust pizzas. (Haven't tried a deep dish yet.) There are different folks in the world of pizzas. Some think the crust makes a pizza. I am not that type of person. For me, it's about the sauce and the toppings. Yes, I make my own sauce, and I only use fresh toppings. Posted by TheCatt on May 30 2013,06:32
For me, the crust matters a lot. That being said, it's a lot of work. Our local Harris Teeter's actually have pretty good pizza crust, especially if you grill it. So to me, it's more the how than the what. Grilled with olive oil -> Awesome.Sauce also means a lot to me, but making my own is a ton of work, and < Dei Fratelli > sauce is already pretty awesome. Posted by Leisher on May 30 2013,06:41
I have never encountered a crust that was worth going nuts over. However, I've had some shitty crusts that ruin a pizza. My belief is that your crust should be good enough to hold your toppings, while not taking away from them by being doughy, bad tasting, etc. On my pizza, there's only about a quarter of an inch of crust showing anyway. Posted by Malcolm on May 30 2013,07:26
Crust counts majorly. Just thin crust, Leish? Damn. That's like only drinking light beer.
Posted by TheCatt on May 30 2013,07:41
There's a lot to be said for thin crust, whether you mean Italian/cracker style, or NY doughier style.

QUOTE Crust counts majorly. Just thin crust, Leish? Damn. That's like only drinking light beer. If I want bread, I'll make bread. If I want a sandwich, I'll make a sandwich. I want a pizza. To me that equals: sauce, cheese, assorted toppings and spices, and the that holds it all. Now I do dig deep dish, which is a lot more bread, and I like some thick crust, but imho, I've found that people who rely too much on their crust fail in their sauce and toppings. In fact, some thin crust pizzas irritate me, like the "gourmet" bullshit you see where there throw a massive sheet of thin crust into an oven with a light scattering of olive oil and toppings. Fuck that. That's not pizza. That's flavored bread. Posted by Malcolm on May 30 2013,08:24
The amount of oil you put into the dough greatly affects the texture and strength of the finished product, which affects the toppings you could load onto the pizza before it gives way. In addition, the type of crust affects the gluten content. Then there's < this weirdness >, which has markedly different crust than anyone else.

As I've said, I can make crust, but I think it's a lot of effort for little payoff. Granted when you do something overboard like your link, it provides "more", but that ALWAYS comes with a cost. Usually it's at the expense of the rest of the pizza. I've found a nice premade, refrigerated crust from a local Italian grocery store that works fine for my needs. It's not too heavy, but can hold my toppings and sauce, which is key since I am known to go heavy on sauce and toppings. Posted by GORDON on May 30 2013,09:07
I prefer thin crust.

It is too hot to bake, and the banana peppers in my garden are really coming in, so pizza is one way to eat them. Started with a Mama Mary's stone fired crust.... very cheap at Wal Mart. Sauced it and put the toppings on, and put it on a grill at 350-400 degrees, directly on the grid/lines/whatever it is called. Cooking surface. No pizza stone or pan between crust and fire. 10 minutes, cheese was properly melted, pulled it. Probably the best homemade pizza I have ever eaten. I give it a B+. Now I need to try it with home-made dough. Posted by Leisher on Jul. 17 2013,06:11
