< Heat's "Big Three" negotiating their contracts. >The interesting part there is that they're doing it without the team being involved. They are sitting down and plotting out the terms of their contracts without anyone from the team negotiating with them... This is not good. This is the inmates running the asylum. Word on the street is that executives were mad when these three first pulled their little stunt. This goes well beyond that. If the players can now dictate who will be playing where, and now, the terms of their contracts, it basically destroys the game and the league. Teams in states without state taxes instantly have a massive advantage. As do big market teams. I don't think a handful of superstars are going to be clamoring to team up in Milwaukee. I expect the league and its owners are already discussing what they can do to end this trend. Posted by Malcolm on Jun. 30 2014,09:10

You heard it here first, LeBron is coming back to Cleveland.... BOOK IT!
Posted by Leisher on Jul. 07 2014,07:45
Actually, I heard it elsewhere first. Chris Broussard and some guy named "QTip" both tweeted it over the weekend.![]() What I don't understand is why you'd want to jinx it by publicly declaring it? To me, that's bad juju. James has a meeting with Riley this week, and hasn't actually met with anyone from the Cavs. Plus, the Cavs have to dump Jack and his $6 million contract first. I've heard some folks claiming Gilbert's letter is still a big issue, but I think that's horseshit. That letter showed Gilbert cared, and is passionate about the team. Someone like LeBron is going to be able to recognize that this far away from the "decision". Posted by Stranger on Jul. 07 2014,07:54
Dan Gilbert's personal jet was suspiciously in Miami yesterday.. hmmm..Also, Brian Windhorst reported that the letter that Dan wrote was able to be seen on the Cavs websight since he wrote it. Well today, it was taken off.... hmmm tomarrow is the 4 year anniversary of the infamous decision. Maybe Lebron says he's bringing his talents to the shores of Lake Erie... hmmm Pat Riley basically called Lebron a pussy if he walks out now. That definetly rubbed Lebron the wrong way. And i don't care what anyone says, Lebron deserves to be the highest paid player on the team. Wade and Bosh are glue factory, pay the man. Reports have a three way trade with the Nets and some other team that Jack will be a salary dump trade... hmmm And of course the Chris Broussard thing carries some weight.. that and even loud mouth Stephen A. Smith is saying don't count Cleveland out. Posted by Stranger on Jul. 07 2014,08:03

Smith is saying don't count Cleveland out. Temper your expectations. That's all smoke. You have a habit of always assuming the absolutely best case scenario. Just trying to help you avoid heartbreak if he goes back to Miami, or elsewhere. That being said, I'm rooting for LBJ to go back to the Cavs. Why? -Because I want the #1 player in the league to show young kids coming up that he has some integrity. -I want to believe that winning for your home (close enough) is still important to these overpaid, spoiled athletes. -I want to think that a guy of LBJ's talent has access to people smart enough to tell him this is the right move. -I want Cleveland to get a winner, and I'd prefer it not be the Browns. Finally, the drama that would come from all this is mind boggling. -LBJ to the Cavs and the likely vets who would follow him. (Ray Allen is at the top of that list.) -Bosh would likely leave and go to the Rockets. -Bosh (unless the Rockets pay him), Wade, and Haslim all took lower pay to get James back. That's a BIG deal that nobody is talking about. Did they do it based on him saying he's coming back? Did they do it as a tactic to bait him into staying? It could be a really expensive mistake. Each is going to lose millions even if LBJ stays. -All those vets the Heat have waiting would probably retire or sign elsewhere. -The Heat would be decimated. Haven't they traded away a lot of future picks trying to keep this team together? They would go from first to worst in the Eastern Conference overnight, and would be stuck in a slow rebuild without draft picks. Posted by Leisher on Jul. 07 2014,12:13
The Heat finally got a free agent in McRoberts, but Houston is now offering Bosh a max contract. Broussard says he's seriously considering it< based on a conversation with James this weekend >.

