Forum: General Stuff Topic: Not In My Back Yard. started by: GORDON Posted by GORDON on Jul. 15 2009,18:38
So behind and adjacent to my .4 acre there's a couple properties that had a single dilapidated house, and were very neglected by the owner. A couple months ago this house was demolished by the owner because the township was always riding his ass about it. Soon after, I was chatting with my other neighbor who also has property adjacent to those lots, and he was talking about wanting to buy it and pave the entire thing for a parking lot and storage garage. His exact words to me were, "I realize it will be awfully close to our yards and not nice to look at, but hey, it would be a money maker." He was dead wrong; there isn't a need for that in this particular area, but hell... once it is paved and an eyesore, it is paved and is an eyesore.Well not in my back yard, goddamit. So I found the owner and bought it myself and I close on it next week, on my birthday. That's how I deal with NIMBY. I bet my neighbor is gonna be pissed. Posted by TPRJones on Jul. 15 2009,19:17
Maybe you should build a putt-putt golf course on it.

They paved paradise and put in a parking lot. yeah yeah yeah yeahThat was popular about the same time as i got a brand new pair of roller skates you got a brand new key. Ahh the good old days Posted by GORDON on Jul. 15 2009,20:25

Rifle range.

I don't know what that poor old blind man would do with it. Yes your neighbor is going blind. Have you seen some of his picnic tables lately? He makes enough money on the wishing wells, picnic tables and cheating campers that are to stupid to pick up there own firewood.

(thibodeaux @ Jul. 16 2009,07:26) QUOTE Rifle range. Thought has occurred to me. Pretty sure I could put up a 300m KD range. Posted by TPRJones on Jul. 16 2009,11:25
I bet there are intersting ways to combine the two ideas proposed in this thread.

And more.A lot of land. Posted by GORDON on Jul. 26 2009,17:14
Someone cut the meadow today, without my knowledge. The sale isn't final until the 28th. I hope I am not expected to pay for it, since I was going to do it the 28th.

Probably going to be a property tax assessment that would mean a mighty fight, but I do not think the township cuts on sunday. Did Dave do it for you? Posted by GORDON on Jul. 27 2009,05:11
Nope. Dave said he saw someone on an orange garden tractor doing it.
Posted by unkbill on Jul. 27 2009,08:22
Not me, An it wouldn't have been county or township on a garden tractor. They use big shit an get it done quick.

Just got word, the owner had someone mowing the grass once a month. But it doesn't matter, because now the guy wants more money, and the deal appears to be off. Posted by GORDON on Jul. 27 2009,09:52
Have threatened lawsuit. We'll see what happens.

Or better yet make your home income producing and move to wildflower. Or my basement lol
Posted by GORDON on Jul. 27 2009,13:27
They caved, the deal is on. I'm still calling the title company tomorrow to make sure the deed is on the way.
Posted by unkbill on Jul. 28 2009,06:10
Since it appears to be yours. Have you checked out that concrete lid with the hole in it. Believe it was a cistern or opening for the outdoor tiolet in the garage. Hopefully they caved it in when they did the house.

Haven't been able to get to it yet, with all the weeds and other crap.
Posted by GORDON on Jul. 28 2009,16:15
If it is where I remember, it looks like it was broken up and filled in with crap. I spent part of today pulling bricks/blocks that were sticking up out of the dirt so I can build a fire ring and start burning these piles of old tree limbs and shit. But then the fucking rain started.
Posted by unkbill on Jul. 28 2009,16:34
Pulling up brick to make a fire ring. Sounds like some serious man shit. Repeat one more time. This is serious manshit. I am fine. Listen to no others. This is my property. I am John Wayne! Property is so Cool.
Posted by GORDON on Jul. 28 2009,18:40
Going to have to make a pile for you of all the metal and bullshit through the weeds.
Posted by GORDON on Jul. 30 2009,14:16
God damn, that's a lot of grass to mow.

Apparently I received a free gift with my purchase of land in the form of a large, subterranean hornet nest. The guy driving the tractor was amused. "I was wondering when I'd find some yellow jackets." As soon as they calm down I am going to build a nice brush fire over where they are swarming. Posted by GORDON on Aug. 14 2009,09:57
As I said, we found a big hornet nest underground while trying to clear the land, where a building had burned down X years ago.Last night I tossed a fairly big pile of old wood and brush over the hole the hornets were flying in and out of... I actually did this over the course of 2 days because I could only put one thing on a time on the pile, from 15 feet away, because the hornets were all like WTF IS THIS STUFF LANDING ON OUR HOME. Anyway, last night before dusk I lit the pile, and fed brush from the trimmings of other trees for 4 hours to keep it burning and cook the hell out of the ground. I just went out, and there are fucking hornets out there flying in and out of a new hole 1 inch from the furthest ash from the pile. Fucking fuckers. I guess I need to bring in a bunch of dirt and just bury them, I guess. Posted by TPRJones on Aug. 14 2009,10:36
Presumably they can dig, or they wouldn't have any holes at all.You could try pouring a slab over them. Posted by Troy on Aug. 14 2009,10:47
Dynamite.

(GORDON @ Aug. 14 2009,14:31) QUOTE (Troy @ Aug. 14 2009,13:47) QUOTE Dynamite. Oooooo. Hey Unk, where can I get some dynamite around here? For taking out some hornets, I bet you could cobble together someone homemade explosives pretty easily. Posted by WSGrundy on Aug. 14 2009,12:46
While nowhere near as fun as pyromania and explosives I have heard good things about traps.< Don't know anyone who used this exact one but have used traps and are happy. > They are a little slower but they can't replace the killed ones with new ones fast enough and the hive dies off. I poured gas down the whole when it was evening and they were not as active and then lit it on fire. Not sure if it really did anything but was fun. Posted by Malcolm on Aug. 14 2009,12:54
Just napalm the fuckers.
Posted by GORDON on Aug. 14 2009,15:18
