< Article. >Yeah, the writer of this particular story (not the article) has missed the point of the Superman character completely. Ma and Pa Kent are what made Superman, Superman. It was their parenting and guidance that made him into the man he is, and why he loves the U.S. so much. This has been explored countless fucking times. For him to denounce his American citizenship would be a spit in the face of his parents, and to declare Earth as important as any other planet would shit upon his own fucking belief that Earth is his adopted home world. I'm not even getting into the obviously liberal utopian wet dream that this story tries to push onto an unsuspecting public. I'm simply pointing out just how badly it's written base don the character's own history. I think this writer is going to be moving onto other stories soon: -His issue of Spider-Man shows Pete taking a day off because sometimes great responsibility can be blown off. Let someone else handle it!!! -In Wolverine, Logan joins a peace protest, condemns alcohol, and promises to no longer examine his past. -The Hulk no longer wants to be left alone. He now wants to join others as much as possible, preferably for hand holding and singing. Later, when the right wing fascists show up, he's going to debate them instead of smashing. You want to push your own political beliefs on people? Create your own character and write him however you want. But leave existing characters alone. You do more to damage your "cause" by trying to force it on people. Posted by TheCatt on Apr. 29 2011,14:47
Honestly, I interpreted it as anti-Obama conservatism. Do you think Bush would have criticized Superman for standing against the Iranian monarchy?I read the synopsis in the article before the rest of your post. I have no clue who the guy is other than what you've said. So I probably misread it. Posted by GORDON on Apr. 29 2011,15:07
The author sounds like a shitty superhero writer. However, Superman never moved to Canada on Bush's watch. Posted by Malcolm on Apr. 29 2011,15:39
A couple things...A) It's a given that fictional characters that are permanent fixtures get fucked with as different groups of writers play with them. I can think of no better example than Batman. B) The D.C. multiverse has been rebooted, retconned, rewritten, retrofitted, and resurrected so many times that any insanity can be accounted for. For all anyone really knows, it's part of a storyline where Supes is infected by a cosmic parasite that turns him tyrannical or evil. Such shit has happened before and can be undone at any point in the future. |