Signing Danny Granger seems like a desperation move. I think the Heat know they're on the verge of losing everything. It still wouldn't shock me to see them all back with Miami, but at this point, they might be giving up too much to stay. How do you turn down $90 million if you're Bosh, when the Heat want to pay you 50-60 million, and James only wants a 1-2 year deal? Posted by Leisher on Jul. 07 2014,15:08
You know what really annoys me? The talking heads who say Miami is a better fit for LeBron. They claim Miami's roster is just built for a championship run over the Cavs. Really? What's that based on? The Heat have 4 players under contract: a rookie who has never played in the NBA, an "ok" free agent from a bad team with no playoff experience, a washed up free agent with minimal playoff experience, and a bench player. Nobody knows who else the Heat will sign because everyone else that's worth a damn is signing elsewhere. How the fuck can you say Miami's roster is a better fit for LeBron when they don't have a roster!? Posted by Stranger on Jul. 08 2014,08:11
So understandably so, Cleveland radio is abuzz with nothing but Lebron talk. All sorts of people are calling in and claiming they got inside information from all various sources, mothers hairdressers, school board people, real estate agents etc.. Its really facinating and quite hilarious to listen too.But one well known radio host said that he talked to a Cavs player who claimed that Lebron told him to "Be ready and be prepared". Now maybe he's just telling this bum that he's gonna dog Cleveland again and shove it up our asses again, but i kinda doubt that. If this bit of info is true then i would believe Lebron might be coming back home. And besides, it would be the biggest story. Him going back to Miami or anywhere else for that matter doesn't have the HUGE epic story like him going back to Cleveland, and lets be honest thats what he really wants. Well, that and rings, and Cleveland has the roster to build around him. If he comes back there will be 4 #1 overall picks on one roster. The last team to have that was the Lakers of the 80's and they were pretty good. Oh and one more little bit of tasty info... In Vegas the Cavs went from 40-1 to 10-1 to win the Championship, do you think they might know something?... Posted by Leisher on Jul. 08 2014,08:20
QUOTE Oh and one more little bit of tasty info... In Vegas the Cavs went from 40-1 to 10-1 to win the Championship, do you think they might know something?... Yes, they know that a lot of folks put money on the Cavs to win the title based on all the rumors about LeBron coming home, so they lowered the odds. Nothing more. (Seriously, google it. That's what happened. It was a front page story on espn.com for most of the night last night.) I'm rooting for you guys in the LeBron sweepstakes, and you might find out today. There is a rumor that he's meeting with Riley today in Vegas (this was on Sportscenter last night). The biggest indicator you should watch right now other than an announcement from LeBron is the whole Bosh/Houston situation. They're offering him more money for fewer years, and everyone is saying it's a perfect fit for him. Plus, there's the whole "he had a phone call with LeBron and based on that he's looking at his options thing". If Bosh goes, Cleveland getting LeBron back is almost assured. Per ESPN Cleveland's Tony Rizzo.. The Cavs have a trade offer on the table with the T-wolves for Kevin Love in exchange for Andrew Wiggins. This is a great deal for both teams. In different news, fuck the MSM trying to pretend Miami fans are acting better than Cleveland fans did when LeBron left. Miami fans are notoriously shitty. So everybody knows that Lebron only signed a 2 year deal with an option to opt out after a year. Sure, sounds like he's leaving but there is more to it. The new collective barganing agreement is up in two years and the salary cap will go up and Lebron would be in line to earn the new max contract at that time and that would be millions of more dollars. I'm sure you have all heard of that too, but there is even more to it than that..As of right now players are not allowed to be owners of NBA franchises. The scuttlebutt around town is that in the next collective bargaining agreement that will be on the table. i fully expect Lebron to be a part owner of the Cavaliers in a few years. There is no doubt that Lebron wants to be an owner, just look at Jordan and Magic, both NBA owners and i'm sure Lebron sees himself on the same level as them. And what better way to make sure to keep a superstar in town than giving them a piece of the pie. Posted by Leisher on Jul. 16 2014,07:13
Yeah, I heard about him wanting to be an owner before he even made his decision. Also, knew about the new salary cap coming, and why he was signing a short term deal. He was very clear to everyone that this is his last stop despite the 2 year contract. As for players who become owners, is Magic an owner? I thought he just had interest in the Clippers. Jordan is as bad an owner as he was a great basketball player. He's terrible. By all accounts he does nothing and rarely shows up. I think players wanting to be owners is fine. Save up your money, and buy a stake in a franchise. However, handing them part ownership just because they happen to play there, that's a bit shakier. Look, I'm all for employee owned. My company is employee owned and we have profit sharing. People around here actually think about dollars and cents because they'll see that money returned to them in the long run. In