< On cigarette boxes. >I used to really think Australia was pretty cool, but the more I learn about their politics down under, the more I think it'd be a nice place to visit, but never live. Not that I think everyone should be puffing up, but this is more about government shitting on business, and their citizens' personal freedom. Does anyone doubt that soon drinking and the food we eat will be next on the "you must change your habits for the greater good" train? Posted by TheCatt on Aug. 15 2012,11:57
I always thought the Aussie image was rugged, libertarian, etc... but it seems like a barren England.

They've been getting bad with the "big brother" shit for at least 10 years.

(TheCatt @ Aug. 15 2012,13:57) QUOTE I always thought the Aussie image was rugged, libertarian, etc... but it seems like a barren England. Never got that vibe from them. In terms of personality of gov't, Australia doesn't have quite as rigid a stick up its as the UK, but it's damn close. You'd think a place founded by convicts would be more laid back, particularly compared to the dudes that convicted them. Posted by TheCatt on Aug. 15 2012,16:43
The aussies I've met have always been rugged, outdoorsy people who could kick my ass... and that's the women. So I didn't expect Big Mother from their govt. Im pretty sure I Come From a Land Down Under painted a different picture too. And the animal guy. And outback, no rules or whatever. I've come to the conclusion I know very little aout actual australia. Posted by GORDON on Aug. 15 2012,16:44
They let their women vote, so of course they are going to shit.

Come to think of it, I guess the face of Australia I've seen the most over the past few years is

Can't wait until I go to buy a Three Musketeers bar and it has a picture of Honey Boo Boo's mom on it warning me about weight gain. Or when I buy a bottle of Jack Daniels and the label is a picture of the aftermath of a car crash caused by a drunk driver. Posted by Malcolm on Dec. 06 2012,11:32
I want to put pictures of burning peasants on the front of every Bible.

I can't believe what they spread on their toast. < Vegimitie? > Jesus.
Posted by TPRJones on Dec. 06 2012,12:07
I can. Nasty as it is, Vegemite is essentially very very thick beer. That fits the Australian stereotype perfectly, IMO.

< Or we'll just hold your new products up in regulatory hell forever >.QUOTE Part of the delay problem is that the tobacco industry is still learning how to deal with being regulated. Yeah, because I remember it was just last week they were allowed to advertise on TV. Posted by Malcolm on Feb. 17 2015,12:00
< Only if > they apply the same logic to alcohol products.
