"Liberal" reporter who took down Nixon in the 80's said something critical of the Obama administration, and got threatened for it by the White House.

You would think other reporters would come to the defense of the free press SPEAKING TO POWER, but no.  This is Obama he was talking about, and any mention of his name without a "Peace Be Unto Him" is journalistic blaspheme punishable by stoning, no matter how famous a reporter you are.

There is just one thing I wish I could hear, just once, from the media: how the White House's tone with a reporter has a CHILLING EFFECT ON THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, like how we heard 3 times a day, every day, during the Bush administration.

But, then, I've often been a dreamer.

QUOTE
A White House official said that “no threat was intended” by Mr Sperling’s email to Woodward. “The note suggested that Mr Woodward would regret the observation he made regarding the sequester because that observation was inaccurate, nothing more,” said the official.

That sort of thing is typically said by pinstripe-suited Sicilians who hang in questionable social circles.

They meant "you will regret that" in a constructive-criticism way.  Got it.