pro sports, you're talking about a property/brand that a billionaire has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to purchase. Whose most public employees are paid millions to play a game. Does he/she also need to hand over the keys to the empire? Really? What is that player/owner going to bring to the table? Cash flow? Wise personnel decisions? Will they coach the team? Look, I'm all for employee owned as my company is employee owned and we have profit sharing. However, I'm not making millions, nor do I believe that just because they hired me here it makes me qualified to make decisions for the company's overall direction. I think if NBA players want ownership, then they should ask for lowered salaries in return. They can get their pay up higher via profit sharing. Make their team more successful, meaning more ticket sales, meaning a bigger pay check. Get better on the court and get more ad deals, and a bigger pay check because you're putting more butts in seats. I just don't see why owners should have to sacrifice ownership. What are they getting out of it? Posted by Stranger on Jul. 16 2014,07:36
I'm sure that this only applies to one man in the NBA right now. I have heard that the Cavs are already worth $250 Million more the day Lebron committed to them. Also the city commissioner was on the radio yesterday and he said the Cleveland's economy should see about a $500 million dollar increase because of him. Oh yeah, Dan Gilbert just happens to own the Horseshoe casino located right smack dab next to the Q arena, you think that he will see some of that cash flow there too?So Lebron is a different kind of athlete, he is literally world wide. Giving up a percentage of your franchise to ensure many years of inflated income even after he retires i'm sure is worth the investment. I don't see the Knicks giving up anything for Carmelo, guy can't even win a playoff game. Maybe Keving Durant in his next contract, he sure has changed the fortunes of OKC, but he may have to win championships to get an ownership stake. This is truely only for the biggest of the biggest stars, the ones that transend the sport and bring in money in other ways than just by winning. And this is all just speculation at this point, of course. Posted by Malcolm on Jul. 16 2014,08:32

QUOTE Levenson writes in a statement that the racially offensive comments came as he pondered ways to bridge Atlanta's racial sports divide and increase fan attendance at Hawks' games. "In trying to address those issues, I wrote an e-mail two years ago that was inappropriate and offensive," he said. "I trivialized our fans by making clichéd assumptions about their interests (i.e. hip hop vs. country, white vs. black cheerleaders, etc.) and by stereotyping their perceptions of one another (i.e. that white fans might be afraid of our black fans). By focusing on race, I also sent the unintentional and hurtful message that our white fans are more valuable than our black fans." "If you're angry about what I wrote, you should be," Levenson continued in the statement. "I'm angry at myself, too. It was inflammatory nonsense. We all may have subtle biases and preconceptions when it comes to race, but my role as a leader is to challenge them, not to validate or accommodate those who might hold them." That's racist? Really? REALLY? So, by that logic, Tampax is sexist because all of their ads are clearly for women. We're honestly at a point where we have to pretend that we can't use demographics to advertise? I should have sued those racists at Disney during the year all of their ads featured black people whom they were trying to get to come to the park. This shit is insanity. Hutchins said he needed to hear that request from Koonin, and because Koonin didn't personally cancel the meeting, the group of 12 civil rights leaders showed up as planned. When they entered Philips Arena and were told there would be no meeting, Hutchins and the other leaders said they were insulted. In one of Bill Simmons' recent columns a reader emailed him a genius idea to keep teams from tanking:< From Simmons' Week 13 column. > QUOTE Saying the NFL cares about player safety is like saying the 2014-15 Sixers care about their fans. That reminds me — two readers took last week’s “Should the Sixers be relegated?” conversation even further:
Q: What about combining NBA relegation with wrestling’s “loser leaves town” concept? 30 spots every season for 31 franchises. Worst team “leaves town” (or in the case, disappears for a year), to be replaced by Seattle’s expansion team. The next season, 2015’s worst team returns and takes the spot of 2016’s worst team. (Obviously, this works for other sports- hello, L.A. Raiders!) Can you imagine the difference in the environment at the end of the year- when, instead of playing in dead arenas, teams would play in front of a bunch of frenzied fans worried about losing their franchise? —John, Santiago, Chile Q: Create a 31st “expansion” team (Seattle anyone?) that serves as the first franchise to sit out Year One. The worst team from Year One’s season then sits out Year Two — they can’t sell tickets, but break even through revenue sharing. I’m still working on what the sitting-out players would do for the year. —Younger, Houston BS: Yeah, that’s a problem. You can’t force 15 NBA players to sit out a season. But we actually have this rule in my West Coast fantasy football league — 11 franchises, 10 spots, the previous year’s winner gets to “vote out” one team before every draft. It’s always exciting, but it peaked in 2012 when our