The Good News: Two weeks ago I bought a new ginormous 47" LCD TV. It was awesome. The Bad News: Today my apartment was robbed. Among many other things, I no longer have a new ginormous 47" LCD TV. They trashed my place and everything is torn up. The only good bit is I still have my computer. Too depressed to say more, I'm now going to go sulk while I wait for the locksmith to show up. ![]() Posted by GORDON on Jun. 01 2009,13:54
That's shitty. Renter's insurance?

Yeah, but I only have receipts for a couple of items. I don't know how that works but I can sense I'm probably going to be somewhat screwed. They stole all my DVDs. Even Firefly. Well, almost all: they left Sports Night, Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog, and The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension. Posted by TheCatt on Jun. 01 2009,14:25
Fuck. Sorry to hear that. When my apt burned down 10 years ago (exactly), I didn't have a lot of receipts, just a memory to go on, and got the maximum my insurance allowed, very few questions asked. Posted by TPRJones on Jun. 01 2009,15:08
I hope my agency is just as nice about it. We'll see.Thank god they left the compy. I think maybe it's time I considered doing some sort of backup, just in case. Oh, more good news: they also stole a copy of my car key, with a tag showing the make and model. They know where I live and where I work, so I gots to get that changed. Locksmith is on the way; the parts alone are costing over $400. *sigh* Posted by Leisher on Jun. 01 2009,15:15
Sorry to hear it.I hope whomever is responsible gets face fucked by an elephant. Posted by Malcolm on Jun. 01 2009,15:35
You can make some rather effective anti-personnel booby traps for under $50, of both the lethal & boring varieties. You live in Texas. It has to be legal there.

Insurance: like the other peeps said, even when I asked my house insurance company if I needed to provide pics of hundreds (thousand?) of DVDs, computer games, several PCs, etc... since having that many is somewhat out of the ordinary... they said they didn't care about proof, just make the claim. Also - seconding the "perps get face fucked by elephant" sentiment. Any Katrina rats still in Houston? Posted by TPRJones on Jun. 01 2009,17:58
Well, they didn't take my sword, so if they come back while I'm here I'll eviscerate 'em. I'm pretty sure that's legal in Texas, as long as I immediately call the authorities.I'll post the whole chain of events tomorrow. It's been an odd day. Posted by Vince on Jun. 01 2009,19:58
Sorry to hear about that. Watch Buckaroo Bonzai. That'll help ease your suffering.Perfect Tommy always makes me warm and tingly inside. Posted by TPRJones on Jun. 02 2009,03:20

Oh, right. Good point. ![]() Posted by TPRJones on Jun. 02 2009,12:23
Because I buy so much crap online, I've so far dug up over $3600 in receipts. There's another $1200 of stuff I have no receipts for, but we'll see how nice they are.

Screw that.... claim the max, and only provide receipts if requested.
