Yes, and I really, really, really hope that the individuals win this thing.I think this topic has been a recurring them for years. I remember my picture of Gordon's highway when he came out completely against eminent domain. Posted by thibodeaux on Feb. 24 2005,06:50
Highways are one thing. What's happening now is that property is getting siezed so that private developers can build businesses. Now, one may argue that this is the natural result of giving government the power of imminent domain, but I do think that it's possible to draw a line SOMEWHERE. < Hey Thib... >As for the rest of the issue... I'm in agreement with Thib; railways, roads, etc are fine; private development crap is not. Posted by TheCatt on Feb. 24 2005,07:08

Oh yeah... I didn't remember "gordon's highway" until I saw the pic.I read somebody last night who wrote, "Nothing you own is yours... you're just using it until the government takes it away." Posted by DoctorChaos on Feb. 24 2005,11:03

I never knew the result of the Kelo decision was that the private properties were seized and destroyed... and then the plans of the private business fell through and those plots sit empty.< http://www.foxnews.com/us....in-case > QUOTE But five years ago the United States Supreme Court ruled that communities could use the power of eminent domain to help private interests, if the result was for the public good. The case centered on New London, Connecticut, where a neighborhood was razed to make way for a private development that never came.
The main plaintiff was resident Susette Kelo, whose little pink house was move to another part of town and now stands as a symbol of regular citizens fighting the government's use of eminent domain. The blocks that were torn down remain largely empty to this day, save for the overgrown weeds and wild cats that roam the desolate area. The city's plans fell through. "In the wake of Kelo, we have learned about this abuse of power," notes Christina Walsh of the Institute for Justice in Washington, D.C., which has advised the Wards.