crazy friend Brad nearly snapped after getting voted out. Here, look: There's a video here, but if you want to see it, go to the column itself. Linked above. I don’t know how you capture that magic for a professional sports league, but here’s one possible way: We make Seattle a franchise-in-waiting. If any other franchise loses 70 games AND gets outscored by 15 points per game, Seattle immediately assumes control of that team. Like, for good. That roster become the Seattle SuperSonics for the following season; meanwhile, Philly becomes the franchise-in-waiting and can’t get another team until someone loses 70 games AND gets outscored by 15 points per game. Ask yourself this: If this rule were in place … would any NBA franchise even think about tanking a season as egregiously as the Sixers are throwing away the 2014-15 season? No way. Not a chance. I am not a huge NBA fan as you all know. That being said, I've been following the Cavs this year due to the Lebron thing and at the behest of my brother-in-law. I think the owner needs to have a meeting with Irving, James, and Love and ask them what they need to win. He needs to tell them to be as honest as possible with him and each other. If they're not the right fit, he could make a big trade and get them where they want to be and bring in other pieces. End of the day, they need to fire their coach. Not that it's his fault for what's happening, but I think he's lost the team. They need a coach with a bigger personality to handle this group. That's the secret to how the Heat won with their "big three". No not Spolstra, but they had Riley backing him. Those three listened to Riley. The Cavs need a Riley or a Phil Jackson to get that team united and playing on the same page. Someone to control the egos and get them playing as a team, and not individuals. Posted by Stranger on Jan. 12 2015,08:55
Blatt will be fired, that's a no brainer its just a matter of time now. They hired him before Lebron came back because he was the only coach who would take the job. Had Lebron came back first the Cavs would have had a much higher profile coach in there.
Posted by Leisher on Jan. 12 2015,08:58
Phil would be such a no brainer for that job. It's too bad he took the Knicks GM job or I think he would have happily coached the Cavs.

That was totally dirty pool by Olynyk. The Celtics had nothing to lose and were clearly frustrated with the Cavs having an answer to everything that they threw at them all series long. They resorted to goon tactics and the Cavs got pulled into it. Bringing Perkins off the bench to be an enforcer was fine in my opinion, but when JR Smith threw a backhand later in the game it was too much. He will most likely get suspended for a game or two and he will be needed for a tough series against the Bulls.Hopefully the Bucks can pull out another win to extend the series another few days so Love can heal up and get back in time. It was a very satisfying win yesterday, just watching all the dejected Bulls fans faces was worth it. But I've got a guarded optimism. The Cavs are hurt, Kyrie is only running at about 50% and he is the only other consistent scoring threat for them. The rest of this series is going to be tough and I think they can win it, and even get past either the Hawks or Wizards in the conference finals. But beating the west with only 1.5 of the big 3 is going to be a tall order. Its all on Lebron from here on out, yesterday was a good sign he can shoulder the load. I don't know what the fuck the Cavs were doing in the 4th quarter. All that stupid iso and shots from long range. You have a size advantage! Get inside. They really need to work on passing the ball. This might be weird to say, but Kyrie going out, might actually help their cause. They swept small ball Atlanta without him, and him being in definitely affected JR Smith's production. Should be interesting to see how the chemistry is affected. Also, the NBA should be fucking embarrassed by that game last night. Stephen Curry put his team up using bush league tactics. That whole "fake a shot to get the defender off his feet, and then jump INTO him initiating contact, yet somehow the guy in the air is considered the rule violator" needs to be removed from the game. What an anti-climatic way to end a game in overtime. The equivalent would be an NFL game ending with two phantom pass interference calls on back to back plays until the winning team finally got a TD to go ahead on their third try. Lame shit. Listen, I realize all great athletes have to be somewhat of an asshole. That attitude that they're the best has to fill them completely for them to be successful (although, there have been clear examples that they're not always assholes). However, doing that to a kid who works for you is a whole different level of asshole. That's why I'm hoping there's another part to the story like LeBron was fucking with him and bought him dinner later or something. Posted by TheCatt on Jun. 16 2015,10:17

Sorry Stranger. Hell of a run though despite your 2nd and 3rd best players being lost for the season during the playoffs. Fucking brutal luck. Watching the NBA finals, the one thing it cemented in my head is that the officiating in the NBA is an absolute joke. Simply embarrassing. Watching LeBron get hammered on one end with no whistle, and then Curry initiating contact on the other and get a whistle was ridiculous. The NBA is doing well, but they need to stop worrying about diversity so much with their officials, and instead hire competent ones. Posted by Malcolm on Jun. 19 2015,10:14
