To gun rights advocates, the city provides stark evidence that even some of the toughest restrictions fail to make places safer. “The gun laws in Chicago only restrict the law-abiding citizens and they’ve essentially made the citizens prey,” said Richard A. Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association.

To gun control proponents, the struggles here underscore the opposite — a need for strict, uniform national gun laws to eliminate the current patchwork of state and local rules that allow guns to flow into this city from outside.

Then, as always, it's someone else's fault:

“Chicago is not an island,” said David Spielfogel, senior adviser to Mr. Emanuel. “We’re only as strong as the weakest gun law in surrounding states.”

"Yeah, our shit's together.  It's everyone else that's fucked up.  The rest of the world needs to adjust to us."

Someone want to explain to David Spielfogel that the United States isn't an island?

What's that thing Ron White said?

"We should sell off Florida to the Israelis because their current land has some neighbour issues, and it's just not working ou for them.  With the money we make from that, we can get to buying Mexico, then flip it and keep buying our way down the South American continent.  Every time we do that, the fence we need to build across the U.S. border gets a little bit shorter."

I'm also pretty sure that murder is universally outlawed in the majority of cases, but danged if it doesn't seem to happen on a daily basis.

< Chicago's answer to stopping gun violence >?  More guns.
QUOTE
Two days after a teen who performed at President Obama's inauguration weekend was gunned down, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is set to yank 200 cops from desk jobs and make them fight crime on the streets.

This report is obviously bullshit.  There aren't any guns in Chicago, the law keeps them out.  Don't know how this chick got shot.  I'm also sure these 200 reserve troops are eminently qualified to walk the beat, which is probably why they were behind desks in the first place.

< Chicago legal system lets murderer walk out >.
QUOTE
According to Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, whose office launched an investigation into Robbins' release, the mistake "appears to be a clerical error."

"In no way are we ducking responsibility," Dart said Friday. "We're going to fix this."

Dart said the office's outdated paper system may be to blame.

No, that's not me pasting paragraphs and statements together, although it's probably the original author doing it.
